JANUARY 1950:
The Board of Commissioners of Harnett County net in regular session Jan. 2,
1950 with Commissiorr rs Tart, Tysinger, Gregory and Senter being present. C. G.
Fields was absent. Also present was the County Attorney and the Clerk to the Bard.
The report of Inez Harrington, Register of Deeds was approved and ordered filed.
The report of Duncan F. Ray,Jr., Tax Collector was approved and ordered filed.
The report of L B McLean veteran Service Office was approved and ordered filed.
The report of Howard Godwin, C S C was a proved and ordered filed.
The Board approved bond of Herbert D Carson,Jr. Auditor and Collector of Pre-
payment taxes in the amount of $10,000.00 and ordered filed with Clerk Superior
Court.

KNOW ALL MEN BY PHESE iR.CSENTS, That Herbert D. Carson,Jr., as Principal
(hereinafter called Pincipal) and the Maryland Casualty Co., a corporation of
the State of Maryland, having its principal office in the City of Baltimore,
Maryland, as Surety, (hereinafter called Surety) are held and firmly bound unto the
Board of County Commissioners, HarnettCounty,N.d. (hereinafter called Obligee) in
the penalty of Ten Thousand and no /100 Dollars (410,000.00) to the payment whereof,
well and truly to be made and done, the said Principal binds himself, his heirs,
executors and administrators, and the said Surety bindsitself, its successors and
assigns, jointly and severally, firmly by these presents.
THE ^NDITION 07 THE AFOREGOING OBLIGATION IS SUCH THAT WHER�.EAS, the said
Principal was elected or appointed County Auditor and Accountant and Collector of
prepayment taxes for the term beginning on the 2nd day of December 1949, and ending
on the 2nd day of December 1950.
NOW THEREFORE, if the said Principal shall during the term of t'-'s bond, well
and faithfully perform all and singular the duties incumbent upon him by reason of
his election or appointment to said office, except as hereinafter limited, and
honestly account for all moneys coming into his hands, according to law, then this
obligation shall be null and void; it it otherwise to be and remain in full force
and virtue.
THIS BOND is executed by the Surety upon the following express conditions,
which shall be conditions precedent to the right of recovery hereunder;
IT IS MUTUALLY UNDE'. -STOOD AND AGREED BETWEEN ALL PARTIES HERETO, that if the
Surety shall so elect, this bond may be cancelled by giving thirty (30) days'
notice in writing to the said Obligee and this bond shall be deemed cancelled at
the expiration of said thirty (30) days, the said Surety remaining liable for all
or any act or acts covered by this bond which may have been committed by the
Principal up to the date of such cancellation, under the terms, conditions and
provisions of this bond, and the Surety shall upon surrender of this bond and its
release from all liability thereunder, refund the premium paid, less a pro rata
part thereof, for the time this bond shall have been in force.
And it is further mutually understood and agreed between all the parties
hereto, that the said surety shall not be liable to said Obligee for any loss
resulting to said Obligee by reason of any public moneys being now on general or
special deposit or hereafter placed on general or special deposit by or on behalf
of the said Principal, with any bank, depository, depositoties, or by reason
of the allowance to or acceptance by said Principal of any interest thereon, any
Law, Decision, Statute, or Ordinance to the contrary notwithstanding.

and that the total liability of the Maryland Casualty Company under the attached

The Board granted Inez Harrington Register of Deeds permission to have the 1949
vital statistics for the year 1949 bound into binders for permanent record.
J A Senter moved, seconded by Carson Gregory that L M Chaffin be and he is
hereby appointed Vice Recorder for Harnett County for a term of 1 yr.
The board received check in the amount of $207.50 from the Moff Iron and Metal
Co., Dunn,N.C. to be turned into the County fund. This amount realized from the sale
of scrap copper.
Carson Gregory moved seconded by Senter that the values to be used for listing
automobiles for 1950 shall be the base value shown'in the January 1, 1950 issue of
Nati m al Used Car Red Book and the value for Trucks shall be the cash value plus
10 per cent.
George W Edwards was granted free peddlers license for the year 1949 1950 by
reason of physical disability received in World War 1.
Albert Oldham was relieved of poll tax for 1950 by reason of physical disability.
Be it resolved by the Board of Commissioners of Harnett County; That the First
Citizens Bk & Tr Co of Dunn,N.C. be and the same hereby is designated as the
official depositary for all funds collected by Duncan P Ray Jr Harnett County,Tax
Collector, and that the said Duncan P Ray Jr Tax Collector shall deposit daily all
amounts collected by him in the First Citizens Bk & Tr 'Co of Dunn,N.C. to the credit
of Harnett County Tax Distribution Account, and that the said depository shall issue
daily to said Tax .Collector a receipt for such deposits and said receipts shall
thereupon be delivered daily to the Harnett County Accountant; and that upon
compliance with the terms of this resolution the said Tax Collector and his surety
on his official bond shall be relieved of further nobility for such amounts or sum
as may be deposited in said depository.
The Board of Commissioners will mee on Wed. Jan 25, 1950 with the Dunn Town
Board in Dunn at 7:30 P M to discuss tax matters.
