JUNE 3RD 1935.
The Board of County Commissioners met in regular session with the following
members present: George T. Joel, Vice- Chairman, J.S. Barker, 1.L. Gooks, and A.A.
Cameron. I.R.Williams, County Attorney also present. Vice- Chairman Noel called the
meeting to order, after which Mr. Ennis the Chairman appeared and took the chair.
Mr. Chas. Ross appeared before the Board and explained the possibilities of
securing Federal Aid Runde for various projeota in the County. A tentative applica-
tion prepared by the Board of education was approved.
In pint session with the Board of Jdasation the election of • Welfare Officer
was discussed and upon motion of IQ..LJ..C: Byrd of the Board of >duoation,seoonded
by Mr. Cooke of the Board of Commissioners Miss Lillie Davie was unanimously
elected for the ensuing two year term.
It is ordered that Miss Davis be requested to investigate the condition of
George Messer at Goats, J.C. and report to Board.
It is ordered that the appointment of M.Y. Jernigan as Judge of the Dunn
Recorders Gouty by the Commissioners of the Town of Dunn be confirmed.
It is ordered that report of Geo. L. Cannady, Tax 011ector, be accepted and
approved and filed.
It is ordered that the valuation of the Building and Lot owned by Carolina
Telephone and Telegraph Company in the Town of Dunn be reduced to 412000.00 and
that the valuation of lot and building in the Town of Lillington be reduced to
41000.00.
It is ordered that petition for road in Hectors Creek Township from Highway
Ho. 21 to e point near J.C.Senter's farm be approved and forwarded to the State
Highway and Public borka Commission for consideration.
It is ordered that report of Jeff Turlington, County Warden, be accepted,
approved and ordered filed.
It is ordered that J.S. McLean, Auditor and Commissioner Cameron be authorized
to sell Ford truck belonging to the County for a sum not leas than 265.00.
IT IS ordered that the report of Grand Jury be accepted and ordered recorded.

1e, the Grand Jury for this the Second May Term of Harnett Superior Court, do
respectfully make the folsowing report of oar tranaoationa as tills Term:
We have diligently inquired into all bills of indictment cent as by the
Solicitor and have made returns accordingly.
ee,have inapeoted the several offices in the Courthouse, the Jail,athe County
Home, the Convict Camp, the 4ounty Garage and found all in good shape. we talked
with the inmates confined in the jail, the inmates in the County Home, and the
prisoners at the Convict Camp, and all reported good treatment at the hands of
those in whose care they were planed.
N recommend that a permanent cook or cooks be provided at the County Home,
in plane of temporary ones now provided.
We recommend that a hot water tank be provided for kitohen in the Jail and
that new floors be planed in the living quarters of the Jail.
We found that the following Justices of the Peace have not made reports to
this Term: W.H. Sal mon,E.W.MoLeod, Gordon Harrington and O.P.Shell.
We desire to thank His Honor, Judge Small, the solicitor, and the County
Officials for the assistance and courtesies rendered us at this term.

