The Board of Commissioners of Harnett County met in regular session on Monday
July 3 at 10)00 A.M. with all members present, also the County Attorney and the
Clerk to the Board.
Upon motion of commissioner, Ferd Jackson, seconded by Commissioner L.R.Byrd,
And unanimously carried, it is ordered that Clarence Moore be and hereby is
appointed as Constable for Grove Township to fill the unexpired term of W.J.
Sauls now in the Army, which term expires the First Monday in December, 1944; and
that the appointee give a good and sufficient bond in the principal sum of $1000.
with good surety, to be approved by the Board of County Commossioners.
It is ordered that Mrs.Angus A.Cameron of Barbecue Township be appointed to
Library Board to fill the unexpired term of G.L.Cameron.
It is ordered that A.F.Maynard, Dunn, be released of Poll taxes thru 1943, on
account of Physical disability.
It is ordered that Mack Pope, Dunn, be relieved of Poll taxes thru yrs 1145 on
account of Physical disability.
It is ordered that Howard Dixon, Ave. Twp. be released of Poll tax thru yearn
1943, on account of physical disability.
It is ordered that W.P.McLamb, Averasboro Township be relieved of poll taxes
thru 1943 on account of physical disability.
Mrs. S.R.McKay appeared before the Board and presented the Library Board
Budget for 1944 -1945.
It is ordered that property listed W.H.Adams located unopened Cleveland Street
in town of Dunn, be reduced in tax valuation bo $455.00 on account of error in
tax records and that he refunded the amount over paid on account of error for
three years prior.
It is ordered that the County Offices be closed on Saturday afternoons for the
summer months.
The Report of W.D.Harrington, Tax Collector was approved and ordered filed.
The report of Inez Harrington, Register of Deeds was approved and ordered filed.
The report of Howard Godwin,C.S.C. was approved and ordered filed.
The following road petitions were approved and ordered forwarded to the State
Highway and Public Works commission.
(1) the road which runs from Flat Branch Church,Anderson Creek Township, West
4.5 miles to the Nursery Road. This proposed road would branch off 1.5 miles from
the intersection at Flat Branch Church and run South approximately 2 miles into
Highway 210 about .5 of a mile north of the Anderson Creek School. This road
would serve families living in this section and would shorten the distance to
school for all families living on the northwest end of the school district. The
road would shorten the school bus route approximately 4 miles per day.
(2) a road 1 mile in length,ahich road intersects with the Angier - Smithfield
Road (State Highway x{210) at the Cape Fear Church and with a sand clay surface
State road at a point near J.H.Tripp's home, do hereby petition that the abgve
described road be taken over and kept in repairs by the State Highway and P blic
Works Commission.
