HomeMy WebLinkAbout04151948Aprilk1948 The Board of Commissioners of the County of Harnett convened at their room in the courthouse in Lillington, North Carolina, on Monday, April -5, 1948, Present were:Chairman Angus A. Cameron, Commissioners L. A. Tart, L. R. Byrd, R. L. Pate and Ferd D. Jackson, and the Clerk of said Board. and_ was ordered by unanmous vote of all Commissioners that the Tax Collector of `Harriett County proceed to advertise for sale in keeping with the provisions of law the tax liens held by the County of Harnett on property of those who have failed to pay their taxes for the current year which became due in October, 1947, and to sell the said tax liens as provided by law to the highest bidders therefor on the 1st Monday in May 1948, after having advertised the sale of the same at the Courthouse door for four successive weeks preceding such sale, and also by having advertised the sale once a week for four successive preceding such sale in some newspaper published in Harnett County The report of Ipez Harrington Registered was approved and ordered filed. The report of W. D. Harrington, Tax Collector was approved and ordered filed. The report of Howard Godwin, Clerk of Court was approved and ordered filed. The following road petitions were approved and ordered forwarded to the State Highway and Public Works Commission: (1) That certain road in Stewarts Creek Township beginning at McLean's chapel and running North to the Neil McLean land approximately a distance of 1 mile. (2) To hard surface or cause to be made and all weather road in Grove Township, beginning in the town of Coats and leading out from Coats in a Northeasterly direction to the Johnston County line and known as the Coats Bethel Church road, a distance of approximately 4 miles. Beer License were granted to Edward W. Stone, Lillington #3, at Eddie's Place, on the Sanford Johnsonville Highway. Beer License were granted to W. H. Spence Lillington #3 at Spence Brothers, on the Johnsonville Overhill road 8 miles from Lillington. It is ordered that C W Coats,Dunn,N.C., be granted free Pedler license for the year of 1948, on account of physical disability. The Board granted that C W Avery Dew ty Sheriff be allowed $69.00 for patroling the school zone in Erwin. This is a partition for 1 mile and 2/10 of all weather road from Highway 210 starting at R W Butts Store to D H Bain home. The report of L B McLean, Veteran Service Officer was approved and ordered filed. Miss Wilma Williams Supt. T°'elfare appeared before the Board and presented her budget for year 1948 -49, was which adopted by the Board.
