The Board of County Commissioners met in regular session with the following
members, present: Chairman T.B,Ennis; J.S.Barker; Geo. T.Noel; A,A.Cameron
and also T.R.William ,_County Attorney.

It is ordered -that the report of W.D.Harrington, Tax Collector, be accepted
and filed.
It is ordered that the report of Dr. A.W.Peede, County Physician, be
accepted and filed.

RESOLUTION:
WHEREAS, the County Attorney, has advised the Board of Commissioners
that, in his opinion, the County is liable under Section 1259 C.S. for
one -half of fees unless the charge on which the person convicted is tried,
be a capital charge or for forgery, perjury or conspiracy; and that the
County is not liable for defendants' witnesses unless ordered by the
Presiding Judge; -
NOW, therefore, it is resolved that the bills of costs in the.following
cases be sent to the Hon. C.C.Cannady for an audit and approved -by him as
the Board is informed -that in neither case was a capital charge.pressed by
the Solicitor: -
#586 - State -vs- 0.M.Pollard and C.F.Dean. Total bill of costs. presented-
$602.54.
#207 - State -vs- W.E.Moore. Total bill of costs presented - $438.26.
It -is ordered that the tract of land described in that Deed of Trust from -
O.P.Rhell and wife C.A.Shell to the Raleigh Banking & Trust Company, Trustee,
recorded in Book 212, at page 599, be released from taxation, upon the
payment of the past due notes given for taxes for years 1931 and prior
years and interest on all of the said notes, and upon the payment of the
pro rata taxes on the said lands provided by law;
And the Auditor is hereby directed and empowered to release said lands
from taxation for year 1935 and prior years upon the payment of the said
notes and interest and pro rata taxes on the said land.
The petition of Mrs. M.M.Driver, Administratrix C.T.A. of the estate of
Nareissa W.Barnes, with reference to theatasltati.on onrtatnrtaiiaantlding
located on Orange Street,, Dunn, N.C., was considered. A committee
composed of Geo. T.Noel, I.R.Williams, and J.S.McLean, was appointed to
investigate the matter.

A letter from Clarence D.Bain, of Dunn, N.C. regarding slot machines in
Harnett County, was received by the Board.
" The above letter having been read, it is ordered that the County Attorney
obtain from the Attorney General &ruling concerning the apparent conflict
in the laws relating to the licensing of slot machines by this Board of
Commissioners, and report to his Board at the next meeting."
WHEREAS, the County of Harnett has applied to the Works Progress Adminis-
tration for funds for the erection of a brick building to be located in
Lillington, N.C. and to be used for agricultural purposes;
AND :AREAS, the sum of $7821.00 has been tentatively granted by the Works
Progress Administration for this project, subject to condition that the
County of Harnett will supply a total sum not to exceed $2500.00 for the
purpose of securing skilled labor or materials or both to be used in the
said building; if needed for the completion of the said agricultural
building;
AND WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners is of the opinion that it will be
to the best interest of the County that the offer made by the Works Progress
Administration be accepted and that the said additional funds of $2500.00,if
needed to complete the said building, be furnished;
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the budget of 1936 -1937 be amended and
that the sum of $2500.00 is hereby appropriated for the purpose of supplying
the necessary funds for the completion of the said building, and the said
Board of Commissioners do hereby assure the Works Progress Administration
that the said sum of $2500.00 if needed till be provided by the County of
Harnett when demanded by the Works Progress Administration, for the
completion of said building. .
