The Board of County Commissioners met in regular session with the following
embra present: J.B. Ennis,Chairman,E.L.Cooke, H.M. 0/Quinn, J.P. Byrd and J.S. Barker
I.R.Williams, County Attorney was also present:
It is ordered that M.C. Blue, U.L.R. Township, be relieved of poll tax for the
year 1932 on account of being a- disabled World War Veteran.
It is ordered that Henry McLean, Upper Little River Township, be- relieved of
poll ta-x.for the year 1932 on account of being a disabled World War Veteran.
It is ordered that the question of the excessive valuation of W.H. Reardon's
property in Black River Township be referred to I.R. Williams, County Attorney and
J.S. McLean, +b unty Auditor and make their report to the Board of Commissioners.
It is ordered that report of Geo. L,•Cannaday, Tax Collector, be accepted and
ordered filed.
It ds ordered that report of Geo. L, Cannaday, Collector of Privilege Tax, be
accepted and ordered filed.
It is ordered that report of L.M. Chaffin,`0.S.C., with check in the sum of
$37.00, be accepted and ordered filed.
It is ordered that Miss McQueen be requested to submit to the Council of Relief
an itemized statement of all outstanding indebtedness of the Relief Fund -at their
meeting held each two weeks and that a copy of this report be also furnished to the
County Auditor.
It is ordered that A.W. Monds be relieved of taxes on a valuation of $80.00
on account of building being destroyed by fire, and listed by error.
It is ordered that H. (colon Stewart, Upper Little River Township, be relieved
of the payment of poll tax for the year 1932 on account of being disabled World War
Veteran.
It is ordered that the taxes on land of W.H. Reardon in Black River Township
e reduced in such sum as will amount to the taxes on $275.00 for years 1929 and 1930
rovided the balance of 1929 taxes are paid by Oct. 1st. 1933. This compromise is made
on account of destruction by fire of barns and out - buildings.
It is ordered that the question of excessive valuation of the property of
lonnie Tart be referred to the County Attorney and the *linty Auditor.
SOLUTION; Resolved that bill prepared under instructions of this Board,
a copy of which has been filed in the Minute Masker pile, be transferred by the Chair
an to Representative, J.R. Young, with the request that the same be introduced
n the General Assembly and that said Representative be requested further to endeavor
o have said bill passed. Resolution unanimously adopted by the Board.
It is ordered that 10 acres of the County Farm be appropriated to J.0. An thon,
ounty Farm Agent, to be used as a Community Garden to raise food of the poor and un-
mployed.
It is ordered that the $15000000 policy on the Court House presented by J.C.
homson be accepted and the premium of * 1-430 be paid.
It is ordered that Mrs. Jas. P. Jordan be refuned $65.10 on account of taxes
aid by her and which belonged to the Overhill Land Company.
The question of the appointment of a County Attorney being discussed and
fter due consideration it is ordered that nominations be received for this position.
hereupon Mr. E.L. Cooke placed in nomination Mr -. I..R.Williams. Mr. Gookels nomination
as seconded by H.M. O'QUINN.
Mr. Barker then placed in nomination Mr. J.S. Barker. Mr. Barker's nom Nation
as seconded by Mr -. Byrd.
It was then ordered that a vote be taken and the result is as follows:
Voting for Mr. Jernigan: Barker and Byrd
Voting for Mr. Williams, Cooke, O'Quinn and Ennis.
As a result of the above vote Mr. Williams was declared elected for the
nsuing term.
It is ordered that the salary of the County Attorney be fixed at $900.00

RESOLUTION:
Whereas, the Board of Education and the Board of County Commissioners,
both of Harnett County, in joint session learn with regret of the death of Mr.
J.M. Hodges; and
Whereas, )Jr. Hodges served for several 'ems as Chairman of the Board
of County Commissioners, and for eighteen years or more he served as Chairman of
Whereas, Mr. Hodges in these and other official capacities, renders the .:card of Education; and
