Johnson, Tax Collector, was approved and ordered filed. report of Inez Harrington, register of Deeds, was approved and ordered filed. report of Howard Godwin, Clerk of Superior Court was approved and ordered The report of L B McLean, Veterans Service Officer, was approved and ordered filed. The Board granted free peddler's license to Bronco West; Erwin,N.C., to sell produce in Harnett County, on account of his physical disability for a period endin g June 30, 1950. C. G. Fields moved, seconded by- Carson Gregory, that $30.00 per month be allowed for the family of Erwin McLamb for the months of May and June. The motion carried. Carson Gregory moved, seconded by Paul Tysinger that the Board acceiRt the regignation of M A Taylor, Constable in Johnsonville Township, to'take effect immediately. Motion carried. C. G. Fields moved, seconded by Carson Gregory, that no inmate of the County Home be paid for any work done by them the the County. Motion carried. C G Fields moved, second ed by Carson given free peddler's license on account Motion carried. C G Fields moved,. seconded by Carson public accountant, be employed to audit year ending Jute 300 1949 and be paid a be Gregory, that Clyde Marks, Cameron #2, be of physical disability ending June, 1950. Gregory, that Thurman C. Ennis, Dunn, N.C., the Harnett county Offices for the fiscal fee of $1,200.00. Motion carried. Carson Gregory moved-, seconded by Paul lysinger, that the flags in the courtroom replaced by new flags. Motion carried. C. G. Fields moved, seconded by Carson Gregory that the Board of Commissioners approve in the next years school budget an item for the purchase of additional land for Angier School from Mrs Melba Gregory Brynildson, not to exceed $1700.00 voting for were C G Fields and Carson Gregory. Voting against were John A. Senter Tysinger and Tart. C G Fields moved, seconded by Carson Gregory that the Carolina Blue Printers, Raleigh,N.C. be authorized to photostat all maps in Maps Books Nos. 4, 5 and 6 of Harnett County Registry at a cost of $940.00. This cost to include two binders. And all future maps be photostated and paid for by the person having the map recorded at a rate of $2.75 each. The 02.00 to cover the cost of the photostats and .75 the cost of the recording fees. Voting for Fields, Gregory and Tysinger, Voting against Senter. C G Fields moved,.:seconded by Paul Tysinger,that Jessie L Morris be granted free Beer license by reason of the fact that he is blind. Voting for Field s, Tysinger and Gregory. Voting against: Senter. Commissioner Senter moved, seconded by Commissioner Fields, that Harnett County, quitclaim unto Myrtice McLean Massey any arty all interest that it may have in a lot situated on East Cleveland and North Elm Street in the Town of Dunn, being a lot 41 by 120 feet and being the same .property acquired at a tax foreclosure sale for the non payment of taxes under Judgement No A 1092, upon the payment of the sum of $242.91, the same being the total taxes, interest and penalty accured against the said property and upon further condition that Myrdice McLean Massey list said property and pay taxes assessed against it for the calendar year 1949 and succeeding years. The CChairman of the Board is hereby authorized to execute and deliver a deed conveying the County's interest in the said property to the said Myrtice McLean Massey, and the Clerk to the Board will attest same. Motion carried. 50 Carson Gregory moved, seconded by C G Fields and voted unanimous. Inasmuch as Governor Scott has called a State wide Special Election to be held Saturday, June 4 1949, and it appearing that a recent Special Election in the 12th Senatorial District of North Carolina, necessitated additional expense on the part of Harnett County and resulted in the exhaustion of appropriated funds for the purpose of elections in the County: The County Accountant is hereby authorized and directed to expend from unencumbered balances the requisite amount to conduct the Special State wide election to determine the wishe of the voters of Harnett County in respect of the issurnce of $200,000,000. Road Bonds and $25 000,000. School Building and repair bonds, the cost of which is to be refunded to Harnett County by the State. Voting affirmatively: Commissioners Gregory, Fields, Senter and Tysinger. Against: None. The following road petitioner were approved and ordered forwarded to the State Highway and Public Works Commission: (1) That certain road in Stewarts Creek Township, and runs from K F Coleman's store to Sam Byrd's farm at Pete McLeans and is known as the Byrd and Elliott Road, a distance of approximately 1.4 miles, requesting that the road be pulled up with good ditches and no top soil will be necessary. (2) That road in Stewarts Creek Township, running from C A Stricklaml's store on Highway 15 A to K F Coleman's store on the Wire road and known as the Byrd and Parker Rodd, a distance of 1.9 miles, requesting that to pull side ditches and give a good crown, no top soil necessary. (3) To make an all weather road that road from a point on the old Wire road at Joe and Mack Williams home in Black River Township, to the Harnett Johnson County road at C M Dupree's store a distance of 2.9 miles. (4) Requesting that the Parker Hill Creek curve the homr d road lead ngdffrom od J D Champion's estate in Buckhorn Township to J D Weathers straightened. (5) To grade and treat with an all weather surface that certain road in Western Harnett County beginning at the end of the present hard surface road at Barbecue Church, and running thence along the present Johnsonville Road passing Pineview and crossing the Sanford Manchester Highway, and continuing along said Johnsonville Road to the Mt Pleasant Road near D Cameron's filling station, and then continuing along the Mt Pleasant Road to the Hoke County line at Oscar Wootten's farm, a total distance of approximately 12 miles. River Stewart's Creek Lillington Averasboro Lillington The following resolution was introduced and unanimously adopted: Whereas Sept. 29, 1945, Ed W Holden entered into a contract under terms of which Harnett County would convey to him whatever interest it may have acquired in a certain lot situated on the South side of East Broad Street in the Town of Dunn under Judgment No. A 1078, upon payment of the sum of $450.00 payable $100. cash and at the rate of $12.50 per month thereafter until the full sum is paid. Whereas the said Ed W Holden, has fully complied with the terms of the said contract and made payments therein required to be made. Now therefore, it is ordered that Harnett County convey whatever interest it may have in the said property to Ed W Holden and the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners Is hereby authorized to execute and deliver deed to Ed W Holden and the Clerk to the Board will attest same. Be it resolved by the Board of Commissioners of Harnett County That the First Citizens Bank & Tr Co., of Dunn, N.C. be and the same hereby is designated as the official depository for all funds collected by Robert S. Johnson, Harnett County Tax Collector, and that the said Robert S Johnson,_ Tax Collector, shall deposit daily all amounts collected by him in the First Citizens Bank and Trust Co., of Dunn,N.C. to the nredit of Harriett County Tax Distribution Account,'and that the said depository shall issue daily to said Tax Collector .a receipt, for such deposits and said receipts shall thereupon be delivered daily to the Harn*tt County Accountant; and that upon compliance with the terms of this resolution the said Tax Collector and his surety on his official bond shall be relieved of further liability for such amounts or 'sum as may be deposited in said depository. Miss Wilma Williams, Superintendent of Welfare appeared before the Board and presented the estimated budget for the year 1949 -50 Total annual salaries $23,880.00 Mileage 2,400.00 Total office expenses Expense of Board members attending Grand total for administration 1,750.00 220.00 28,250.00 The Board rejected the budget as presented by Miss Williams and Commissioner Senter moved, seconded by Gregory, that the estimated budget be approved as of last year 1948 -49. Voting for Gregory, Senter, and Tysinger, Voting against: Fields. Motion carried.
