The Board of Commissioners of Harnett County met in regular session on
Monday March 1,1943 at 10:00 A M with J B Ennis Chin., R. L. Pate Ferd D.
Jackson,L. R.Byrd and A A. Cameron. Also present was H C atrickland County Atty.
and the Clerk to Board
The Board approved the recommendantion of Miss Wilma Williams, Supt. of
Welfare to raise the salary of Mrs Marjorie M.Olive, Case Worker from $1260.
to $1380. affective April 1,1943. The .amount of the salary is set up the Merit
System of State.
The Board granted $75. to Battalion Hdq.,N.C. State National Guard Dunn,N.C.
for equipment for office. -
Policy #205301 with American Ins Co. in amt. of $5000. fire Ins. on County
Home was approved and ordered filed.
Policy #3814 Aetna Ins Co. in amount of $5000. on County Home was approved
and ordered field.
Policy #4838 Springfield Ins. Co. in amount of
approved and ordered filed.

It having been made to appear to the satisfaction of the Board of County
Commissioners that, in an endeavor to collect from F D.Swann,Colored, of
Johnsonville Township, his 1939 taxes by garnishee - procedure, the said taxes
in the amount of $6.06 were erroneously paid through the Current Tax Collector
on behalf of Dallas Swann by H.C. Cameron,Jr., who demands refund of the same,
and that W.D.Harrington is charged with the loss of $6.06 which the County has
received, and that he should be reimbursed and refunded said amount of $6.06;
It is ordered that voucher be issued by the County to W.D.Harrington reimbursing
him to the extent of $6.06.

The Board released Eugene E.Aikon x,2.24 Erwin,N.C. -of poll tax for year 1942
on account of »hysicial disability.
The Board released C.H.(Nealy) Pope Averasboro Township of $2.00 dog tax
for yr. 1942 on account of.error in listing.
The Board released Julia Evans Wilson,Erwin of $1.00 dog tax for yr.
1942 on account of error in listing.
The Board of County Commissioners of Harnett County will meet at their
office in the Courthouse, at Lillington,N.C., at_10 otclock AM on Monday March
15,1943, for the purpose of reviewing and equalizing the valuations of property
as prescribed by law, and the Board will continue its sittings for that purpose
from time to time until the review and equalization shall have been completed.
BE IT RESOLVED that, upon receipt by the County of Harnett of the sum of
TWELVE HUNDRED FIFTY (01250.) Dollars within thS month of March,1943, the lien
of taxes for the year 1942 and all prior years due by the late D C Collins (for
years prior to 1940) and by K R Hoyle and D C.Collins,Jr., (for 1940, 1941 and
1942), on land in Upper Little River Township, Harnett.County,North Carolina,
j now ascertained to contain about 250 acres, be released and relinquished;
`/1 and that upon receipt by the County of said sum, it shall also operate to
release Southern Sand & Gravel Company of taxes allegedly owing by it for the
year 1933 and all years prior thereto.
And when said sum shall have been received by the County, as herein provided,
the County Attorney is hereby authorized and directed to take a non -suit in the
pending action wherein County of Hain ett is plaintiff and D.C.Col1ins and others
are defendants, in the Superior Court of Harnett County, as said amountshall
be in full satisfaction of all matters in controversy between the parties.

M 0 Lee was unanimously appointed Solicitor of Recorders Court to till
out the present term.
Be it resolved that, upon receipt by the County of Harnett of the further
sum of $803.07 ($312.52 having been heretofore paid on April 1,1944), making a
total of *1115.59, the lien of taxes on farm lands heretofore improperly listed
to J.L.Thompson, in Lillington Township, be released for the years 1928, 1929,
1930, 1931, 1932 and 1933, the said listing being in sufficient to support
foreclosure, and the total mentioned being more than sufficient to discharge
the actual taxes for said years, exclusive of costs, etc. and upon receipt of
said sum the delinquent tax collector shall be relieved of liability for said
items as charged and the County Attorney will take a non -suit in the old and
pending case of the County vs. J.L.Thompson and wife.

The Board recessed to re verie March 15, at 10 :00 A.M. to sit as a Board
of Equalization.
The Board of County Commissioners met in the Court: House on Monday March
15,1943 sitting as .a Board of Equalization in its first meeting for the year
1943 with all members present. Oaths to members were administered by D P.Ray,Jr.
deputy,C.S.C. On motion the Board ordered County accountant to use 1942 -blue
Book values for calculating taxes on automobiles and trucks for the year 1943.
Mr. Bennett 'nnis asked for an adjustment in Duke Township because of the
fact that no error was found his request was refused.
The Board ordered that Rev. W.A.Cade be granted release of 43245. on 125 acres
in Buckhorn Township from the year 1938 and auditor was instructed to rebate
amount of taxes over period during that time, on account of sale of timber in
1938.
The Board took a recess until Monday March 22,1943 at l0o'clock A.M.

The Board of Equalization and review met at 10 o'clock Monday March 22,1943
with the following members present and J B.Ennis,Ferd D.Jackson,L.R.Byrd,Angus
A.Cameron and R.L.Pate. H.C.Strickland,Atty. and x.S.Freeman,Clerk.
Lot on W.Broad Street of Mrs. Caro Bennett Sorrell 70 x 140 was ordered
reduced from $1050. to $800.
f One new frame building of Mrs.Virginia Chenault in Neills Creek was reduced
from $300. to $200.
Mrs. Mary A.Bethune requested reduction on account of sale of timber. Request
was refused because no timber has been valued.
V( New store building of H.C.Turlington Wilson Ave. was reduced from $4500. to
X4000.
There being no further business the Board recessed until Monday March 29th
at 10: o'clock A.M.

The Board of Commissioners met in special session at its office in the courthouse
at Lillington Monday,March 22,1943, at which'were present Chairman J.B.Ennis, atf
Commissioner A.A.Cameron,L.R.Byrd, and F.D.Jackson.
By unanimous vote of all Commissioners Ferd D.Jaekson was appointed as a member
of the Harnett County Welfare Board for a term of two years, beginning April 1,
1943, vice F.D.Jaelkson.
