The Board of Commissioners of Ha'nettCounty, met in a call session Tuesday,
June 13 at 10 :00 A M with all the members present, also the Clerk to the Board
and the County attorney.
The Board granted the Court Stenographer $25. per week for the terms of Oourt
which have been cancelled during the year.
It appearing that the office of constable in Barbecue Township is vacant, and
that the township is wouthamt a constable; It is, -upon motion of Commissioner
Cameron, seconded by Commissioner Byrd, unanimoully ordered that Vance Cameron be
and he hereby is appointed Constable of Barbecue Township, Her nett County to assure
Office after having given bond for the faithful performance of the duties of the
office in the sum of $1000. to be appeared by the Board of Commissioners.
It is ordered that, as of June 1,1944, H.S.Freeman,Auditor be and he hereby
is designated officially to receive pre - payments of the 1944 County Tax levy.
Mr. H.S.Freeman tendered to the Board cif Commissioners in writing his
resignation as County Auditor and Tax Supervisor and requested that it take effect
at the close of the month of July. Thereupon, by motion duly made and carried the
resignation of Mr. Freeman was aocpeted.' The Board expressed appreciation for
the good services rendered by Mr.Freeman.
It appearing to the Board that certain lands of C.L.Parker in Stewart's creek
Township are being listed for taxation to the County for the year 1944, including
25 acres of land (leased to Bryan Monroe Go.,for their use and purposes), which
25 acres should presently be assessed at 45.00 per acre according to the other
land of like known quality and location: It is ordered thattthe mentioned 25
acres of land be valued for taxation purposes for the year 1944 at $5.00 per acre.
It appearing to the Board that certain lands of W.L.Byrd in Stewart's Creek
Township are being listed for taxation to the County of Harnett for the year
1944, including 15 acres of land (leased to Bryan- Monroe Co., for their use
and purposes) which 15 acres of land should be carried forward and listed at
$5.00 per. acre according to other land of like known quality and location: it
is ordered that the mentioned 15 acres of land be valued for taxation purposes
for the year 1944 at $5.00 per acre.
Policy #561097 with the American Insurance Company in amount of 42,000.00
on the County Jail was approved and ordered filed.
