Feb. 4th. 1935.
The Board of County Commissipners met in regular session with the following
members present: J.B.Mnnis, Chairman, L.L.Cooke, J.S. Barker, Geo. T. Noel anc
A.A. Cameron. I.R.Wiiliams, County Attorney, also present.
It is ordered that the County Auditor be authorized to correct error in the listing
of cotton by F.T. Tart.
It is ordered that petition for road in Grove Township be approvaedand sent to the
State Highway and Public Works Commission for consideration.
It is ordered that E.V. Barefoot be granted peddler's license without charge on
account of being a disabled World War Veteran.
It is ordered that air. Noel and Mr. Cameron, Committee on the County Home, be
requested to investigate the crowded condition at same Home.

It is ordered that J.S. Barker and J.B. McLean be requested to act es a committee
to investigate the valuation of the lands of I.Y. Tutor in Buckhorn Township and
also the valuation of the lands of Tom Moore in Buckhorn Township.
It is ordered that H.B. Morgan be relieved of the payment of poll tax for the years
1934 and 1935 on account of physical disability.
It is ordered that report of Lr. A.W. Peede, County Health Officer, be accepted
and filed.
It is ordered that report of Grand Jury be accepted, approved and ordered filed.
It is ordered that Isaac Ray, Colored, of Stewarts Creek Township be relieved of
the payment of 02/00 dog tax for the year 1934.
RESOLUTION:
Resolved that whereas that lot on 8. Elm Street on which Mrs. DU. Blackman
was assessed by the appraisers in 1931 at 4990.00 in the name of Mrs. D.A Black-
man and in the name of L.B. Blackman at 01490.00, it is ordered that the teluation
of said lot be fixed at 0990/00 for the year 1931 and the reduction allowed by
Act of 1933 be allowed, and the Auditor give such credits as have been paid bp
the said lots by either Mrs. D.A Blackman or L.B. Blackman.
It is ordered that Geo. L. Woodley be relieved of the payment of poll tax for the
years 1934 and 1935 on account of being a disabled World War Veteran.
It is ordered that J.0. Anthony be authorized to rent the old Bank of Lillington
Building at a monthly rental of not more than 020.00 per month.
It is ordered that the County Auditor be requested to determine the amount of taxes
due by C.S. Hicks on six lots in Lillington and issue receipts upon payment of the
same. It is further ordered that a valuation of 0100.00 be placed on same for the
year 1935.
It is ordered that report of Edwin Harrington, Register of Deeds, with check in
the sum of 4471.40 be accepted and orcered filed.
It is ordered that the Purchasing Agent be authorized to purchase typewriter for
use in the County Farm Agent's Office.
It is ordered that Mr. Bqrker, Mr. Cameron and Mr. Noel be requested to act as a
Committee in securing Government Mb in re- forestation work in Harnett County.
RESOLUTION:
It is ordered that the County Auditor be authorized to segregate and plane a
valuation on one lot of land on South Fayetteville Street in the Town of Vann
owned by Mrs. Mamie J. Pittman, said lot being 140 by 150 feet, of $500.00 and a
valuation of 4835.00 on the buildings and place a valuation of $325.00 on the ad-
joining inside lot, sold by Mrs. Pittman to A.H. Zehmer, MuKinnie, Va.
RESOLUTION:
It is ordered that the valuation of that 10 acre tract describe('. in that deed

for the payment of taxes according to this valuation with the horizontal cut for
1933 to be allowed.
RESOLUTION:
It is ordered that I.R. Williams, County Attorney, assume charge of and push to a
conclusion all suits instituted by J.O. test, former County Attorney, and that I.R.
Williams draw immediately non- suits. in all cases in which cases non -suits should
be taken, either because the same does not describe the lands or in cases wherein
the taxes have been paid or settled for by notes; and J.S. McLean, L.M. Chaffin
Geo. T. Noel and I.R. Williams be and they are hereby authorized to allow J.O. West
such credits as he is entitled to as fees allowed by Court and to report to this
Board such fees as they think J.O. West is entitled to receive because of non-suits
taken by I.R.Williams as directed above.
It is ordered that E.V. Barefoot of Coats, N.C. be allowed to peddle lawful wares
/without charge for a period of one year .from date.
/7It is ordered that 1934 taxes and prior taxes on that five acre tract allotted to
A.D. Coats in that case entitled"B.C. Lucas and wife versus A.D. goats", being judg-
ment No. 8176, be marked paid and satisfied upon the payment of 450.00Tby Mrs. A.D.
Cpats or by any one for her benefit, the Board of Commissioners being of the opinion
that it is to the best interest of the County for the wddow, Mrs. A.D. Coats, to
\remain on the said homestead than to be admitted to the County Home.
It is ordered that H.S. ityals, Administrator of W.J. . Weaver Estate, be retuned
the sums of $25.00 and $1.50 respectively, being tax and interest on 1928 taxes .

RESOLUTION:
At a meeting on the Board of 'County Commissioners of Harnett County, held on the
• day of February, 1935, the following members were present, the same being a
quorum of said Board: J.B. Ennis, L.L. Cooke.,G.T. Noel, J.S. Barker and Angus A.
Cameron.
The following resolution was offered by Mr. E.L. Cooke and seconded by Mr. G.T.
Noel:
"Resolved byt-.the Board of 4taunty Commissioners of Harnett County:
(1) That for properly maintaining a six months school term in District No. 6,
Grove.Tpwnshi?p, Goats School, W. race, Harnett County as required by Article IX,
eetion 3, of the ( onstitatien iafcthe State of North Carolina, it is necessary that
certain improvements be made therein of the following character:
(2) That in order to provide said improvements it is necessary that the sum of
Twenty Thousand Dollars ($20,000.00) be obtained by borrowing the same, to be used
by the County Board of Education of Harnett County for said purpose.
(3) That the Board'of Uoanty Commissioners of Harnett County does hereby approve
of and authorize" the application for, and procurement of, a loan for said purpose
from the State Literary *and of the State of North Carolina, extablished and operate€t
under 111 O.S. 5683 -5687, the same being Article 24, Chapter 136, Public Laws of
1923 and said Board does hereby authorize that all necessary steps be taken to pro-
cure said loan under the terms of said statutes and the rules and regulations of the
State Board of Education governing the making of loans from said fund, ana the Chair -
man and Secretary of this Board are hereby authorized, empowered and directed for
and on behalf of this Board to join with the County Board of Education of Harnett
County in making necessary applications therefor, and to take such action under this
resolution and under said statutes, rules and regulations as may be necessary for
Said purpose.
(4) That the Board of Commissioners of Harnett Qo,unty hereby agrees to levy, at
the appropriate time tax levying period in each of and every year, upoh all taxable
property in said County, ad valorem taxes at a rate sufficient to meet the interest
and principal payments on such part of the loan requested herein as may approved
by the State Board of Education, and thereby provide the funds necessary each and
every year to meet and repay the interest and principal payments due on . such ap-
proved loan, under the terms of the statute by authority of which the said loan is
made and in accordance with the rules and regulations of the State Board of Educations
governingsuch loans, as found in Book 10, pp,340 and 368 of the minutes of the said
State Board of Education."
The resolution was adopted by the following vote:
