The Board of Commissioners of Harnett County met in a call session on Friday,
March 4th at 9:45 A. M. Present were L. A. Tart, Chairman, C. G. Fields and Carson
Gregory, also present were the County Attorney and Clerk to the Board
Commissioner Fields moved seconded by Commissioner Gregory that the following
minutes be recorded on the minute book of the County Commissioners. Motion carried.
The Board of Commissioners met in the Commissioners' meeting room in special
session on Wednesday afternoon, February 23, 1949, at 3:30 P.M., with the following
present: Chairman L. A. Tart, and Commissioners Fields, Gregory, Senter and Tysinger.
County Attorney T. A. Johnson was present also.
This meeting was called by the Chairman at the request of Honorable George
Coble, Sixth Division Highway Commissionerifor the purpose of discussing the
proposed state road bond issue and its relationship to the road building program
in Harnett County. Highway Commissioner Coble was accompanied by Division Engineer
Whitfield.
tr. Coble expalined to the commissioners the various aspects of the proposed
S200,000,000.00 road bond issue, giving special emphasis to the effect the passage
of the bond issue would have on the road improvement program in Harnett County.
He pointed out that it would enable the county to practically double its paved
road mileage in the next f'tr years.
After discussing this matter with Mr. Coble and Pr. Whitfield for approximately
two hours the Board, upon motion of Commissioner Senter, seconded by Commissioner
Fields, voted unanimously as being in favor of the proposed 1200,000,00.00 bond
issue.

Tax Collector for Harnett County to fill the unexpired portion of

on giving the required bond in the amount of $35,000.00.

Thursday, February 24, 1949, with the following present:

This meeting was called for the purpose of discussing the public health
program in our county with Dr. Roy Morton, State Health Officer, Dr. Norton went
over the State Health program with the Commissioners, pointing out how the Counties
and State-attempted to work together on it, and ex nlaining the duties of the local
health officer. This matter was under consideration with Dr. Norton for about one
and one -half hours. No official action was taken by the board with respect to
any phase of the health program.
After concluding the conference with Dr. Norton the Board voted unanimously,
upon motion of Commissioner Fields, seconded by Commissioner Senter, to pay Mrs.
Iva Sloan the sum of 375.00 for her services as Tax Collector during the month
of February.
Thereafter the meeting adjourned.
