The Board of Commissioners of Harnett County met in regular session on Monday, August
5, 1946, at 10:00 A M with J B Ennis, Chairman, A A Cameron, R L Pate, Lonnie R Byrd
and Ferd D Jackson present. 4lso present was the County Auditor, County Attorney,
and the Clerk to the Board.
The Board accepts with rcigret the resignation of Miss Jean Pegram, Home Demonstration
Agent to take effect August 15, 1946.
The Board appointed Miss Rachel Herring County Home Demonstration Agent to fill the
unexpired term of hiss Jean Pegrarp.
The Board appointed Miss Loraine Vail of Wayne County as Assistant Home Demonstration
Agent to fill the unexpired term of the Asst Agent.
Whereas! Board ordered release pf $150.00 value of personal property totaling $2.40
in taxes for the year 1945 to MaNie Elliott (Col) of Stewarts Creek Township.
Resolution: WHEREAS Walter Lee Johnson and K R Hoyle Trustee are owners of about
25 acres of land in Upper Little River Township formerly S P Hatch Estate and half
interest of Fannie Hatch Larkin by purchase of Mrs. Larkin recentty Book 302, page
54 Registry cf Harnett County and whereas same has not been listed in recent years
and probably not listed for many years; and whereas owners desire to have same
after listed and whereas the other half interest in said property was heretofore
afterlisted in December 1945 at 25 acres at valuation of $100.00 by resolution of
the Board.
Now Therefore be it resolved that said land be after listed for the years 1941, 1942
1943, 1944, 1945 and 1946 as 25 acres at valuation of $100.00 in Upper Little River
Township, and that upon payipant of such after listing in 1946 that all Harnett County
taxes for year 1946 and prior years be satisfied and discharged and released.
It is ordered that Beer License be issued to Mabel Janet Haman R # 3 Box 30 Dunn, N C
at the White Way Club on N Railroad Ave.
It is rdered that Beer License be issued to J F Adams Rt # 3 Dunn, at the Hill Top
Service Station on Coats & Erwin Highway.
The Board appointed Ferd D Jackson to assist Mrs. Pou Bradley in supervision of
Indexing Office.
The following Road Petitions were approved and ordered forwarded to State highway
and Public '.';orkd Commission.
(1) That certain road in Stewart's Creek Tw: and Anderson Creek Twp and reaching
from Highway 15 -A at Bunnlevel to Hii.hway x%210 at Flat Branch Church.
(2) To improve, repair and redner serviceable that portion of the State maintained
road and highway in Harnett County extending from Mainers, TT C to J W Knights
Store on the Johnsonville Road. This is a much traveled p6rtio0 of said system
and has been badly neglected in recent years, as a result of which it is in very
bad condition and almost impassable.
(3) That the Harnett County public road leading from and by the Fair Grounds at
Dunn, N C Northward to Oak Dale.School, a distance of approximately 71 miles, be
prepared for surface treating and be surface treated. This road at or near Oakdale
School bisects the road leading from Benson to Coats, and under a petition heretofore
approved and designated as the Fourth Project Harnett County, the said road will
continue northward along the Johnston - Harnett County line through the town of Angier
to Lafayette School. The present road running from Oakdale School southward to the
town of Dunn carries much travel, and it has been impossible to maintain it, and it
has been and now is in a most unsatisfactory condition.
The board of County Commissioners having received from the Clerk of the Board cf
Commissioners of the Town of Dunn certification in writing of the feet that Everett
L Doffermyre, Esquire of Dunn, North Carolina, had been duly and regularly elected
by that Board as Judge of the Recorder's Court of Dunn to fill the unexpired term of
Honorable Duncan Wilson, resigned, with the request that Mr. Dotfermyre's election
be confirmed by the County Commissioners, the Board of County Commissioners, upon
motion by Commissioner R L rate, seconded by Commissioner F D Jackson, by unanimous
vote confirmed the said election of Honorable Everett L Doffermyre as Judge of the
Recorders Court of Dunn.
The Board further ordered that acertified copy of the foregoing excerpt from the
Minutes of this date be transmitted to the Board of Commissioners of Town of Dunn,
The Board appointed Mrs. Ernest Darriodh- ]tidal, $fltistic registrar of Anderson
Creek township to fill out the unexpired term of Mrs. Dougald McRae.
