HomeMy WebLinkAbout0807193969 August 7, 1939 The Board of Commissioners of Harnett County met in regular session on Monday, August 7, 1939, with Chairman J.B.Ennis and Commissioners R.L.Pate, Lonnie R.Byrd, Ferd D.Jackson and A.A.Cameron present. County Attorney H.C.Strickland was present also. Upon report made to the Board by the Clerk of the Superior Court showing unclaimed fees due jurors and witnesses and other sums in hand unclaimed by judgment creditors, TT IS ORDERED that said Clerk cause publication in the Harnett County News and the Dunn Dispatch to be made of the names and amounts so held by him remaining unclaimed. It is ordered that James D.Coats of Benson, be granted free pedlar's license for the year 1939 on account of being a disabled World War Veteran. The report of Inez Harrington, Register of Deeds, was approved and ordered filed. The report of Howard Godwin, Clerk of the Superior Court, was approved and ordered filed. The report of W.D.flarrington, Tax Collector, was approved and ordered filed. It is ordered that a telephone be installed in the office of the Farm Security Administration office. The County to pay the rent each month and the office to take care of the long distance calls. The following road petition was approved by the Board and ordered forwarded to The State Highway and Public Works Commission: " that to open up and work a road that connects the Shawtown Road with the Johnsonville Road and runs through a sub - division of the lands of Thomson and Spears on which is located six dwellings, a distance approximately 3000 ft." NORTH CAROLINA: Harnett County: RESOLUTION BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners of Harnett County, North Carolina, that they do hereby waive any penalties assessable under any and all contracts relating to the construction and equipment of the Harnett County Hospital, at Dunn, North Carolina, because of unavoidable delay in its completion, the final inspection of the project to be made Saturday, August 12, 1939. BE TT FURTHER RESOLVED that PWA be and it is hereby requested to acquiesce in a contract change extending the time of completion to August 12, 1939, and to waive any penalties otherwise assessable because of the said contracts, the project being numbered N.C. 1344 -F. It is ordered that the property acquired by the County of Harnett and Town of Dunn at tax foreclosure sale under Judgment No. 2009 -A -1040 for the sum of Five Hundred Twenty Five Dollars be conveyed to W.P.Surles 300 Johnson Street, Dunn, N.C. on the following terms and conditions: $25.00 cash with this offer, and $166.66 on Nov. 1, 1939; $166.66 an Nov. 1, 1940; and $166.67 on Nov. 1, 1941. first tract: 100 x 150 feet, North Clinton Street; second tract: 50 x 150 feet, Surles & North Magnolia Streets; fourth tieaet: 100 x 140 feet, North Magnolia and Surles Street; fifth tract: 60 x 175 feet, North Clinton Street; one lot 75 x 140 feet, North Clinton Street; see Book 231, page 126; and Book 239, page 88; and the Chairman of the Board and Clerk to the Board are hereby authorized to execute deed on behalf of the County, to W.P.Surles. It is ordered that the property acquired by the County of Harnett at tax foreclosure sale under Judgment No. 1911 -A -921 for the sum of Fifty Nine Dollars be conveyed to Martha A.Lee Dunn, N.C. RFD 5, on the following terms and conditions: $50.00 cash with this offer. Being 10.35 acres land in Averasboro Township, adjoining the lands of J.A.Byrd and W.P.Griffin and formerly listed by Dennison H.Lee. The Chairman of the Board and Clerk to the Board are hereby authorized to execute deed on behalf of the County to Martha A.Lee. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that The Federal Emergency Administration.of Public Works be and it is hereby requested to acquiesce in and lend its approval to the granting of an extension of time from July 20, 1939 until August 20, 1939, to the contractors on Ham ett County Hospital at Dunn, N.C., it being PWA Project No. 1344 -F N.C., within which time to complete said project. 1 71 BE TT RESOLVED that the County Tax Collector proceed to advertise and sell the real estate owned by tax payers in Harnett County, taxes on which have not been paid for the year 1938, said sale to be held as provided by law on the 4th. day of September 1939, it being the first Monday in said month. BE TT FURTHER RESOLVED that the advertisement of said sale be published once a week for four successive weeks preceding the date of sale, by inserting notice of such sale in a newspaper, and posting copies thereof at the courthouse door and other public places. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County 'Pax Collector make diligent effort to collect as much of said delinquent 1938 taxes as is possible between now and said sale date. Against adoption: None.
