HomeMy WebLinkAbout03061950571 The Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Monday March 6 with all members present also present were the County attorney and Clerk to the Board. The report of Howard Godwin, C S C, was approved and ordered filed. The report of Inez Harrington, Register of Deeds, was approved and ordered filed. The report of D. P. Ray, Jr., Tax Collector was approved and ordered filed. The report of L. B. McLean, Service Officer, was approved and ordered filed. J. A. Senter moved, seconded by C. G. Fields, that the County allow an increase from 320.00 to 330.00 per month allowance for Alton Stewart, Dunn #3, Averasboro Township on account of physical disability. Motion carried. Carson Gregory, seconded by C. G. Fields, that C. L. Wade, Erwin, N. C. be admitted to the County Home. Motion carried. It is ordered by the Board that Monroe Cameron, Barbecue Township, be released of poll taxes permanently on account of physical disability. J. A. Senter moved seconded by Carson Gregory that the County convey to William McKay Pearsall of Dunn, N. C., all of its interest in the eastern one half of that 140' x 1501 lot on South McKay Avenue and West Conary Street in the Town of Dunn acquired by Harnett County under Judgment A -1038, upon the payment of one -half of the 1948 and 1949 taxes due on said lot, this being the amount necessary to complete fullfillment of the contract of purchase heretofore entered into with William McKay Pearsall by Harnett County as to one half of said lot. This property was conveyed to Harnett County as the First Tract by deed recorded in Book 247, Page 287, and the eastern one -half thereof is the portion allotted to William McKay Pearsall in S.P. #3186 by Report of Commissioners recorded in Book 313, Page 463. Said motion was unanimously passed and the Chairman was authorized to execute deed, attested by the Clerk, conveying said lot to Pearsall upon compliance by him with the terms of this order. Upon request of Berlea Johnson, Tax Supervisor, the Board set the date of Monday March 27, at 10:00 A M for the Board to sit as a Board of Equalization and Revenue. The Board of Commissioners appointed C. G. Fields as a member of the welfare Board to serve a term of 3 years. Harnett County KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS, that I, L. M. Chaffin, Clerk of Superior Court of Harnett County, North Carolina, do hereby acknowledge having received of Hon. Howard Godwin, my immediate predecessor in office, the sum of Sixty -six Thousand, Seventy -nine and 69/100 Dollars 066,079.69), represented by funds on deposit in Bank of Lillington, Lillingtbn, North Carolina; The Commercial Bank, Dunn, North Carolina; and First Citize Bank and Trust Company, Dunn, North Caroliha, as said sum is classified and set out and reflected in the audit report submitted to Hon. L. A. Tart, Sr., Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of Harnett County this day. The said sum referred to herein is accepted by the undersigned as final accounting with my immediate predecessor in office as Clerk of Superior Court of Harnett County. This, the 6th day of March, 1950. L. M. Chaffin Clerk of Superior Court of Harnett County. WHEREAS, Honorable Howard G. Godwin, heretofore Clerk of the Superior Court of Harnett County, has resigned said office as of February 28, 1950, in order to accept appoint- ment as a Special Superior Court Judge, and Honorable L. M. Chaffin has been duly appointed to fill the office of Clerk of the Superior Court, and WHEREAS, at the request of the Board of Commissioners, a full and complete audit of the accounts of the office of the Clerk of Superior Court has been had, which audit covers the records of said office through February 28, 1950, and was prepared by Thurman C. Ennis, C.P.A. of Dunn, North Carolina, and WHEREAS, the said Thurman C. Ennis, C.P.A. has filed the Report of said Audit with the Board of Commissioners of Harnett County this day, which Report shows the records' and accounts of said office to be in due and proper form and regular in every respect; and said audit further shows that all receipts and disbursements of said office from July 1, 1949 to February 28th, 1950, have been properly accounted for; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the said Howard G. Godwin and the surety of his bond by discharged and released from any liability under thesurety bond issued for the year 1949 -1950; AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, And is is hereby ordered, that the records and accounts of said office by transferred to Honorable L. M. Chaffin, Clerk of Superior Court of Harnet County, and it is further ordered that all funds belonging to the Office of Clerk of Superior Court of Harnett County, whether on deposit or not, be transferred forthwith to the account of L. M. Chaffin, as Clerk of the Superior Court of Harnett County. The foregoing resolution was introduced by Commissioner Fields.
