The Board of - ommissioners met in a regular session on Monday July 2, 1945 at
10;00 o'clock A. M. with all members present also present were Inez Harrington, Clerk
to the Board, H.C. Strickland, County Attorney and J. Earl Ward, Auditor.
A report of Howard Godwin, C.S.C. was approbed and ordered filed.
A report of Inez Harrington, Register of Deeds, was approved and ordered filed.
A report of W.D. Harrington, Tax Collector, was approved and ordered-filed.
The following road petition was approved and ordered forwarded to the State
Highway & Public Works Commission.
(1) to maintain that road w hich is situated from main street in the town of
Buie's Creek just South of F.D. Jackson's home and just North of L.D. Forbes's
residence about West by way of the J. N. Gregory, the F. F. Gregory, and the J.W.
Gregory residences, and on the State Maintained Highway at a point at the Pleasant
Palins Methodest Church a distance of 1.8 miles.
Bond in the amount of $1000.00 for Miss Ilah Mae Marsh, deputy County Auditor
office, includingcol±ection of prepaid taxes to begin on the 12th day of June, 1945
for an indefinate term was approved and ordered copies on the minutes od this meeting
and the original filed with the C.S.C.

KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS, That Ilah Mae Marsh, Lillington, N, C, as
Principal (hereinafter called Principal), and the Maryland Casualty. Company, a
corporation of the State of Maryland, having its Principal office in the City of
Balitmore, Maryland, as Surety (hereinafter called Surety), are held and firmly
bound unto the Board of County Commissioners, Harnett County, N, 0, in the penalty
of One Thousand and 00100 Dollars (01000.00) to the payment whereof well and truly
to be made and done, the said Principal binds itself, its successors and assigns,
jointly and executore and administrators and the said Surety binds itself, it
successors and assigns, jointly and severally, firmly by these presents; -
THE CONDITION OF THE FOREGOING OBLIGATION IS SUCH, that WHERAS, the said principa
was elected or appointed, Deputy, County Auditor's Office, incliding Collection of
prepaid taxes. for theterm beginning on the 12th day of June 1945, for an indefinite
term.

NOW, THEREFORE, if the said Principal shall, during the term of this bond, well
and faithfully perform all and singular the duties incumbent upon him by reason of his
election or appointment as said Deputy, County Auditor's Office, except as hereinafter
limited, and honeatly account for all moneys coming into his hands as said Deputy, County
Auditor's Office, according to law then this obligation shall be null and void, it is
otherwise to be and remain in full force and virtue
THIS BOND, is executed by the Surety upon the following express condition, which
shall be a condition precedent to the right of recovery herednder;
IT IS MUTUALLY UNDERSTOOD AND AGREED BETWEEN ALL PARTIES HERETO that if the Surety
shall so elect, this bond may be concalled by giving thirty (30) days' notice in writing
to the said Board of County Commissioners, Harnett, N, G, abd this bond shall be deemed •
camcelled at the expiration of said thirty 30 days, the said Surety remaining liable for
all or any act: oracts covered by this bond which may have been committed by the Principal:
up to the date of such cancellation under the terms, conditions and provisions of this
bond, and the Surety shall, upon surrender of this bond and its release from all ligbility
thereunder, refund the premium paid, less a pro rata parr thereof, for the time this bond
shall have been in force.

The following Beer licenses were granted;
(1) Alease M. King at Moon Glow Inn in the town of Dunn.
(2) Ben Gilbert Porter at Bannermans Coffee Shop in the town of Dunn.
(3) George Jannette and George W. Rose at restaurant on West Broad Street, Dunn, N.0
The Board of Commissioners appointed Clifford R. Ammons as County Farm Agent
for one year.
The Board of Commissioners appointed T. D. (''Quinn as assistant farm Agent for
a tern of 1 year.
The `'oard of Commissioners appointed Miss Jean Peagram as Home Demostration
agent for a term of one year.
The Boarda pointed L. K. 3oston, neg :o as the negro Farm agent for a term of
one year.
It is decided that there will be no assistant Home Demonstration Agents in the
county.
The board of Trustees of the Harnett County Hospital having transmitted to the
board of `'ommissioners of Harnett County the nominations of tthe following citizens
of the County for Trustees of that institution;
W. E. Nichols, succeeding A. B. Currin, Jr. Whose term of office expired June 8,
1945.
Myres Tilghman, to succeed hinself, whose tern of office expired Jule 8, 1945;
and A. R. McQueen to succeed hinself whose term of office expired June 8, 1945.
It is therefore, upon motion of commissioner L. R. Byrd, seconded by commissioner
R. L. Pate and duly carried RESOLVED by the board of "ommissioners of Harnett County
that .'+. Nichols, Myres Tilghman and A. R. McQueen be and they are hereby appointed
as Trustees of Harnett County Hospital, their term of office to expire June 8, 1960.

