The Board of County Commissioners met September 7, 1936 with Chairman
J.B.Ennis; E.L.Cooke; J.S.Barker; Geo.T.Noel; A.A.Cameron, also I.R.Williams,
County Attorney, present.
It is ordered that the following beer licenses be granted:
J.B.Hendley, Lillington, N.C.; L.R.Williams, Averasboro Township; and R.A.Bass,
Averasboro Township.
It is ordered that $10.00 be appropriated to Miss Lillie Davis for
M.V.Lanier, of Buckhorn Township.
It is ordered that the following committee be appointed to investigate
the valuation of house of L.C.Upchurch, in Neills Creek Township: J.B.Ennis, and
J.S.McLean.
It is ordered that 36500.00 be transferred from Special Emergency Relief
Fund to General County Fund to take care of expenditures for relief, agricultural
building, eto.
It is ordered that the lot in Averasboro Township, listed by R.W.Kinlaw
and located on East Broad Street be reduced to the value of 3400.00 for the years
1934, 1935 and 1936. It is now valued at 31100.00 leas 25%. The Board having
found as a fact that no valuation had been made of this lot after the Town of
Dunn had appropriated a part of the lot for a street.
The following committee was appointed to confer with the State W.P.A.
officers in regard to completion. of Agricultural Building, with authority to allow
3475.00 additional appropriation for materials for completion of grounds:
I.R.Williams, J.S.Barker and J.S.McLean.
It is ordered that the budget for Capital Outlay be amended to read
3121,602.83 instead of 3118,877.83.
It is ordered that the County co- operate with the Town of Dunn in
building an Armory if same should be legal.
It is ordered that report of W.D.Harrington, Tax Collector, be accepted
and filed.
Mrs. T.R.Brown, Supt. of County Home, is ordered not to allow any
inmate or prisoner of the County Home, to leave the premises of said County Home
without the permission of the Supt+. of Public Welfare or the Chairman of the.
Board of Commissioners. It is also.ordered that if any inmate leave without
permission, he shall be required to.apply to the Chairman of the Board and.Supt.
of Public Welfare for re- admittance. The County is not to be liable for any act
of persons leaving without permission.

BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners of Harnett County that the
County of Harnett convey all right, title and interest which it has in and to
that 65/100 acre tract of land situated in Averasboro Township, Harnett County,
N.C. adjoining the - lands -Of Martha R.,Jackson, and lying and being on the old
Fayetteville Highway, on which the house of J.C.Barbour was burned, to Geo.A.
Jackson and wife Mallie A.Jackson for the sum of $75.00, and that deed be
executed in the name of Harnett County, by its Chairman, and attested by its
Clerk, and delivered upon the, payment of said sum. This order is made upon
the provision that the 'said _Geo.A.Jackson and wife shall procure from Gallie
Barbour, and husband J.C.Barbour a deed releasing all right, title and interest
which they have in said land.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF HARNETT COUNTY:
1. WHEREAS, the Board of Education of Harnett County has certified to the
Board of Commissioners that the erection of six additonal rooms to the Lafayette
High School is necessary for the maintenance of a six months public school system;
2. WHEREAS, the Board of Education of Harnett County has requested the -Board
of Commissioners of Harnett County to provide the ,2320. of $20,000. (approximately)
for the erection and equipment of said additions;
NOW,THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Board of Commissioners of Harnett
County that said Board cause to be, erected the said additional rooms out of the
first moneys available during the fiscal year Of 1936 -37..
The purpose of this resolution is to certify to the Educational Division
of Vocational Agriculture the willingness and intention of the Board of County
Commissioners of Harnett County to provide necessary rooms and.equipment for the
operation of vocational agriculture at Lafayette High School.
Commissioners present and voting for said resolution: J.B...Ennis, Geo.T.Noel,
Angus A.Cameron, E.L.Cooke, and John S.Barker.
It is ordered that petitions for the following described roads be approved
and forwarded to the- .State-Highway and Public Works Commission: 1. One- half -mile
road beginning at H.A.Wells' residence in Black River Township running to the old
McAllister Road. 2. Begins at E.R.Mabry residence runs into Angier - Benson road
near J.W.Gardner residence in Black River Twp. a distance of 2 miles. 3. To widen
road known aw Old Stage Road in Black River Twp. from Walter Broadwell's home to
Highway No. 21-, distance of about three miles. 4. Four short sections of roads in
East Erwin all intering Highway No. 60, a distance of less than one -half mile.,
5. Three sections of road in Black River Tpw. as follows: (a) onehalf mile near
Neills Creek Church; (b) 12 miles near Joe P.Jones farm; (c) one -half mile begins
at Ed Jones home intering road from Angier to Matthews Mill. -

October 5, 1936
The Board of County Commissioners get, in regular session October 5, 1936
with the following members present: Chairman J.B.Ennis; E.L.Cooke; J.S.Barker; &
Angps'A.Cameron
It is ordered that Dave Godfrey of Barbecue Township be re- admitted to the
County Home on condition that he comply with the
rules of County Home.
It is ordered that Joe Barnes of Neills Creek Townshp be re- admitted to the
County Home on condition that he comply with the rules of the Home.
It` is ordered that $7.50 food orders be allowed J.g.Norris for upkeep
instead° of re- entering County Home. Thisto continue_ for two months.
It is ordered that -the valuation of the lot of W.H.Butler, deceased, in
- Averasboro Township, be reduced by the sum of $675.00 on account of fire which
destroyed the dwelling thereon. This valuation as reduced to apply to year 1936.
It is ordered that the County Farm be rented to a reliable person and .a
committee composed of J.S.MoLean and J.B.Ennis be in charge.
It' is ordered that the 101.27 acres of land in Upper Little River Township
listed in the -name of the Buekhorn Land and Timber Company' be segregated from
their other property and be valued at $1900.00. The County Auditor is ordered
and directed to release said land on the payment of taxes on W.900.00' valuation
together with interest, Land Sale -cost and Court cost.
The report of the Grand Jury was caused to be read and was discussed fully,
and ordered to be recorded.
BE IT RESOLVED that as soon as the money is available from the General County
Fuund, that the purchasing agent recommend such purchases recommended by Grand
Jury as. are most necessary.
The Board authorized Supt. Gentry to sign applications to W.P.A. for
$9,046.08 for additions to LaFayette School, and $4,124.12 for additions to
Buckhorn School. County's part of expense at LaFayette to be $17,711.83, and
at Buckhorn $9,828.97.
It is ordered the report of County Physician, Dr.A.W.Peede, be accepted and
filed. '
It is ordered that report of W.D.Harriax$ ton, Tax Collector, be accepted and
filed.
