The Board appointed J B. Ennis Chairman of the. 'Board of Commissioners and A.A
Cameron Vice Chairman of the Board of Commissioners for a term of two years.
The Board appointed L R Byrd and Ferd D.Jackson the still Committee for a
of two years.
R.L.Pate was appointed purchasing agent-for Harnett County and Ferd D..
Jackson assistant purchasing agent for a term of two years.
R.L. Pate and A.A.Cameron were named as the County Home Committee for a term
of two years.
Ferd D.Jackson and Sheriff - W.E•Salmon were named as the Court House Committee
to serve for a term of two years.
E.C.Byrd was appointed Suerpintendent of the County Home for a term of one
year. -
H.C.Strickland was named County Attorney for a term of two years.
H.S. Freeman was appointed County Auditor for a term of one year.
H.S. Freeman was appointed County Tax Supervisor for a term of one year.

and filed with the C S C

The Board of Commissioners of' Harnett "County met in regular session Monday
December 7th,1942 at 10 :30-A.M. with the' following members present:" J.B. Ennis,
Chairman ,L..R.Byrd,R.L.Pate,A.A.Cameron, and Ferd D.Jackson, also present were
H.C.Strickland,County Attorney, and Inez Harrington,Clerk to the Board.
It is 'ordered that F.L.Jennings, colored,Barbecue "Twp. be released of $l.
dog tax foil the year 1934 because of error in listing.
It is ordered that taxes in the amourt Of 49.18. an 30 acres of real estate
in Stewart la Creek Twp. listed in the name of Sandy McDouglad, colored; for the
year 1937 be released because of double listing to Jacob McLean, and taxes
on this property having been paid by Jacob McLean.
It is ordered- that VPiIIie radon "in Averasboro Twp.; be released of poll tax
for the year 1937, he being above poll tax age for that. year.
It is ordered that taxes on stocks and mdse. for the year 1940 listed to
J.R.Godwin in Lillington Twp. be released, s ame property having been listed in
the name of Stockyard Service Station by J.R.Godwin and taxes paid.
Be it resolved that the property desdribed in foreclosure judgment #A -881
Office of the Clerk of Superior Court of Harnett County, by quit - claimed by
the County of Harnett to adie Baer, upon receipt by the County and' Town of Dunn
of the sum of 1500. and upon receipt of said sum, the Chairman of the Board of
County Commissioners is authorized and direoted to execute -deed in the name
of the County and the Clerk to the Board will attest same as provided by law.

Be it resolved that the promrty on N. Magnolia Ave described in foreclosure
judgment #A-952, office o f t he-I'lerk of the Harnett County Superior Court, be
quitclaimed to T.T.Furgereon,:r., Upon receipt by the County and Town of Dunn
of the sum of $250 and upon receipt Of said sum, the Chairman of the Harnett
County Board of Commissioners il hereby authrbized and directed to execute deed
to purehase on behalf of the County of Harnett and the Clerk to the Board will
attest the same as provided by law.
It is ordered that, upon receipt by the County of Harnett of 0.0.62 from Mrs.
B.B.Upchurch the balance of the unpaid lien, Alt 1928 taxes on 39t acres of
land in Black River Township, listed to B.B.Upchurch, be discharged because of
error.
The names of the serveral officers elected of Harnett County and the
Townships, who ordinarily would qualify for office today, were submitted to the
Board as provided by law, and the mealier* of the Board unanimously approved ef
their induction to their several offices.
FIRE INSURANCE
Policy #2140 of Altna Ins. Co. in amount of $1000. on Dwelling on Court
House Square was approved & ordered filed.
The application of Miss Ida Milton for reduction of $20. in valuation on
one corner lot on McKay St. in the town of Dunn was denied.
The Board appointed H C Strickland,LAChaffin,M.M.Jernigan, & H.S. Freeman
as committee to make plan to consolidate the tax offices for the collection
of taxes in Harnett County.
It is ordered that Dr.A.R.McQueen be appointed as trustee of Harnett
County Hospital to fill the unexpired term of Mr.Fryar who has resigned as
trustee.
The Board allowed $150 to be allowed for extra help in the Register of Deeds
Office for a period of 3 months.
The Board allowed Thursday, Friday and Saturday, December 24,25, and 26
for the Christmas holidays.
It is ordered to release Mes. W.H.Reardon of Neills Creek Township of late
listing of personal property for the-year 1942. W H Reardon was released of
poll tax for the year 1942 on account of physical disability.
The report of Howard Godwin C.S.C. for the month of November 1942 and
Statement of Office from January 1,1942, to November 30,1942 was approved and
ordered filed.
The report of Ines Harrington, Register of Deeds was approved and ordered
filed.
The report of Lola 01Quinn D.T.C. was approved and ordered filed.
The report of W.D.Harrington tax collector was appointed and ordered filed.
The Board granted Beer license to Tom Newton,Lillington,N.C. at two way
Service Station,Lillington,N.C.
The following road petition was approved and ordered forwarded to the
State Highway and Public Works commission:
that the road in Black River Townehip,Harnett County,North Carolina, leading
from the eld Angier-Costs, Road at a point where Charlie Norden lives, vie
the lands of R.s.iltart, to a point on the Angier Butt's Mill-Huiets Creek Road
where Wilson Hart lives, a total distance of about ij miles, be improved.