IT IS ORDERED that upon the payment of $150.00 by Dock Tart of Dunn to the
County of Harnett, the County Attorney shall take a non -suit in pending cases wherein
the county is plaintiff and W.M. Tart and others are the defendants and being numbers
CT 3580 and CT 3479; and upon the receipt of said sum all taxes due the County of
Harnett for the years 1945 and all prior years are s ettled in dull on those lots
owned by W.M. 'Tart in Averasboro Township, town of Dunn and being located on West
Johnson Street, one lot being a vacant lot 130 x 140 and one let on the corner of
West Johnson Street and North McKay Ave. on which there is a house,

NORTH CAROLINA
HARNETT COUNTY
T. W. Lee, the duly appo nted registrar, and J. Dowd and Empie Hall, the
duly appointed judges of elect'on, for the special election held in Dunn School
District June 28, 1915, to assertain whether there shall be levied in said District
a local annual tax of 15V on the $100.00 Valuation of all property to supplement
funds fort he nine months public school term for that District, having thid day
filed with the board of -'ommissioners of Harnett County their offical returns; and
it appearing to the satisfaction of the undersigned members cf the said Board of
County Commissioners that the total registration was 376, and that 76 votes were
cast for local Tqx. And 107 were cast "against local tax ";
It is, thereupon determined and declared that the election failed to carry, and
that as a result thereof the special annual tax of 15V on the $100.00 valuation of
property in Dunn School District to be neither levied or collected for the fiscal
year 1945 -46.
This the 2nd day of July, 1945.

Be it resolved that the sum of $450.00 set up in the 1945 -46 budget, for repair
to the Dunn County Health Clinic building, be expended fort hat purpose; and
Be it further resolved that it is the s ense of the members of the Board of
County Commissioners that the Dunn 'ounty Health Clinic building should not be sold
or otherwise disposed of, but that the said project should be permanent and of
continued use for the benefit of the people of Harnett County; and
That the Dunn -Erwin Chapter of the American Red Cross be allowed to have office 1 in
this building, using the part of the same not needed by the Health Clinic.

COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
The members of the "oard of Commissioners of Harnett County having heard with
regret of the death of Mr. Nady Ennis, brother of our friend and co- worker, Honorabl
J. B. Ennis,
BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of "ommissioners of Harnett County that we extend t
the Chairman of our Board, Honorable -J. B. Ennis, our deepest sympathy, and to the
members of the family of the deceased expressions of our regret.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of these resolutions be transmitted to Mr.
J. B. Ennis and the family of the late Nadt Ennis, and that a copy be spread upon
the minutes of our meeting, and that a copy be furnished-the press.

The written application of Hattie Bryant for Beer license and wine license off
p- remises was considered by the "ommissioners, along with petitions to the Board
by many citizens favoringmand protesting the issurance of such license.
The Board finds that one Joe M. Bryant lives at the location for which license 's
soughtl that he was present when the application was presented; that information rev las
that the location is ownedmby ff sJt.aBrfant !ata iaoknown as "Bryant's Place, and that
his record disqualifies him from procuring licenses now,aought.
It is therefore ordered that:for the present the insurance of license be denied
for the reason thatthe real applicant for interest is Joe N. Bryant rather than Hattie
Bryant and that both Hattie Bryant and Joe M. Bryant -be notifies that they may be and appear
before the hoard for further hearing in this matter on Augusr 6, 1945, if they shoul
so desire.
It is ordered that upon receipt of $307.60 from D. W. Cox, the pending tax sui
and lien of taxes for 11 yrs, 1934 -1945. both inclusive be non - suited and released,
involving house and lot in Upper Little River Township listed to D. W. Cox for said
years.
Be it resolved that that property formerly listed to Joe P. Smith and foreclos
by Harnett and Town of Dunn,at a tax foreclosure sale under Judgment #2305 A -1244 to
be sold to W.H. Laughlinghouse for the sum of $406.88 cash with this offer and desc
as 1 lot 1121 x 140 ft.-on the corner of Clinton and Godwin Street and the Chairman
hereby authorized to execute deed to W. H. Laughinghouse and the clerk to the Board
attest same.

The Board recedded to recover at call of chairman
July 6, 1945
The Board of Commissioners met in a call session on Friday July 6th with
all members presemt also present was the clerk to Board.
Miss Verna Staton District Home Demonstration Agent and Miss Maude Searcy
appeared before the Board and gave a talk on the Home Demonstration work in the
County.
The 'Board stood firm on the appointment of Miss Jean Pegram as Home Demonstrati
Agent for Harnett. Miss Maude Searcy will remain during the month of July or she
is at liwerty to leave at any time during the month. Miss Pegram will take charge
pf the Home Demonstration work in Harnett County on August 1 st at which time an
assistant Home Demonstration Agent will arrive to a ssist Miss Pegram in this work.
The Board agreed to continue the negro Home Demonstration work in the county
and Ida Hinnant was appointed as negro Home Demonstration Agent for the term of
1 year
