HomeMy WebLinkAbout06021941305 June 2, 1941 The Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, June 2, 1941, with Chairman J.B.Ennis and Commissioners R.L.Pate, L.R.Byrd, Ferd D.Jackson and A.A.Cameron present. Also County Attorney H.C.Strickland. It is ordered that beer license be granted to Howard Barnes, Coats, N.C. It is ordered that beer license be granted to Willie Bryant Glover, Erwin, N.C. It is ordered that beer license be granted to Mrs.Otis Aiken and Addie McGee, Angier, N.C. It is ordered that beer license be granted to T.C.Hyman, Dunn, N.C. The report of the Grand Jury was read and ordered filed. The monthly report ordered filed. The monthly report and ordered filed. The monthly report and ordered filed. The monthly report of Howard Godwin, Clerk of Superior Court, was approved and ordered filed. It appearing that the tax abstract sheets covering property listed to Mary J.Salmon, Upper Little River Township as 71 acres for years 1928 to and including 1934, are not signed by the tax lister, and that by survey of W.P.Byrd, the tract contains only 472 acres, IT IS ORDERED that upon receipt during the month of June 1941, of $133.50, the lien of all taxes for 1940 and prior years shall be released in compromise settlement of pending suit. of W.D.Harrington, Tax Collector, was approved and of Lola O'Quinn, Delinquent Tax Collector, was approved of Inez Harrington, Register of Deeds, was approved BE IT RESOLVED that Lola O'Quinn be and she hereby is reappointed as Delinquent Tax Collector for Harnett County for the term beginning July 1, 1941 and ending June 30, 1942. In addition to the duties of collecting delinquent taxes, the Delinquent Tax Collector is halso hereby authorized to collect pre - payments of taxes for the 1941 levy. All sums so collected to be daily deposited in the county depository in keeping with the provisions of law. Before entering upoh the duties of the office for the term herein mentioned, Miss O'Quinn will give a good bond in proper form in the amount of $10,000.00 with sufficient surety, to be approved by the Board of Commissioners of Harnett County. Be it further resolved that Iva Johnson Sloan be and she hereby is appointed as assistant to the Harnett County Delinquent Tax Collector for term beginning July 1, 1941 and ending June 30, 1942. Before entering upon the duties of this office she will give bond in the sum of $5,000.00 with sufficient surety, same to be approved by the Board of Commissioners of Harnett County. It is ordered that Wilbert Leonard be hired out to Shep Hammond for his prison term ( 12 months ) upon Mr. Hammond paying costs of $21.30 for two months in the case of State -vs- Wilbert Leonard,and giving bond for payment to the County for $15.00 per month, all in keeping with the law and as provided in the judgment of the County Recorder's Court. It is ordered that 60.87 acre s of land listed to J.M.Mason in Lillington Township, for the year 1939, be released of the lien of taxes for 1939, in so far as J.M.Mason is concerned, the said property having been so listed through error, and that said land be after- listed to Ottis W.Pendergrass for the year 1939. It is ordered that the front wing of the County Home be treated for termites at a cost of :190.00. Be it resolved that the property in Dunn, acquired at tax foreclosure sale under Judgment No. 1866 -A -896, be sold to - - -- Bertha H.Felton, M.D.Felton, Jr. Ida Felton and Annie Felton - - -- for the sum of $414.22 cash upon delivery of deed from Town of Dunn and County of Harnett. Being a lot or parcel of land in Block "FY" according to the map of the town of Dunn, N.C. fronting 225 feet on South McKay Avenue by 300 feet deep, located on the West side of South McKay Avenue, and on the North side of the proposed extension of West Bay Street being that lot described in a deed from K.L.Howard and wife to M.D.Felton recorded in Book 188 at page 304 Registry of Harnett0ounty, N.C. to which reference is hereby made for a more complete description. Aril the Chairman of the Board is hereby authorized to execute deed to the above parties and the Clerk to the Board will attest same. 306 It is ordered that Mrs. Seth McLamb of Averasboro Township, be allowed $50.00 for hospitalization. It is ordered that Willie Byrd of Grove Township, Coats, N.C. be granted free pedier's license on account of physical disability. IT IS ORDERED that the lien of taxes on the 25 acres listed in the name of Phoeba Smith Estate (colored) Lillington Township for the years 1930 and 1939 be released, this property having been sold by County for taxes under Judgment A -1340 and settled in full. IT IS ORDERED that the 1937 taxes be released on two lots listed in the name of Herman Blakkman, Averasboro Township, because of double listing. IT IS ORDERED THAT the 1931 taxes be released on 58 acres of real estate in Barbecue Township, listed in the name of C.D.Mallett because of double listing. It is ordered that J.T.Smith be allowed to pay $50.00 this date on that 30 acres of land purchased from the County under Judgment No. 2315 -A -1299 and balance to be paid on November 1, 1941. It is ordered that C.R.Ammons be appointed County Farm Agent for a term of one year. It is ordered that Joe B.Gourlay be appointed Assistant Farm Agent for a term of one year.
