HomeMy WebLinkAbout03011948396 March 1948 The Board of Commissioners of Harnett County met in a regular session on Monday, March 1, 1948 at 10:00 A M with all members of the board present, also Inez Harrington, Clerk to the Board. The report of Howard Godwin, C.S.C., was approved and ordered filed. The report of Inez Harrington, was approved and ordered filed. The report of W D Harrington, Tax Collector, was approved and ordered filed. The Board ordered that $15.00 per month be sent to Lee County for the maintenance of Miss Mary McNeill, an inmate of the Lee County Home. The following road petitions were approved and ordered forwarded to the State Highway and Public Works Commission, Raleigh, N. C. (1) That road known as the old Averasboro road running from Erwin, North Carolina, to Benson, North Carolina, be hard surfaced. This road branches off hard surfaced highway No. 421 at approximately 8/10 of a mile from Erwin and has been hard surfaced for approximately one mile from the intersection with N. C. Highway No. 421, and connects with N. C. Highway No. 40 approximately one mile from the town of Benson which stretch of road is approximately seven miles in length. (2) To maintain a graded farm to market road described as follows: Beginning at a point on Highway #421 about seven thnths of a mile East of Mamers, N. C., and extending in a southernly direction near the line between the property of T P Perry and Mrs. Arlie Brown, thence by the front of R F Patteron's tobacco pack barn and near his feed barn and tobacco barn, thence to the home of W. H. Rogers, a total distance of about 0.5 of a mile. (3) To improve and maintain that road in Anderson's Creek Township, beginning at the E W Grannis farm about five miles from the Anderson Creek School on the south side of H.g way 210 toward the Cumberland County line and runs thence to Highway 210 about four miles to the home of 0. H. Lewis. Fire Insurance Policy No. 2441 in the amount. of $1500.00 was approved and ordered filed. The Board appointed Mrs. John M. Byrd 'Register of Vital Statistics in Grove Township to fill the unexpired term of C V Stewar who rendered his resignation. The Board ordered that James Allen Matthews, Erwin,N.C. be allowed $10.00 per month to begin March 1, 1948 (The check to be mailed to D B Matthews 304 N. llth St. Erwin,N.C. The Board allowed $15.00 per month for Mrs. W. M. Tart, Dunn,N.C. #3 to begin March 1, 1948. The Board will sit as a Board of Equalization R L Pate purchasing agent Courthouse. Cameron, and Commissioners L R Byrd, L A Tart and Ferd D. Jackson. The Highway Commission of the 6th District and Engineer Louis Whitfield visited with the Board and a hearing was held for the public relative to road projects to be undertaken in Harnett County. A certificate by the Clerk of the Board of Commissioners of Town of' Dunn was received to the effect that Hon. H. Paul Strickland had been named by that Board to fill the unexpired term of Hon. J. R. Young, resigned as Judge of the Recorders Court of Dunn. The Board by unanimous vote of all commissioners present, confirmed the appointment of the said H. Paul Strickland as Judge of said court to fill the unexpired term. The Board adopted a resolution favoring the location of Rural Electrification administration office and warehouse at Dunn. Road petition by citizens of Neill's Creek Township for surfacing road leading east from main street by north of ball nark site was approved and forwarded to State Highway Commission for consideration. There being no further business to come before the Board they adjourned to meet again the first Monday in April, 1948.
