HomeMy WebLinkAbout11041940245 November 4, 1940 The Board of Commissioners of Harnett County met on Monday, November 4, 1940, at 10:00 A.M. with the following present: Chairman J.B.Fyhnis, and Commissioners R.L.Pate, L.R.Byrd, Ferd D.Jackson, and A.A.Cameron; also County Attorney H.C.Strickland. It is ordered that beer license be granted to Mrs.Mollie Smith at Smith's Ltudh Room in South Erwin, N.C. It is ordered that beer license be granted to Lamar Simmons at the S & S Cafe, in Lillington, N.C. It is ordered that beer license be granted to T.C.Hyman, at the American Grill, in the town of Dunn, N.C. It is ordered that the minutes of the meeting of the Board of Commissioners of November 6, 1939, relating to settlement of taxes of the late Dr. C.H.Sexton, be amended to indicate that the balance of the amount of 1937 taxes due Harnett County, to be paid this date, be 3289.54. It is ordered that Forrest F.Holland of Neills Creek Township be relieved of poll tax for the years 1938, 1939 and 1940, on account of being a disabled World War Veteran. It is ordered that H.G.Matthews, of Erwin, N.C. t Duke Township) be relieved of poll tax for the year 1940 because of physicial disability. BE IT RESOLVED that the County of Harnett, in consideration of the Harnett County Soil Conservation Association advancing its rate of charges for the use of its tractor, lend its guaranty of payment to the note of said Association, payable to E.F.Craven Company for parts had and used bn said tractor, and to that end, the Chairman of the Board of Harnett County Commissioners, is authorized and directed to execute said guaranty in the name of the County,and the Clerk to the Board will attest the same, said note to be dated this date and to bear interest at 6% from date, and to mature November 1, 1941, in the principal amount of 31,000.00. It is ordered that the report of Lola O +Quinn, Delinquent Tax Collector, be approved and ordered filed. It is ordered that the report of Inez Harrington, Register of Deeds, was approved and ordered filed. It is ordered that the report of W.D.Harrington, Tax Collector, be approved and ordered filed. It is ordered that the report of Howard Godwin, C.S.C., be approved and ordered filed. It is ordered that Lester Allen Ryals, be relieved 350.00 tax valuation on account of double listing of personal property in Duke Township for year 1940. It is ordered that Malcolm Dickens be given until January 1, 1941, as extension of time on his contract with the County to pay 335.00 payment due November 1, 1940 on W.W.Dickens Estate in Upper Little River Township, SD 2391 -A -1236. It is ordered that Mrs. R.H.MoLean be given 15 days extension of time to complete payment of contract with the County to re- purchase the B.F.Atkins land in Lillington Township, foreclosed under SD 1754 -A -1243. It is ordered that Mrs. Tiny Weathers be allowed release on valuation of 3295.00 on 1940 taxes in Hectors Creek Township, on account of the burning of one four -room house. It is ordered that a valuation of 3100.00 be placed on one lot 70 x 140, formerly belonging to W.J.Jones Estate, same being unlisted, and the Auditor is authorized to after -list the property 2as prescribed by law. It is ordered that J.L.Barnes of Grove Township, be allowed a rebate of $1.47 penalty for late listing because of error. It is ordered that Vess Suggs of Grove Township, be allowed a reduction of 3210.00 tax valuation shown on one fcxur -room building, on account of error in listing, there being no building on the property. It is ordered that J.A.Lyon of Barbecue Township, be relieved of 32.66 on account of error in excessive listing. 246 BE IT RESOLVED that the property on East Harnett Street, Dunn, N.C., formerly owned by William McAllister (colored), and acquired by the County of Harnett at tax foreclosure sale, under Judgment No 2051 -A -960, be sold to William McAllister - - -- for the total sum of $225.00, to be paid as follows: $75.00 cash; ;53,00 November 4, 1940; and $100.00 Dec. 1, 1940. The Chairmam of the Board is hereby authorized to execute deed to William McAllister, and the Clerk to the Board will attest same. BE IT RESOLVED, that the property consisting of 7.2 acres of land in Stewarts Creek Township, formerly listed to Alice Smith Estate, be sold to Arthur Smith (colored), Erwin, N.C. RFD 1 for the sum of `3125.00 payable as follows: 825.00 cash with this offer, and 50.00 November 1, 1941, and $50.00 November 1, 1942. The Chairman of the Board is hereby authorized to execute deed to Arthur Smith, and the Clerk will attest same. This property acquired by the County at tax foreclosure sale under Judgment No. SD 2160 -A -810. BE IT RESOLVED that the 162 acres of land in Upper Little River Township, formerly listed to Calvin Thomas, and acquired by the County of Harnett at tax foreclosure sale, under Ju.dgnent No. :SD 2388 -A -1331 be sold to. ----Calvin Thomas---- forothe total sum of $98.93. The Chairman of the is hereby authorized to execute deed to Calvin Thomas and the Clerk to Board will attest same. Board the The following road petition was presented -to the Board and ordered forwarded to the State Highway and Public Works Commission: (1) to construct and maintain an extension of the Rosser road from the home of J.B.Warwick to a point in the Johnsonville Road below the home of C.W.Hoard, a distance of approximately one and one -half miles. It is ordered that G.F.Bennett, Averasboro reduction of $350.00 in the tax valuation of a on account of being out of line with the value making the present value of $700.00 on lot and Township, be allowed a lot on West Broad Street, of surrounding property', X210.06 on the building.
