The Board of Commissioners met in regular sessdon with effe following members
present: J.W. Halford, Chairman, J.H.Williams, E.L.Oooke, J.B. Ennis and H.M.O'Quinn

It was ordered that J.S. McLean, County Auditor, be instruted to investigate the
valuation of the wood land of G.L. Hemmingway as compared with M.E. Thornton, ad-
joining land owner, in Averasboro Townkhip and report to Board.
It was ordered that J.S. McLean, Bounty Auditor, investigate the listing of five
dogs-by Garland Sloan and J.M. Sloan and advise the Board as to whom should pay
tax on these dogs in case that'he finds that only five dogs are owned
by the two.
3t was ordered that Miss McQueen be instructed to investigate the _condition of Mrs.
Butler as to her children and report to the Board as to what disposition she thinks
should be made of them.
It was ordered that G.L. Hemingway be released of taxes evaluation of 41080.00 for
the years 1928, 1929 and 1930 on account of excess valuation of wood land.
It was ordered that Geo. E. Tew be released from the payme4t of poll tax for the
year 1930.
It was ordered that Garland Sloan be released of $5.00 dog tax as dogs were listed
and taxes paid by J.M. Sloan.
It was ordered that bond of Geo. L. Cannday, Tae Collector, for 050000,00 with Oarolir.a
Causalty Company be accepted and filed 'e doh i d recorded,
It as ordered that T.R. Brown be instructed to proceed with the erection of a
sto_age house at the County Home for the storage of meat, etc. at the lowest possi-
ble'dost for a building to be built of brick.
It was ordered that L.M. Chaffin be instructed to purchase new volume of GonsolidateL
Statutes for the sum of $15.00 with exchange of old volumes,

It was ordered that petition for road in Hectors Creek Township be approved and
that same be mailed to State Highway Commission for eoasideration.
It was ordered that Modern Steam Laundry be given the laundry business of the
County Home at the end of the agreement with Dunn Family Laundry for a term of two
months.
It was ordered that oath of Geo. L. cannaday as Tax Collector be accepted and filed.
It was ordered that the salary of the Uounty Health officer be fixed at $25.00 per
month and that he be allowed #35.00 per month as Quarantine officer.
It was ordered that report of Asa D. Herring, Col. Farm Agent, for Months of July
Aug. and Sept. be accepted and filed.

It was resolved that J.S. McLean, County Auditor, prepare list of all persons who
have not.liated their property for the year 1931 and present same to the Grand Jury
for prosecution at the next term of Superior Court.
It was ordered that the County Purohasing Agent investigate the cost of coffins
for the poor of the County end in the event of purchase store same in Lillington
and Bunn.
Mrs. J.W. Byrd be 3Y released of all taxes in excess of
00 in Grove Township for the year 1930.
C.R. Partin be relieved of poll tax for the year 1930 in Black
It was resolved that J.S. McLean, County Auditor, be and he is hereby authorized and
empowered to accept $ 34.36 in payment of 1931 taxes on 90 sores listed by A.A. Mc-
Bons$ in Lillington Township es described in deed from Cttiokamauga Trust Company
Trustee to Prudential Life Insurance Company of America. The valuation on the above
property for the year 1931 to be placed at 02070.00.
It was ordered by the Board that the valuation of the lands of Mrs. J.P. Rosser in
Barbecue Township be reduced from $5110.00 to 44500.00
It wee ordered that the lot of C.S. Hicks in the town of Bunn be reduced from
43410.00 to $2600.00 and listed as one lot.
It was ordered that the lands of J.W. Driver be sold to Jas. H. Driver and Charles
Driver upon payment of the amount of taxes due the County upon the following terms:
$30,00 per month and deed to be deltbred when payment in full has been made.
It is ordered that the 74 acres of land in Averasboro Township listed by J. Frank
,Beasley for 1929 and valued at $4490.00 be released from further taxation for year 1
'1929 upon the payment of taxes on a valuation of $4490.00 and one -half of the taxes
of his personal property and that the County Auditor be authorised to issue proper
release.
It was ordered that the lands of D.M. McIsmb in Stewatts Creek Township, described
in deed from J.H. MCIamb dated Sept. 29, 1931, containing 2 acres be valued at $20.00
And that the County Auditor be authorized to issue proper receipts for back taxes
yon payment of same and said receipts shall show that said land is so release!.
Whereas the County of Harnett is the owner of land described in that deed from J.0.
West, commissioner to the County of Harnett, which deed was executed under authority
contained in an order of sale in the Judgment entitled County of Harnett vs M.G.Lee
And WhereasM.G, Lee desires.to purchase said land from the County of Harnett :
Now Therefore, be it resolved that the County of Harnett for the sum of 3250.00
and 1931 tax convey to the said M.G. Lee that lot described in the Mortgage deed
from Sllis Goldstein to M. G. Lee and Chairman execute in the name of Harnett County
proper deed of conveyance, providing said purchase money is paid by First Monday in
ovember, 1931.

of Harnett County be approved, anzerbalt accepted and ordered recorded and file with

It is further ordered that said bond of Geo. L. Cannaday
responsible for the collection of 1931 levy only.

It was ordered that report of L.M. Chaffin, C.S.C. enclosing checks for $191.00 and
$150.50 respectively be accepted and filed and checks ordered delivered to Auditor.

It appearing to the Board from the above petition that the relief prayed for is
just and right and that the values as set out in the petition are correct; and e
potion having been made and duly adopted by the Boetd, it is therefore ordered Vat
vacant lot be segregated et a valtie of $750.00 and the person roperty at a value of
$415.00 and that the taxes for the year 1930 and the years prior thereto where the
taxes have not been paid be assessed against said property at the above values;
that the vacant lot and the personal property be relieved from the lien of any
further taxes for the year 1930 and years prior thereto upon the payment of the taxes
- figured upon said valuations.
That the vacant lot be separated for the year 1931 at the value as 'assessed
against said lot for the year 1931 and that said vacant lot be discharged from any
further lien for 1931 taxes upon the payment of the tax assessed against said lot/

TO THE BOARD OF COMISSIONERS OF HARNETT COUNTY:
Your petitioner respectfully showeth:
That there remains on the tax books of Harnett County a•balance of $49.90
assessed against the First National Bank of Dunn for the year 1928; all taxes assess
against the real estate of said bank for the year 1928 have been paid and this bal-
ance remaning unpaid is taxes on the personal property of said Bank.
The first National Bank of Dunn, by order of its Board of Directors closed its
doorson November 13, 1928 and was placed in the hands of a National Bank receiver
for liquidation; that under the provisions of the Federal Raaaaie Statutes and laws
regulating the taxation of national ,banks, a receiver of a national bank is not liab:
for payment of taxes assessed against his trust, except taxes assessed against the r
estate belonging to the trust.
The undersigned, therefore, respeq,tfully requests your Board that, by a proper
resolution, the balance of $49.90 remaining on the books of Harnett County as taxes
assessed against the First National Bank of Dunn for the year 1928, be stricken out
and cancelled.

and released of any and all Harnett County taxes for years 1930 aid all prior years
upon the payment of the sum of $154.36 on or before Oct. 15, 1931; Amd further

and directed to execute and deliver proper receipt in fall and final settlement of

It was ordered that the property of Goldstein Realty pmpany in Averesbaro Town-
ship be released from further taxation for the years 1929 and 1930 upon the payment
of taxes on a valuation of $3300.60 for 1929 and 4100 for 1930 on account of vario
lots having been sold to Gulf Refining Co., Geo L. Cannaday, G.W. Butler and others
and the taxes having been paid by them.
