The Board of Commissioners met in regualr session on Monday August 6, 1945
at 10 :00 with all members present, also the County Attorney and Clerk to Board.
It is ordered that the certificate of Deposit held by the County originally
payable to Buckhorn Township Road Commissions in the principal amount of 681.62,
be endorsed by the County Accountant in the name of Buckhorn Township Road Comm-
issioners by the County of Harnett successor to said Commissioners to the County
of Harnett, the funds, with any accred interest thereon to be credited Township
Road Fund.
Upon montion of Commissioner L. R. Byrd seconded by Commissioners F. D. Jackson
and unanimously carried, W. D. Harrington was appointed as Harnett County Tax
Collector for the term beginning July 1, 1945 and ending Juno 30, 1946 the Depositary
and his methods of making deposits and accounting to be in co#formity with resolu-
tions adopted in 1944.
It is ordered that the 200 lbs, of sugar now in custody of the sheriff, seized
at blockade still, be confiscated and distributed as follows:
County Home 125 lbs.
Harnett County Jail 25 lbs.
Harnett County Hospital 50 lbs.
The following road petition was presented, approved and ordered forwarded to
State Highway and Public Works Commission.
(1) to work up and improve a certain dirt,road in Stewart's Creek township
of necessity travelled by the public, which road leads from Flat Branch road, near
Merritt Strickland's to the public road near the home of Stronnie Lanier, and into
the Bunnlevel Roadm a total distrance of approximately 2 1/2 miles
The report of Inez Har rington Register of Deeds of Harnett County was approved
and ordered filed.
The report of W. D. Harrington, Tax Collector w as approved and ordered filed.
The report of Haward Godwin, C.S.C. was approved and ordered filed.
Beer License on premises and wine off premises was granted to Adeline Powell
and C. W. Pate at Earps Cafe in Angier.
Beer License on premises and wife offeas granted to G. W. Walsh at the Triangle
Service Station, Lillington, N.C. #1.
Be it resolved that the following surplus amounts now on deposit in Firat-
Citizsns Bank & Trust Company, Dunn, N. C. Be transferred from the several accounts
shown below to the Bond Fund ( or County Debt Service Fund ), said accounts as
shown below being inactive:

Captial Outlay Funds 1618.48
Special Emergency Relief 1064.25
Convict Camp 279.63
Roads & Bridges 568.71
Total to be transferred, as ordered above

Resolved by the Board of Commisioners of Harnett County, and pursuant to an
Act of the Legislature, session of 1945, as follows;
(1) That the office of Veterans Service Officer of Harnett County to be and
the same is hereby created
(2) That the County of Harnett shall provide suitable office space at the
County seat of the County for use of the County Veterans Service Officers, and
the county shall defray the expense of providing necessary office equipment and
supplies.
(3) That the compensation of the Veterans Service Officer shall be $159. per
month,- payable monthly, by the County, and theCounty Veterans Service officer, shall
serve at the pleasure of the Board of County Commissioners.
(4) That the duties of the County Veterans Service Officer shall be to assist
all Veterans of Harnett County who have served in wars in which the United States
has, been inboleed, to co- operate with the National, State add Reginal Service
Officers; to assist said Vebarans and their dependents in connection with all claims
againstbthe Government arising from military service; and to add the veterans in
obtaining employement, medical attention, hospitalization, loans, educabional ad-
vantages, and to otherwise preserve and protect their rights.
(5) That the County Veterans Service Officer be and herby is authorized to
perform such travel as may be resonably necessary in the discharge of his official
duties and the county shall compensate him monthly at thereto of 5j per $ile for
m iliage actually travelled upon voucher duly presented, in no event to exceed
$50.00 per month.
(6) That the said Veterans Officer is hereby authorized to employ the services
of a competent secretary at a salary notexceeding $90.00 monthly to be paid monthly
by the County of Harnett.
(7) That upon motion of Commissioner L. R. Byrd, seconded by Commissioner A.
A. Cameron, duly carried L. B. McLean, of Erwin, be and he hereby is appointed
Harnett County Veterans Service Officer, his his compensation andactive service to
begin September 1, 1945

The following road petitions were presented, approved and ordered forwarded
to the State Highway & Public Works Commission;
(1) to maintain that certain road in Stewart's Creek Township leading.from
State Highway #210 at a point near the home of Everette Clayton and runs east
into the road at a point near the home of R. E. Temple. This is a school bus
route and is approximately 7/10 of a mile.
(2) to tar and gravel a piece of road running from the East Erwin to South
Erwin road to tit old Dunn & Erwin, Highway near Antioch Church.
(3) to take over and maintain that certain road in
beginning on Cool Springs- Mamers road at a point one
runs one mile east to the Raven Rock road passing the
Brown, Alex Thomas and A. R. Wester a distance of one
Upper Little River Township
mile north of Mamers and
homes of M. C. Brown, L. L.
mile.
