HomeMy WebLinkAbout07011935292 July 1st. 1935, The Board of County G-caumissioners met in regular session with the following members present:,J.B, Ennis, Chairman, Geo. T. Noel, J.S. Barker, A.A. Cameron and E.L. Cooke. I.R.Williams, County Attorney, also present. It is ordered that Lawrence D. Barbour of Grove Township be refueled poll tax for the year 1934 on account of being a disabled World War Veteran. It is ordered that the question of the appointment of a Rural Policement in East Erwin be deferred until next meeting. It is ordered that D.A. McLeod be granted all privileges taxes without charge in accordance with provisions of Chapter 53 PL 1933. Lillington Road It is ordered that petition for road in Barbecue Township from Swann Station -/ to Johnsonville - Lillington Road, known as Gum Swamp Road be approved and forwaxled to State Highway and Public Works Commission for consideration. J.W. Conrad, E.A. Joggers, C.E,Avery, R.D. Wilson and F.H. Bolton appeared before the Board requesting information concerning the purchase of license to operate poll rooms in Harnett County and were asked- to give the proper newspaper notice and file notice with the Barerd.of Commissioners. It is ordered that the County of Harnett convey its interest in 66 acres of McGregor land in Johnsonville Township to W.M. McGregor for the sum of $100.00 and that the Chairman and Clerk be authorized to execute quit -claim deed in the name of the County. It is ordered that the valuation of house and lot of Geo, R. Houston be reduced, the sum of $240.00 for the year 1935 and that he be retuned taxes on that amount for the year 1934. It is ordered that petition for road in Neills Creek Township from Pleasant Union Church to Lillington - Angier Road be approved and forwarded to the State High- way and Public Works, Commission. It is ordered that action on a petition for the appointment of a Oonstable for Grove Township be deferred until a later meeting of the Board and that the Sheriff be requested to see if suitable man can be found. It is ordered that the sum Qf $700.00 be placed in the 1935 -36 budget for the Department of Conservation and Development. It is ordered that report of Geo. L. Cannady, Tax Collector, be accepted and filed. It is ordered that report of Geo. L. Carmody, Collector of Privilege Tax, be accepted and filed, It is ordered that Alexander Waiker be granted peddler's license without charge on account of being a disabled World War Veteran. This privilege to run one year from date. It is ordered that the following amounts as presented by the Board of Educa- tion as its 1935 -36 School Budget be approved: Debt Service Capital Outlay Current Expense $127,509.33 35,135.17 22,011.39 I,t__is hereby_orA eg.,_that a tax of ,1100.00 be and the same is hereby levied under authority contained in sub - section (b ir-Sbction 139, Chapter 371,Publie Laws of 1935, on all persons, firms or corporations soliciting business in Harnett County, for services to be performed outside of sajd County, in so far as the same pertains o -the -Ehi ness °bi``preffe ng and or dry cleaining any a-.rtisles of clothing, reshaping, elea'rri%ng and or reblocking hats, and the Tax Collector is ordered to ascertain the names of and to collect the aforesaid tax from all persons) firms or corporations so soliciting business for the aforesaid services to be performed outside of the County of Harriett/ It is ordered that a tax of $50.00 be and the same is hereby levied on all persons, firms or corporations, under Ohap. 371, authority contained in Section 150 Public Laws of 1935 who solicit business for services tobbeperformed outside of Harnett County, in so far as the said business so far as the saif business so collet ed pertains to the laundrying any clothing and or to the business of supplying or renting any clean linen, and the Tax Collector of Harnett county is ordered to•as- certain the names of and to collect from all persons, firms or corporations so solid, business for the aforesaid services to be performed outside of Harnett County. IWO t- sting 293 It is ordered that the following license taxes, under authority contained in Chapter 371 Public Laws of 1935 by levied by the County of Harnett for the year beginning July 1, 1935 and ending June 30, 1936, and the Tax Collector is authorized to collect the same: This highest taxes allowed under the following sections of Chapter 371, public Laws 1935- 103 - 106,107, 111, 115,116,118,119,120,121, 122i, 124, 125, 129, 130,131, 136, 145, 146, 150, 1511, 152, 153,156, 159, 163. The Tax Collector is not to issue any license for Pool or Billiard Tables until the approval is given by the Board of Commissioners. It is now ordered that the Board adjourn until July 15th. 1935, at which time they will sit as a\Board of Equalization and Review. Clerk to and
