The board of Commissioners met in regular session =Monday, August 1, 1949 at
10:00 A M with all memebers present, Also present were County Atturney, the "uaitor and
clerk to Board.
The report of Howard God,vin^i, Ulerk Superior Court was presented and ordered filed
The report of Inez Harrington, Register of Deeds, was presented and ordered
filed.
The report of Mrs Ev'dlyn Cranford, 4cring Tax Collector, was presented and
ordered filed.
The report of Harnett County Library was presented and ordered flied.
The report of Loraine Vail, Home Demonstration Agent was presented and ordered
filed.
The report of L B McLean, Service Officer, was presented and ordered filed.
C G Fields moved seconded by Ca son Gregory, that Commissioner L A Tart be
authorized to investigate on the order to purchase by Max McLeoa of Certain lots in
tneTown or Dunn and report his findings to the Board at the next meeting. Motion carri
The Boar° ordered that James F Davis, of thehhompson Insurance Uompany be release
or the Tax Valuation of as placed on the Lots on Ross road in the Town of Lillington
for theyear 1948 -49 and listed to Fred Cash and his wife on account of destruction by
fire of the dwelling and garage.
J A Senter moved, sec nded by Carson Gregory that Count Attorney be instructed
to obtain a compete list or all properties acquired by Harnett County in tax forclosur
preceeding not heretofore disposed of ffi,hd that he ascertain who is in possession of suc
properties, and wheater or not the County has heretofore entered into a contractto dis-
pose of such properties, and report his f °ndings to the B -ad. Motion Carried
J A Senter moved, seconded by Tysinger, that an advertisement be run in each
County Newspaper for one issue in order to notify the operators of each gas tank in
Harnett County that the County Tax Collector is hereby authorised to collect taxes
for the operation of each and every gas tank in Harnett County. Motion Carried
J A Senter introduced the Following resolution:
Whereas theBoard of Commissioners are of the opinion that the licensing of
Carnival Companies and '"bows of a like character, incl ding mowing pictures and
Vauaeville shows, Museums, and Megageries, Merry to rounds and Ferris Wheels and like
amusements, enterprised conaucted for profit under the same management and filling week
stand engagements or weekstand exhibitions, whetner under Canvas or not, *111 endanger
the public welfare of Harnett County; and
Whereas, the Board of Commissioners of Barnett County are authorized by the provi
of P S 153 -10 as amended to direct the tax Collector to tbfuse to issue license to such
Carmtval Companies and snows of like character as above mentioned;
Now, therefore, be it resolved that by the Board ofCommisstoners that theTax
Collerctor of harnett County bem and is horebtm directed not to issue license to any
such carnival Uomnany or snow of like characteras here in named, filling week -end engag
ments or in giving week -stand exhibitions, whether under canvas or not.
Upon motion or Mr Fields, seconded by Mr Senter, the foregoing resolution was
adopted with Co missToners, Senter, Fields, andTysinger voting for the resolution.
Comm`ssioner Gregory voted against the adoptton of the Resmiution.

Whereas the untimely death of Former Governor J C B EErwghais has b wan Called to
the attention of the Board, and
Whereas we feel that in his dealth the state has lost one or its most outstanding
statesmen and one of its greatest governors
Now, therefore, out of respect for Mr Erwghaisand in recongnition of the noble wa
in which he served his state throughout his adult life we do hereby recess this meetin
