HomeMy WebLinkAbout01081940142 January 8, 1940. The Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, Jan.. 8, 1940, at 10:00 O'clock A.M. Those present were Commissioners A.A.Cameron, R.L.Pate, Ferd D.Jackson and L.R.Byrd; Chairman J.B.Ennis was absent. County Attorney H.O.Strickland was also present. The report of Howard Godwin, C.S.O. was approved and ordered filed. The report of ".'.Harrington, Tax Collector, was approved and ordered filed. An annual.reportwas filed by the - Register of Deeds, showing total receipts' for the last year of x;6,002.25, and the Board approved same and ordered it filed of record. The report of receipts by the Register. of Deedsefor the month of December,1939 was approved and ordered filed. It is ordered that Carolina Shaw (colored) be relieved of $400.00 tax valuation on her 2 acre property in Lillington Township, for the years 1937, 1938 and 1939, because of the house on the property having been burned. The Tax Supervisor will make the necessary adjustment. A financial statement of the office of the Clerk of Superior Court of Harnett County from December 5, 1938 to December 30, 1939, was received, approved, and ordered filed. It is ordered that the lot listed in the name of Henry C.Lee, located at 116 East Cumberland Street, Dunn, N.C., be listed for the years 1937, 1938 and 1939 at a value of $20.00 per front foot, or $560.00. It is ordered that the standing pine and poplar timber on the Old County Home property be sold to J.C.Byrd and Son, for $5.10 per thousand feet, log measure; to be cut and removed immediately, this being the best andhighest bid. Settlement to be made monthly at end of each month. The following road petition was.opresented and ordered forwarded to the State Highway and Public Works Commission: (1) To add to and maintain as a part of the maintenance system of Highways in Harnett County, the following road; In Grove Township, HarnettCounty, beginning at a point approximately 500 yards east of the Green Ford on the road leading from the Barclaysville- Benson Road, and running thence southerly to a point on the Coats - Bethel Road near the home of R.B.Grimes, a distance of approximately 2.3 miles. It is ordered that the property listed to Erwin- Patterson in Upper Little River Township, be reduced in tax valuation from $1600.00 to $1500.00, for the years 1939 and 1940. The Committee composed of R.L.Pate, L.R.Byrd and H.S.Freeman appointed by the Board to view and value the property. of Mrs. Alma F.Young Estate, in Averasboro Township, recommended the following: (1) The George Wood place: 30 acres @ $45.00, 30-acres @ ( 7.00• Building Total valuation-.
