The Board of County Commissioners of Harnett County met in a call session
Thursday, March 11, 1937 at 10:00 A.M. with J.B.Ennis,..Lonnie R.Byrd,
J.S.Barker and A.A.Cameron present. Also County Attorney H.C.Str-ickland was
present.
The attention of the Board of Commissioners was directed by the County
Attorney to certain legislative bills introduced which, if reported favorably
and enacted,vwould affect county finance and which are to be approved or
disapproved by the Board.
By unaninpw vote of the Board- members it was agreed that the following
numbered bills should be enacted: H.B. 1047, to facilitate assessments of
property; H.B. 1048, to extend the time for tax foreclosures..
By unanimousvote.of the Board, it was determined that the present revenue
of the County will,ot, permit compliance with the following numbered., bills,
and that they should not be enacted: H.B. 1049, to regulate the Harnett
County Board of Commissioners. H.B. 1053, fixing the compensation of certain
county officers. H.B. 1054, providing for salaried deputies.
At the request, of the Auditor and County Attorney, the Board agreed that
H.B. 1050, regulating the Auditor's office and H.B. 1052, affecting the County
Attorney, should not be enacted.
It was ordered that the Auditor and Clerk to the Board notify the Harnett
Representative as to the action of the Board, so that the disapproved bills
will not be reported by the Calendar Committee.
There being no further business, the Board.recessed to convene again Monday,
March 15, 1937, at 1 :30 P.M.

The Board of Commissioners of Harnett County met Monday, March 15, 1937 at
1:30 P.M. following the expiration of the recess taken Friday, March 12th.
with J.B.enn.is, Chairman, and J.S.Barker, Geo.T.Noel, Lonnie R.Byrd, and
A.A.Cameron present. H.C.Strickland, County Attorney, was also present.
The Chairman stated that as it had been indicated by I.R.Williams that an
allowance of $50.00 as his fee for appearing in the case of Worrell Mfg. Co.
-vs- County of Harnett, would be satisfactory, the Board ordered that the
allowance of a like amount be made for the services each of J.R.Young and Neill
McKay Salmon, if such allowance be satisfactory to Messrs. Young and Salmon.
RESOLUTION: Be it resolved that 51 'acres of land in Johnsonville Twosn-
ship, Harnett County, described in a deed to J.W.Smith recorded in Book 243,
page 465, Registry of. Harnett County, be released of County Taxes for the
years 1930, 1931 and 1932 upon payment of sum of $44.61, being two - thirds of
taxes assessed in name of J.W.Smith Estate against 74 acres plus interest and
costs.
Following the report of the committee appointed by the Chairman, the
following resolution relative to certain properties in town of Dunn for
purpose of taxation was adopted:
WHEREAS, f'or more than eight years there have been no legal listing of
the following lots in Averasboro Township: Two lots &n Layton Avenue formerly
owned by A.L.Newberry and W.McK.Pearsalli which lots were bid off by G.F.Pope,
L.A.Tart and Arthur F.Pope at a sale made -by J.C.Ciifford. and C.J.Smith.
That lot on W.Pope Street formerly owned by Dunn Development Company which lot
was bid off, also by the said E.F.Pope, L.A.Tart and Arthur F.Pope.
IT IS THEREFORE, considered and ordered that the Auditor of Harnett County
list for taxation for the immediate year 1936 and the four preceeding years
that lot situated in Averasboro Township, Harnett County, fronting on S.Layton
Avenue, on East edge-of said Street one hundred and fifty feet, and on the
Northern edge of Canary Street one hundred and forty feet, in the name of
D.F.Pope, L.A.Tart and Arthur F.Pope, at the sum of $500.00.
It is therefore considered and ordered that the Auditor of Harnett County
list for taxation for the year 1936 and the four years preceeding that lot
situated on the Western edge of South 'Layton AVenue, fronting on said avenue
150 feet, and on the southern edge of Canary Street one hundred and forty feet,
r.at. tho sum of $400.00.
It is therefore considered and adjudged that the Auditor of Harnett County
list for taxation for the year 1936 and the preceeding four years that lot
formerly owned by Dunn Development Company fronting on, the Northern edge of
W.Pope =Street 140 feet and on the Western edge of South Ellis Avenue 150 feet,
at the sum of *250.00

It is ordered that the Auditor compute the taxes on the above lots
immediately.

It is ordered that K.H.Norris be allowed $7.00 per month until May 1st.
covering the months of March and April, 1937, to be handled and approved by the
County Welfare Officer.
The Supervisor of Taxation submitted names of the following list takers and

with the quadrennial assessment for 1937, and the same were approved by the Board.
