The members of the Board of Commissioners of Harnett County met in
special session Thursday, November 13, 1941. Present: Commissioners
L.R.Byrd, R.L.Pate, F.D.Jackson, A.A.Cameron, and Chairman J.B.Ennis.
By an Order heretofore adopted by the Board of Commissioners, the
Old County Farm, near the Prison Camp, about 12 miles from Lillington,
was authorized to be auctioned off to the highest bidder, any high bids
to be submitted to the Board of Commissioners for confirmation or
rejection. In this connection, the bids were received today, and
thereupon Commissioner L.R.Byrd introduced the following Resolution:
"Whereas, after advertisement in the newspapers of the County, and
by display advertisements and circulars distributed throughout the
County, at 12 o'clock, m., November 13, 1941, J.0. Sutton and his wife
Myrtle Sutton, offered at public outcry the sum of $6,900.00 for the
Old Harnett County Farm, located about 1* miles from Lillington, N.C.
to be paid 1/4 cash, and balance in four, equal, annual payments,
deferred payments to bear interest at 6% per annum, payable annually,
until paid, and to be secured by a first lien on the said farm; and
"Whereas, the said bid of J.O.Sutton and wife Myrtie Sutton, was the
last and highest.bid received, and said autttion was well attended by
interested parties and prospective purchasers, and it appears to the
Board of Commissioners of Harnett County that it would be,and is,
advantageous to the County of Harnett to accept and confirm the offer
so made for said farm and to thereby dispose of it:
"Now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED: that, upon receipt by the County
of Harnett of the sum of $1725.00 cash, to be paid by J.O.Sutton and
wife Myrtie Sutton, of Harnett County, North Carolina, upon execution
and delivery to them of proper deed conveying title in fee simple to
said property known as the Old Harnett County Farm, near Lillington,N.C.
and upon delivery to the County of Harnett of four, negotiable, promissory
notes of J.O.Sutton and -wife Myrtie Sutton, each of the date said deed
may bear, and each in the sum of $1,293.75, due respectively 1, 2, 3, and 4
years from date of such deed, and bearing interest at 6% per annum,
payable annually, together with a deed of trust constituting a first lien
on the subject property securing the payment of said notes and interest
when due, with proper fire insurance policies on the buildings with
proper New York Standard Mortgagee Clause attached, the Chairman of the
Board of Commissioners of Harnett County be and he hereby is authorized
and directed to execute a proper deed in the name of theCounty of Harnett,
conveying title to said Old County Prison Farm situated about 12 miles
from Lillington, N.O. to J.O.Sutton and his wife Myrtle Sutton, and the
Clerk to the Board will attest the same and affix the Corporate Seal
of the County of Harnett.thereto, and cause the same to be delivered to
said purchaser."
Thereupon, motion for the adoption of the foregoing Resolution was
made by Commissioner R.L.Pate, seconded by Commissioner F.D.Jackson, and
the same, by unanimous vote of all members of the Board of Commissioners
of Harnett County was adopted. Voting for adoption: Commissioners
R.L.Pate, L.R.Byrd, A.A.Cameron and F.D.Jacks cn; Against: None.

and to this end they authorized the County
of a competent surveyor to make the survey
