HomeMy WebLinkAbout06251940179 June 8, 1940 Upon call of Chairman J.B.Ennis, the Board of Commissioners met in Special Session, Saturday, June 8, 1940, for the purpose of nominating a County Agent and Assistant County Agent. All members were present. By unanimous vote of all members of the Board, Mr. C.R.Ammons was appointed County Agent, and Mr. Joe B.Gourlay was appointed Assistant County Agent, their respective terms of office to begin July 1, 1940, and end June 30, 1941. There being no further business to come before the meeting officially, the Board adjourned to re- convene Tuesday, June 25, 1940. Chairman Clerk. June 25, 1940 The Board of Commissioners met in a call session on Tuesday, June 25th. 1940, at 10:00 with Chairman J.B.Ennis and Commissioze rs R.L.Pate, A.A.Cameron, Ferd D.Jackson, and Lonnie R.Byrd present. Also County Attorney H.C.Strickland. The Board ordered that screens for the New Home Demonstration Curb Market in Dunn, be placed in building. The Board ordered that screens be bought for the County Jail. It is ordered that the official tax receipt for the year 1928, covering taxes on 45 acres of land and one lot in Lillington Township, be released unto A.N.Waddell, upon payment to the County of Harnett of the sum of $123.86, on or before June 30, 1940. Miss Lillie Davis, the Welfare Officer, presented to the Board, a detailed list showing commodities distributed in Harnett County for the year beginning July 1, 1939 and ending June 30, 1940, which report was accepted and ordered filed. Be it resolved that Miss Christine Odum be and she is hereby appointed Barnett County Home Demonstration Agent for the term beginning July 1, 1940 and ending June 30, 1941. Be it resolved that Horace S.Freeman be and he is hereby appointed Harnett County Auditor Accountant to fill the unexpired term of Mr.J.S.McLean, former Auditor, expiring the -2nd. day of December, 1940, the term to begin July 1, 1940, and official bond to be given in the sum of $10,000.00 to be approved by the Board. Be it resolved further that he continue as Tax Supervisor and that his compensation for these combined duties be fixed at $225.00 permonth. Be it resolved that Miss Lola OtQuinn be and she is hereby appointed Harnett County Delinquent Tax Collector for the term beginning July 1, 1940 and ending March 1, 1941, to serve at the pleasure of the Board. Be it further resolved that the Delinquent Tax Collector be and she is hereby designated as the collector of miscellaneous revenues for the County, including any taxes which may be pre -paid of the 1940 -41 levy between this date and October 6, 1940. Be it further resolved that the sums so collected as mentioned shall be daily deposited by the collector in the County Depositary, and that duplicate deposit slips evidencing such deposits be furnished to the County Accountant daily. The Board ordered that $10.00 per month be given to Mrs.Sarah Butler, Upper Little River Township, for the upkeep of an invalid son. (Mrs.Srah Butler c/o L.O.Patterson, Broadway, N.C.R -1). The Budget Estimate for the fiscal year 1940 -1941 was submitted by the County Accountant to the Board. It was ordered filed with the Clerk to the Board for public inspection, and it was also ordered that a summary of the estimate be published in the Harnett County News. The Board of Education presented its Budget requirements for the fiscal year 1940 -1941. It was ordered filed to be reviewed by the Accountant and Board of Commissioners pending final action with regard to its adoption.
