HomeMy WebLinkAbout0710193966 t July 10th. 1939 The Board of Commissioners of Harnett County met on July 10th. 1939 at 10:00 A.M. with Chairman J.B.Ennis present and Commissioners R.L.Pate, Lonnie R. Byrd, Ferd D.Jackson and A.A.Cameron also present. County Attorney, H.C. Strickland, was present. Reid Ross, Assistant County Superintendent of Schools and Board of Education, appeared before the Board and presented the proposed School Budget for the term 1939- 1940, which was adopted and ordered filed. Be it resolved that the Chairman of the Board execute on behalf of the County, a contract with Glenn Brantley to convey to him the property acquired by the County under Judgments No. A -851, A -841, A -843, A -844 and A -802 for 8500.00, to be paid $100.00 cash and $22.23 monthly beginning July 1, 1939, plus taxes for the year 1939. It is ordered that $850.00 be and is hereby appropriated for the year 1939-1940 for the Forest Fire Control in Harnett County. Be it resolved that the First - Citizens Bank and Trust Company of Dunn, N.C. be and it is hereby authorized to honor checks on Old Age Assistance Furl. and Aid to Dependent Children Fund executed with the facsimile signatures of the Chairman and Secretary of the Board of Welfare, bearing - signature of County Accountant or the Assistant County Accountant. Miss Ruth Currant, State Supervisor of County Demonstration Agents, appeared before the Board and announced that Miss Isabel Moseley, recently nominated as Harnett County Home Demonstration Agent, was unable to serve. Thereupon, Commissioner Byrd nominated Miss Wilma Williams of Harnett County for appointment to the position, and being seconded by Commissioner Jackson, Miss Williams was unanimously nominated as Harnett County Home DemonstrationcAgent to succeed Miss Naomi Carr, present agent, whose term expires August 21, 1939. WHEREAS, there is a double listing of a tract of land in Barbecue Township the facts being as follows: T.C.McFarland lists 21 acres of land the same having been listed by the said T.C.McFarland's predessors in title for a number of years. The identical property is listed by M.F.Wicker as 19 acres and has been listed by M.F.Wicker's predessors in title for a number of years. The said M.F.Wicker and his predessors in title have paid the tax on the 19 acres of land to and including the year 1938. The said T.C.McFarland has allowed his taxes to become in default and now the said taxes of McFarland amount to 884.85, including the year 1938. NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Board of County Commissioners of Harnett County that the Auditor is hereby authorized to credit the taxes of T.C.McFarland with 19/21 of the assessed taxes, this being the amount that M.F.Wicker has paid. This July 10, 1939. It is ordered that beer license be granted to Mrs.Mike Rose at Mike's Place in East Erwin, N.C. The report of Howard Godwin, C.S.C. was approved and ordered filed. The report of Inez Harrington, Reg. of Deeds, was approved and ordered filed. The report of W.D.Harrin gton, Tax Collector, was approved and ordered filed. Due and payable on the 15th. day of each month and the Chairman of the Board and Clerk to the Board are hereby authorized to execute deed on behalf of the County to Charity McKay. Resolved that the property acquired by the County of Harnett and the Town of Dunn at tax foreclosure sale under Judgment No. 1924 A -1022, be conveyed to ----Oscar Willis (12 Green Row, Coatesville, Pa.) fot the total sum of i444.81 on the following terms: $50.00 cash with this offer, and $10.00 per month until paid. Due and payable on the 16th. day of each month and the Chairman of the Board and Clerk to the Board are hereby authorized to execute deed on. behalf of the County to Oscar Willis. Resolved that the property acquired by the County of Harnett at tax foreclosure sale under Judgment No. A -940 be conveyed to - - -- Novella Byrd - -- for the total cost of $100.68 on the following terms and conditions: $25.68 cash with this offer and the balance of $75.00 on Oct. 15, 1939, and the Chairman of the Board and Clerk to the Board are hereby authorized to execute deed on behalf of the County to Novella Byrd. Resolved that the property acquired by the County of Harnett at tax foreclosure sale under Judgment No. A -1252 be conveyed to G.H.White for the total cost of $194.74 on the following terms: $10.00 cash with this offer and $15.00 on or before August 12, 1939, $100.00 Oct. 1, 1939, and balance on or before Nov. 15, 1939, and the Chairman of the Board and Clerk to the Board are hereby authorized to execute deed on behalf of the County to G.H.White. Resolved that the lot on S. Railroad & S.Fayetteville Streets in town of Dunn, described in Book 245, page 616, acquired by the County of Harnett and thw Town of Dunn, at tax foreclosure sale under Judgment No. 2006 A- 1038, and William McK.Pearsall offers to purchase from Harnett County said land for the total sum of $338.56 on the following terms: $338.56 cash with this offer and the Chairman of the Board and Clerk to the Board are hereby authorized to execute deed to Sash Door and Millwork Co. Inc. It is ordered that the County of Harnett hereby demises, leases and farm -lets to - -- -James D.McAuley - - -- all that farm or those tracts of land situate in Barbecue Township and described as follows: 15 acres of land which was formerly owned by James McAuley and bougat by the County of Harnett under tax Judgment No. A -999, for the term of one year from January 1, 1939, to December 31, 1939, for the sum of 525.00, cash to be paid on or before first day of November, 1939. The County Accountant submitted the tenative 1939 -1940 Budget for all county purposes, except for Schools, and the same was ordered filed for inspection as provided by law. The Commissioners convened as the Board of Equalization, and recessed to reconvene August 21, 1939, at 10:00 A.M. The following road petitions were approved and ordered forwarded to State Highway and Public Works Commission: (1) to remove the dangerous in the curve on that road from Broadway and Swann Station at a point between the homes of R.L.Thomas and W.J.McDonald, a distance of 75 yards. (2) build up and maintain the old road leading from the Johnsonville road where the New school road intersects same, being near Arch McPherson residence, leading near the residence of A.C.Cameron, J.A.Hanilton, M.F.McKay and others, to the old Shepard Road near the Harnett and Hoke line.
