June 21, 1937
The Board of Commissioners met in special session June 21st. with the
following members present: Geo.T.Noel, J.S.Barker, A.A.Cameron, and L.R.Byrd.
Chairman J.B.Ennis being absent on account of sickness.
The following business was transacted:
TO THE HONORABLE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF HARNETT COUNTY:
The Atlantic Coast Line Railroad Company respectfully petitions you as follows:
1. That this petitioner has agreed to sell to the United States the :following
described lot inthe town of Dunn, N.C. for the purpose of erecting .a Post Office:
Bounded on the North by Broad Street; on the East by the right -.of -way of A.C.L.
Railroad' on the south by the line of..A.C.L.Railroad eompany;_and.on the West by
Lueknow btreet, being a lot fronting..on Broad Street 100 feet, and on.Lucknow
-- Square 180 feet.
2. That your petitioner does by this petition assume the payment of such,taxes
as shall be levied .against,the. said lot for the..year.1937, in favor of Harnett
County.
3. That your petitioner desires amdOrder of this Board to the' effect that the
County of -Harnett will hold this petitioner responsible for said taxes so levied
for the year 1937, and will release the United States from the payment of any
taxes levied for the year 1937 on the above described lot.

ORDER; It is ordered by.the Board of Commissioners of Harnett County that
the loot described in the above petition be released from taxation for the year
1937; that the County of Harnett hold the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad Company
responsible for the payment of such taxes as shall be levied against said lot for
the year 1937.

The Board of Commissioners, sitting as The County Board of Equalization and
Review, met at the Courthouse at 9:00 O'clock A.M., June 21, 1937, at the
expiration of the recess, and recessed from day to day to be reconvened upon call
of the Chairman.

June 26, 1937
The Board of Commissioners met upon call of the Chairman J.B.Ennis Saturday
June 26th. with Chairman J.B.Ennis and Commissioners J.S.Barker, Geo.T.Noel,
Lonnie R.Byrd and A.A.Cameron present. H.C.Strickland, County Attorney, was
present also.
The matter of the nomination or confirmation of appointment of a County Agent
for the year 1937 -1938 came up for discussion, and after hearing several citizens
express their sentiments, a motion was made that the appropriation for the, County
Agent's work carry with it the nomination of Mr. C.R.Ammons as County Agent for
the term 1937 -1938 to succeed Mr. J.O.Anthony`in said position, and that Dean
I.O.Schaub of the Agricultural Extension Department be asked to approve and
confirm the appointment of Mr. Ammons.
Those voting for said motion were Commissioners Noel, Barker, Byrd, Cameron
and Chairman Ennis.
• The Budget for the County Health Work was tentatively approved for $12,420.00.
The source of funds -to be paid by Harnett County being 16,930.00.
It is ordered that T.C.Eason be relieved of vaccination fee for one dog for
the years 1935 and 1936.
It is ordered that_the.County Officers be allowed. Saturday, July 3rd. 1937
for a holiday, since July.4th. falls on Sunday.
It is ordered that D.B.Hodges, Duke - Township,, be granted free peddlers
license for the year 1937.

It is ordered by unanimous vote that a telephone booth be installed in the
Courthouse under arrangement to be made by Commissioner Noel and the Purchasing
Agent with the Telephone Company to install same in the hall of Courthouse and
the sum of $10.00 be paid for same.
A statement from L.M.Chaffin, Clerk of Superior Court, covering Clerk's coat
for tax suits in the amount of $8,734.78 for a period of ten years preceding and
including November 30, 1934, was received and the same was referred to the County
Attorney and I.N.Williams, for audit and recommendation to the Board with
instructions to invite Mr. Chaffin, the Clerk, to come before the Board fot the
purpose of explaining his statement.
There being no further business, the Board adjourned to convene at the call
of the Chairman.
