The Board of Commissioners of Harnett County met in regular session on Monday, June
2 1947 with A ACameron, Chairman, R L Pate, Ferd D 'Jackson and L R Byrd present,
Absent was L A Tart. Also present was the County Attorney, the Auditor and the
Clerk to the Board.
The resignation of AL Johnson, Constable of Grove Township was accepted and
W J Saul was appointed as Constable in Prove 'Township to fill out the unexpired
term of A L Johnson.
The Board granted free Peddler's license to Jack M Rowles to Peddle ice Cream
etc He being a disabled World War Veteran.
The report of Howard Godwin C S C was approved and orderdd filed.
The report of Ine,, Harrington, Register of Deeds was approved and ordered filed.
The report of W D Harrington, Tax Collector was approved and ordered filed.
The report of L B McLean, Veteran Service ' ficer was approved and ordered filed.
The following road petitions were approved and ordered forwarded to State
Highway & Public Worka Commission.
1. To open up and build and construct a road beginning at a point at or near
the residence of -ayton Butts, on the road leading from Angier to Buies Creek,
and running • thence Easterly and across the lands of Lyton Butts, B C Hockaday
J E Butts, W H Reardon and T H Gardner and others to a point near Jasper Dupree's
residence and into the road leading to Oak Grove Church the same being approximately
a distance of one mile.
2. To improve that certain road reaching from #210 highway at Neills Creek
Church to H C Rogers Station on #421 a total of 4,4 miles.
Resolved by --oard of Commissioners of "arnett County that the appointment of
J R Young, as made by the Board of Commissioners of the -own of Dunn on June 2
to the office of the Judge of Recorders Court of Dunn be and the same is hereby
approved for the unexpired term for which Duncan C Wilson was elected in the General
Election in November 1944.
The Board of Education with Reid Ross Superintendent of the County Schools
appeared before the Hoard of Commissioners and presented the tentative Budget for
1947 -48.
Upon recommendation of the 4xecutive Committee of the Harnett County Library
Board, J F Davis of Lillinaton was appointed Treasurer to serve - without compensation
his bend in the amount of Five Thousand Dollars, will he furnished.
The small butldi_bg back of the Courthouse will be used by the Harnett County
Library Board, for the purpose of carrying on the work. The Library Board agrees
to make necessary repairs onthe building with the understanding there will be not
rent for six months. After the expiration of Six months the Library Board agrees
to pay Twenty Five Dollars a month, for the use of the building. This rental agreement
may be terminated by either the Harnett County Board of Commissioners of the Harnett
County Library Board upon giving six months notice.

Be it resolved by the Commissionors of the County of "arnett as follows:
That there is hereby imposed as County license tax for the privilege of carrying
on the business, excising the privilege, or doing the act named by any person, firm
or corporation, the license or privilege tax pertaining to the several and respective
businesses, professions and acts as enumerated in the Revenue Act of 1947 adopted by
the General Assembly of North Carolina, the maximum amount of such tax lawfully
permitted by said Act to be charged by the County of "arnett in each instance; said
license year to run from July 1, 1947, to and including June 30, 1948: provided, that
the tax with respect to thesale of beer and wine shall run from April 1, 1947, through
April 30, 1948/
NOTICE OF SALE OF LAND
Pursuant tc authority of law, the Harnett County Commissioners wi 11 offer for
sale to the highest bidder for cash on Monday July 7, 1947 at their room in the
Courthouse at Lillington, :North Carolina, at 12 o'clock meridian, all the right, title
and interst of the County of Harnett in and to the followi4g described tract or
parcel of land in Lillington, Harnett County, North Carolina, vizt
Approximately 10.5 acres of land situate on the west side of Highway No 15 -A
bordering upon the right -of -way of Norfolk- Southern Railway Company and as delineated
upon map from survey by "areld T Turlington, Registered Surveyor, made in May 1947,
copy of which is on file with the Re-°ister of Deeds of "arnett County, and to which
/pap and survey reference is hereby had for description by metes and bounds.
The successful bidder will be req ired to depostt 25% of his or her bid as
evidence of good .faith pending exec'ition and delivery of deed, and the County of
"arnett reserves the right to reject any and all bids.

It appearing to the Board of Commissioners of the County of Harnett, State of
North Carolina, that thereordinarily will be no term of court for the trial of
criminal cases between the month of May and the Month of September 1947 and that d irigg
said interval there usually accumulates a considerable number of criminal cases which
tends to make for congestion at the September term of court in Harnett County;
And it further appearing that in the case "State vs Charlie Phillips" who stands
charged with the crime of Murder in the first degree, Honorable W Jack Books, Solicitor
of the Fourth Judicial District has requested the Board of Commissioners of "arnett
County to adopt a resolution requesting a special term of "arnett Superior Court
for the trial of criminal cases, and has expressed the op'nion that it may renuire
a week for the trial of said case:
BE IT, THEREFORE, RESOLVED by the Board of jomm'ssioners of the County
Harnett that, His Excellency R Gregg Cherry, Governor of the State of North
be, and he hereby is requested to issue an order to the proper Judge of the
Court of North Carolina requiring the holding of a special ter, of Superior
for the County of Harnett for the trial of criminal cases to begin on a cert
not to interfere with any of the regular terms of the Fourth Judicial Distri

earlier disposed of. No grand Jury will be needed.