RESOLUTION:
WHEREAS, the County of Harnett became the last and highest bidder for that tract
or lot of land in Averasboro Township, listed for taxation by the Page Trust Eo.
for the year 1928 et a sale conducted by J.O.West, Commissioner, appointed under
that judgsent entitled *County of Harnett versus Page Trust Company", recorded
in the office of the Clerk of the Superior Court of Harnett County in Book 23,
at page 154¢
And whereas, Gurney P. Hood, Commissioner of Banks has offered the County of
Harnett the sum of 4174.28 for the interest the County of Harnett has in said
lands;
And whereas the Board ,of ommissioners is of the opinion that it will be to
the beat interest of the County of Harnett that the County of Harnett accept said
offer;
Now therefore, be it resolved that the County of Harnett convey such interest
as it has in the said lot, which lot is described in Book 206, at page 254, to
Gurney P. Hood, Commissioner of Banks for the sum of $174.28 and that the Chairman
and the Clerk to the Board of Commissioners be and they are hereby authorized to
execute s proper deed of release of such interest as the County of Harnett has
in said lands upon the payment of the aforedaid purchase price.
RESOLUTION:
RESOLVED that the 9ounty of Harnett convey to Neill A. Moore a deed of release
for the lands described in that deed recorded in Book 226, page 530, Harnett
County Registry, without consideration and that the Chairman execute in the name
of the County a deed for same.
RESOLUTION;
WHEREAS, J.R. Young listed 445 acres of lend in Stewerts Creek Township for
the years 1930, 1932 and 1933 ;.
And whereas, N.W. Gregory at a foreclosure sale of said lands became the last
and highest bidder for the said lands;
And whereas N.W. Gregory desires to pay the taxes on said lands;
And whereas, Sam Elliott listed for taxation 25 acres of said lands and paid
taxes on the same as follows: 1929, W.92; 1930, 413.35 ;; and 1933, 43.78, making
a total of 431.06;
IT IS 4WtRWFORE ORDERED that J.R. Young be granted releases for the amounts and
years set out above paid by Gam lmlliott.
IT IS ORDERED THAT H.C. Northrop and Go. be awarded the contract for County Audit
for the four years ending June 30th. 1935 of all County offices for a`'sum not to
exceed 41075.00. The contract to be drawn in accordance with letter accompanying
bid.
It is ordered that report of Edwin Harrington, Register of Deeds, be accepted and
filed end check in the sum of t400.30 be delivered to the County Auditor for
distrMbetinn.
It is ordered that the salary of Miss Lillie Davis, Welfare Officer, be fixed at
41680.00 per annum with an allowance of $300.00 for travel expense per year and
that she be paid $25.00 per month from the 1st. day of November, 1934 to date on
account of a previous order granting her this travel allowance.
It is ordered that reports of Dr. Peede, County Health Officer, be accepted and
filed.

The Board of County 'Commissioners met in call session with the following
members present: J.B. Ennis, Chairman, Geo, T. Noel, J.S. Barker,A.A.Cameron
and E.L. Cooke. I.R.Williams, County Attorney was also present.
It is ordered that T.L. Anderson be granted peddler's license without charge
on account of being a disabled Spanish - American War Veteran.
It is ordered that Miss Lillie Davis, Welfare Officer, be requested to
attempt to get Paul McLaughlinitn the State Hospital as soon as possible.
WHERRAR, the Qcunty Health Officer has condemned that slough in Duke Town-
ship which is located near the "Y" of Durham and Southern Railway on account of
fact that the thing is detrimental to the health of that community;
Whereas, R.D. Boseman, County Surveyor has repoted to the Board of Commissioner
that in his opinion the culverts under the tract Of the D.and S. are not large enough
to carry water off. -
Therefore, be it resolved that the sum of $100.00 be and the same hereby ap-
propriated for the 1935 -36 bidget to the Board of Health of Harnett County to be
used in making the condemned slough healthful.
Be it resolved that the D and S R.R. Oo. be requested to plane sufficient
culverts under said tracts.

HARNETT COUNTY:
It appearing to the Board of Commissioners of Harnett county that
for the years 1930 through 1933 that I.B. Byrd, Lillington Township, failed to list
43 acres of land and that for the year 194, ILK. Byrd failed to list 113 acres of
land. All of which is encumbrered by a Mortgage Deed to the 'federal Land Bank. The
Federal Land Bank is ready to pay said taxes upon receipt pf statement.
It is hereby ordered that the county Auditor after -list the said 43
acres for the years 1930, 1931 and1932 at a valuation of $2240.00 and for the year
1933 at $1675.00. The 113 acres of land be listed for the year 1934 at a valuation
of $3200.00.
It is hereby further ordered that the Auditor be and he is hereby
directed to release said lands from taxation for the years 1934 and prier years upon
the payment of the sum of $390.85.
This the 12th. day of June, 1935.

United States of America through the Federal Emergency Administration of Public
Works for a loan and grant to aid in financing the construction of certain sohool
buildings and additions to school - buildings, 4ounty Jail and County Home and des-
ignating B.P. Gentry, Supt. of Schools to furnish such information as the Government
may request.
"Be it resolved by the Board of Commissioners of County of Harnett:
Section J,( That B.P. Gentry, Supt of Schools be and he is hereby authorized to
execute and file an application on behalf of County of Harnett to the United States
of America for a loan and grant to aid in financing the construction of certain
School Buildings,- additions to school buildings and additions to County Jail and
County Home.
8eotion 2: That J.S. MoLean,AUditor, I.R. Williams, County Attorney and W.K.
Deitrieh, Architect, be and they are hereby authorized and directed to furnish such
information as the United States of America through the Federal Emergency Administra
tion of iublic :`Works may reasonkbly request in connection with the application which
is herein authorized to be filed.