RESOLUTION:
WHE&EAS the heirs of Geo.L.Hemingway of Averasboro township have filed with
the Board of Commissioners of Harnett County a petition authorizing the Auditor to
pay to Cumberland County taxes for 1942 and fire years back on that certain portion
of land lying in Cumberland County but listed and taxed in Harnett County; and;
Whereas the Auditor has computed the taxes -for said period on that ortion
of land lying in Cumberland County and finds same to be the amount of 018.64.
therefore be it resolved that the Auditor of Harnett County be authorized
to pay to the proper official of Cumberland the above named sum of $18.64 to
satisfy said petition.

WHEREAS, by resolution adoptid by the Board of Commissioners of Harnett County
on August 7,1939, it was ordered that approximately 12 acres of land in Barbecue
township,Harnett County, described in Judgment No.A -1281, be sold to Walter Lee
Johnson, and
WHEREAS,.thereafter, there was paid to the County of Harnett by the said Walter
Lee Johnson the sum of $40. in part payment iyr said land; and
WHEREAS,.since said date and on Nov. 21,1942, Walter Lee Johnson has directed
in writing that the said $40., ppaid by him, be placed to the credit of John
Swann and that deed be made to John Swann for said land, and has relinquished all
interest which he otherwise had by reason of his offer to buy and the agreement
of the County of Harnett to sell to him the said land, as evidencedoy the
original rbquest and release to Walter Lee Johnson hereto attached:
NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved that upon payment to the County of Harnett of
the balance of the purchase price as stated in the original resolution hereinbefore
referred to, the County of Harnett shall quitclaim unto John Swann ell its
right, title and interest in and to the said land, and the Chairman of the
Board of Commissioners is hereby authorised and directed to execute proper deed
an behalf of the County of Harnett upon John Swann complying with the terms of the
contract heretofore referred to, and the Clerk to the Board will attest the same.

State of North Carolina in the sum of TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS 010,000.00) to the

The condition of the above obligation is such, that whereas the above
bounden Howard G.Godwin has been elected clerk of the superior court of Harnett
County for the term of four (4f years from and after the 7th. day of December,
1942.
Now, if the said Howard G.Godwin shall account for and pay over according
to law all moneys and effects which have come or may come into his hands by
virtue or color of his office, or under an order or decree of a. judge, even
though such order or decree be void for want of jursdiction or other irregulari-
ties, and shall diligently preserve and take care of all books, records, papers,
and other property which have come or may come into his possession by virtue
or color of his office, and shall in all things faithfully perform the duties
of his office as they are or hereafter shall be prescribed by law, then this
obligation is to be void; otherwise to remain in full force and effect.
