HomeMy WebLinkAbout11011948449 NOVEMBER, 1948 The Board of Commissioners mat in regular session on Monday,November 1, 1948, at 10:00 AM with all members present, also present was Clerk to the Board and County Attorney. The Board ordered that 1 acrd of land be purchased from A B Sherman to be used for a cenetary for the County Home at the price of $3)0.0). The Baird ordered that A Ai. A Office be repaired and painted at a cost of ?149.50. It is ordered that tho lot of land onEast Divine St. town of Dunn, listed for taxation in the name of Lucy S Herring for the years 1937, 1938, 1939, 1941, and 1941 and 1942 be relieved of taxes for said years, as during the said period the subject property and was owned by +Vorld War Veterans Loan Fund, an agency of the State of Nort Carolina. The report of wD Harrington, Tax Collector, was approved and ordered.filed. The report of Howard Godwin, Clerk Superior Court was approved and ordered filed. The report of Inez Harrington, Register of Deeds was approved and ordered filed. The report of L.B.McLean, Veterans Service Officer was approved and ordered filed. The following road petitions wore an roved and ordered forwarded to the State Highway and Public Works Commission: (1) That certain road in Black River Township, be taken over and maintained by the State Highway andPublic Works Commission leading from Highway No 210, at a point Immediately east of Dr. You g's pond, running thence northward and thence easterly into the old Stare Road through the Jake Partin lend, a distance of 1.5 miles. (2) Add to State Highway System and maintain or to work up in good condition the following road: Beginning at a point on Highway a 421 at Buies Creek at Edgerton' filling station and runs Southwest by the Home of J L Reardon Jr, H A Brown, Wade Stew t and others a distance of 1 1 /10 mile. (3) A small road leading off from the old Smithfield road about two miles north of Erwin. Starting at a point about two miles North of Erwin in Front of Johnny Suggs home and ending at the farm of Lilly Benson which is about one quarter of a mile. The Board ordered that James E Sease Duke Twp. be released of pole tax for year of 1948 and permantly on account of physical disability. The Board adjourned.
