The Board • of Commissioners of Harnett County met in regular session on Monday,
September 6, 1948, at 10:00 ATM. with Angus A Cameron, R L Pate, L A Tart, and L,R'
Byrd present, Ford D Jackson being absent. Also present was Herbert D Carson Jr.,'
Auditor, Henry C Strickland, County Attorney and Inez Harrington, Clerk to the Board.
The nonthly report of Howard Godwin, Clerk of Superior Court was approved and
ordered filed..
The monthly report of W D Harrington, Tax Collector was approved and ordered
filed.
The monthly report of Inez Harrington, Register of Deeds was approved and order-
ed filed.
The monthl• y- report of L B McLean, Veterans Service Officer was approved '. and
ordered filed..
The following road petition was approved and ordered forwarded to the State High-
way and Pulblic Works Commission;
To construct a road beginning at the west end of Washington Street of the Town
of Coats and loading through what is known as the Williams Community and curving North
connecting with -State Highway No 40 at apoint about one- fourth mile from the town
limits of the,ToWn of Coats, being a distance of about one and one -half (la) miles.,
It is ordered that beerlicenses be granted to Ruth Mae Douglass, Jonesboro # 6,
at Hill Top Garage.
It is ordered that beer license be issued to E B Beasley #4, at E B Beasley's
Place.
It is ordered that beer license be granted to H C Maynard, East Pope Extension,
Dunn N C, at Heck's Place.
It is ordered that the $1000.00 set up-in the budget as new equipment fund in the
Sheriff's office be transferred to the travel fund for the Sheriff.
Whereas, the members of the Board of Commissioners of Harnett County have learned
with deep regret of the death of Mr. Joel G Layton Sr., formerly a member of the Board.
Be it, therefore, resolved,
That the members of this Board record their sentiment of respect for the late Mr.
Joel G Layton Sr., as a former county official and citizen, and that they extend their
sympathy to the bereaved members of his family.
Be it further resolved that a copy of these resolutions be spread upon the minutes
of this Board, and that a copy be transmitted to the family of the deeeased Mr.- Layton
and a copy be furnished to the press.
It is ordered that H D Carson Jr., assistant purchasing agent be paid the sum of
$389.16 for extra services performed as assistant to Commissioner R.L. Pate, purchasing
agent of the County.

"BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners of the County of Bennett, in the
State of North Carolina, which has jurisdiction over ih a area in which Project Nol
NCWV -31194 (PHA) of Campbell College is located that the waiver of the removal require-
ments of Section 313 of the Lanham Act *Public law 849, 76th Congress, as amended)
with respect to said project is hereby specifically approved in accordance with Public
Law 796, 80th Congress."
