HomeMy WebLinkAbout0623193963 June 23, 1939 The Board of Commissioners of Harnett County met in a call session Friday, June 23, 1939 at 3:00 P.M. with Chairman J.B.Ennis, and Commissioners R.L.Pate, Lonnie R.Byrd and Ferd D.Jackson present. Commissioner A A Cameron was absent at this meeting. County Attorney, H.C.Strickland, was also present. The Board approved the bond of B.E.Sturgill, constable of Grove Township, and the same was ordered recorded and placed on file in the office of Clerk of Superior Court. 'KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS: That B.E.Sturgill as principal, hereinafter called principal, and the New Amsterdam Casualty Company, a corporation of the State of New York, as Surety, hereinafter called surety, are held and firmly bound unto the State of North Carolina, in the penalty of - -One thousand and no /100 Dollars -- to the payment whereof, well and truly to be made and done, the said Principal and Surety bind themsleves, their heirs, executors, administrators, successors and assigns, jointly and severally, firmly by these presents: Signed, sealed and dated this 6 day of June, 1939. The condition of the foregoing obligation is such, that whereas, the said Principal has been elected or appointed to the office of Constable of Grove Township, Barrett County, North Carolina, for the term beginning December 5, 1938 and ending December 5, 1940. Now, therefore, if the said principal shall well and faithfully perform, according to law, all and singular the duties incumbent upon him by reason of his election or appointment to the said office, then this obligation shall be null and void; otherwise to be and remain in full force and virtue. Jackson, C.R.Ammons was appointed Farm Agent for Harnett County for a term of one year; and Joe B.Gourlay was appointed Assistant Farm Agent for Harnett County for a term of one year. The following applicants were granted beer licenses: (1) J.G.Lee, Erwin, N.C. at Lee's place. (2) A.J.Collins, Lillington, N.C.R -1 at Cape Fear Service Station. (3) Geo.R.Joseph, Dunn, N.C. at Crystal Cream and Candy Company. (4) Ralph Eugene Dupree, Lillington, N.C. at Farmer's Cafe. (5) George Cegielkowski, Dunn, N.C., at George's Place. (6) C.E.Avery at Erwin, N.C. at Shug's. Upon motion of Commissioner Jackson, seconded by Commissioner Pate, the Board indicated its willingness to provide a helper to assist in the eradicating of Bang's Disease, thus making available to the County the service offered by the State and Federal Governments to cattle owners. Voting affirmatively: Commissioners Byrd, Jackson, Page; Negatively: None. Upon motion duly seconded, the Board unanimously approved an order tentatively drafted to be signed by Judge Clawson L.Williams, Resident Judge of the Fourth Judicial District, permitting the County offices and officials and employees to observe July 3 and July 4, along with State Employees, in commemoration of the Declaration of Independence of this Nation.
