April 8, 1940.
The Board of Commissioners of Harnett County met in a call session on
Monday, April 8, 1940, with Chairman J.B.%nnis, and Commissioners R.L.Pate,
L.R.Byrd, A.A.Cameron and Ferd D.Jackson, present. Also County Attorney
H.C.Strickland was present; and Clerk to the Board, Inez Harrington.
It is ordered that Mrs.Felix Stewart of Grove Township, be relieved of
$11.31 tax for the year 1938 and year 1939, on account of error in listing.
The property was conveyed to L.O.Stephenson in 1937 and listed by him.
The Board appointed a Committee composed. of Ferd D.Jackson, R.L.Pate,
and J.B.Ennis, to investigate the tax valuation on property listed to
G.F.Pope, in the town of Dunn.
It is ordered that Douglas Holder of Grove Township, be relieved of
poll tax for the years 1939 and 1940, on account of physicial disability.
It is ordered that Willie B.Glover of Erwin, N.C. be granted beer license
for River View Station for the year 1940.
It is ordered that the 23 acres of land in Anderson Creek Township,
Harnett County, N.C., heretofore listed to J.D.Barney, and which was acquired
by the County of Harnett under tax foreclosure Judgment No. A -1119, be
quit - claimed to , W.E.Nichols upon payment to the County of Harnett
of $155.00; and upon payment of said sum to the County. The Chairman of the
Board of Commissioners is hereby authorized and directed to execute and
deliver deed to the said W.L.Nichols on behalf of the County, and the Clerk
to the Board will attest same.
It is ordered that Mrs.J.F.Dail, Dunn, N.C., be allowed a reduction in
value of $1750.00 on property on West Broad Street, in the town of Dunn,
for the year 1939, because of fire loss.
It is ordered that 5 acres of land, described in deed recorded in
Book 194, page 498, listed to V.L. Stephens Estate, near Fair aounds, in
Averasboro Township, be relieved of the lien of taxes due Harnett County,
for yearsprior to 1935, upon payment to the County of'allttaxes, penalties,
interest, and cost for the years 1935, 1936, 1937, 1938, and 1940; and
that henceforth said acreage be listed to Stephens Real Estate Company.
A request of Robert Lee Green for reduction in value of property of
Caro Spears Green Estate, in Lillington Township, was denied, the valuation
being in line with other property of same type.
BE IT RESOLVED that 15 acres cleared land of W.C.Johnson Estate, listed
at $80.00 per acre in reevaluation 1937, be reduced to $60.00 per acre, for
the years 1939 and 1940, and proper release be issued for said reduction of
300.00 for the yearn 1939 and proper
for the year 1940, and said 150 acres
be carried forward with $300.00 reduction in future.

The Board of Equalization and Review re- convened on Monday,April 8, 1940
