HomeMy WebLinkAbout07031950599 1 JULY 3. 1950 The Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Monday July ,3, 1950 with all members present. Also present were the County Attorney, County Auditor and Clerk to the Board. The monthly report of L. M. Chaffin, C. S. C., was approved and ordered filed. The monthly report of D. P. Ray, Tax Collector,was approved and ordered filed. The monthly report of Inez Harrington, Register of Deeds, also report of' second quarter of marriage license was approved and ordered filed. The report of' L. B. McLean, Veteran Officer, was approved and ordered filed. Commissioner Gregory moved seconded by Commissioner Fields that all the Clerical employees in the County who have been serving in the County for a year or more be raised to a monthly salary of $125.00. Motion carried. Commissioner Fields moved, seconded by Commissioner Gregory that the contract for auditoring the County Offices be given to Thurman Ennis, Dunn, N. C., at a cost of $1200.00. Voting for Fields, Gregory and Tysinger. Voting against Commissioner Senter. Commissioner Tysinger moved, seconded by Commissioner Fields that the tax rate in Harnett County be set at a $1.30 tax valuation. Voting for Tysinger, Fields and Gregory. Voting against Commissioner Senter.. Dr. W. D. Hunter and Dr. Parker appeared before the Board and presented the County Health Budget for the year 1950 -51. The Board deferred action until Friday July 7th at which time more information will be available from the State Office. Commissioner Senter moved seconded by Commissioner Gregory that D. P. Ray,Jr. be and he is hereby appointed Tax Collector for a term ending June 30, 1951. Motion carried .unanimous. Commissioner Gregory moved, seconded by Commissioner Tysinger that C. R. Amnions be and he is hereby appointed County Farm Agent for a term of 1 year - voting for: Tysinger, Fields and Gregory-voting against: Commissioner Senter Commissioner Fields moved seconded by Commissioner Tysinger that T. D. O'Quinn be and he is hereby appointed Asst. County Agent for a term of 1 year. Motion carried unanimous. Commissioner Gregory moved, seconded by Commissioner Fields that Miss Loraine Vail be and she is hereby appointed Home Demonstration Agent for Harnett County for a period of 1 year. Motion unanimous. Commissioner Tysinger moved, seconded by Commissioner Fields, that Miss Lela Huntley be and she is hereby appointed Asst. Home Agent for a period of 1 year. Motion carried unanimous. Commissioner Fields moved seconded by Commissioner Tysinger that L. K. Boston be and he is- hereby appointed Negro Farm Agent for a period of 1 year. Motion carried unanimous. Commissioner Tysinger moved, seconded by Commissioner Fields that Ids Hinnant be and she is hereby appointed Negro Home Demonstration Agent for a period of 1 year. Motion carried unanimous. Commissioner Tysinger moved, seconded by Commissioner Fields that Lee Burt McLean be and he is hereby appointed Veteran Service Officer for a term of 1 year. Motion carried unanimous. The following road petitions were approved to be hardsurfaced in Harnett County and ordered sent to the State Highway and Public Works Commission: (1) That certain road in Lillington Township leading from Wilborns Store on 15A to N. C. Highway No. 210 Southeast of Lillington a distance of 2.9 miles. (2) That certain road in Averasboro Township which runs from Highway 301 to the Jonesboro road a distance of 1 mile (gravel to be furnished by property owner C. J. Hanna and Son, top soil with Sand asphalt) The following road petitions for community roads were approved by the Board of Commissioners and ordered forwarded to the State Highway and Public works commission. (1) That certain road leading off of the Lillington- Christian Light Highway just north of Hector's Creeks nd running westerly a distance of 1.5 miles and re- entering said Lillington- Christian Light Highway at the residence of Mr. E. M. Blanchard and being in Buckhorn Township. goo (2) For state Maintainance a piece ofroad leading from the Coakesbary, Macodina road via J. E. Bolts Farm,Macks Stephens Farm and the John Brown Farm now owned by John Prince a so 11.0. Austin land ending at F. A. Burns and A. C. Bakers Farms this piece of 18.3 tenths of a mile long, and being in Buckhorn Township. (3) lb build and maintain a public road in Johnsonville Township said road to begin at Harry Cameron's on the old Plank road and runs thence South through the lands of R. E. Marshburn, Willie McKay Parrish and Banter, et als. a distance of approximately three miles to Cyprus Church. The following road petions for County Roads were approved and ordered forwarded to the State Highway and Public Works Cofnmission. (1) Beginning at a point southeast of U. S. #30 on the County Road leading from Mary Stewart School near Mrs. J. S. Neighbors and runs as an-old road about 1.9 miles to the Dunn- Peacock Cross roads -road near Carl Webb and being in Averasboro Township. (2) To open up repair and maintain for travel that stretch of the old McAllister abandoned public road at its intersection with State Highway #210 at or near ,Mrs. J. W. Giles, some 4 miles Southwest from Angier and running thence northerly-and as the old McAllister Road, over the lands of Mrs J, 0. McLeod, B.A. Woodall, and others and also running from a point north of' Mrs.. L. B. Barbour's residence -to the crossroads on the Angier - Chalybeate Road at a point 2 miles west of Angier, known as the old Raleigh- McAllister Road, covering a distance of approximately 1 3/4 miles. (Two petitions cover this road) - RESOLUTION BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners of Harnett County that the following'budget, for the fiscal year 1950 -51, be and the same is hereby adopted and the tax levy for the said fiscal year is hereby appropriated: General; Poor and Health 251,750.00 Old Age Assistance Aid to Dependent Children Bond Fund SCHOOL FUND Current Expense Capital Outlay ' Debt Service Township Road Fur,i Special District No. 2 Averasboro Township Approved July 3, 1950.
