January 1944:
The Board of Commissioners of Harnett County met in a regular session on Monday,
January 3,1944 at 10:00 A M with J B.Ennis, Chmn.,L.R.Byrd,R.L.Pate,Ferd D.Jackson,
A.A.Cameron,President. Also present was the County Attorney and the Clerk to the
Board.
The report of Howard Godwin,C.S.C., was approved and ordered filed.
The report of W D Harrington, was approved and ordered filed.
The report of Inez Harrington,Register of Deeds, was approved and ordered filed.
It is ordered that R.M.Byrd be refunded $51.84 taxes on real estate in Grove
Twp. on account of error in double listing.
It is ordered Van R.Powell of Black River Township be refunded taxes in the
amount of $47.68 for stock of merchandise listed in error.
It is ordered that Dr.J.F.Martin be refunded $5.4u taxes on account of excessive
value on office fixtures.
It is ordered that tax valuation on residence K A Williams Averasboro Township
be reduced in tax valuation in amount of $500. for year 1943.
It is ordered that tax supervisior be instructed to use the tax valuation on
automobile listed in blue book for year 1942 in listing automobile for year 1944.
It is ordered that upon the recommendation of H.S.Freeman that Mrs.Naomi S.
Hudson be appointed as list taker for Grove Township.
Be it resolved that the property in Grove Township formerly listed to Ida
Bolton and acquired by Harnett County under tax foreclosure sale under Judg.#
120 A 922 be sold to J 0 R`hittenton for 420u. cash described as follows: Lot #1
Beginning at a stake aid pointers corner with Lot #2 in the James old line and runs
with the James old line North 882 West crossing the telegraph road 7.90 chains to
the James old corner; thence South 4 West 80 links to the J.M.Roberts oldcorner;
thence as the said old marked line crossing the old telegraph road outh 22 West
15.10 chains to the corner of lot #4; thence as a line of said Lot #4 South 882
East 7.55 chains to a stake corner with Lot #2; thence with a line of said Lot #2
North 22 East 15.80 chants to the beginning and contains 12* acres, more or less.
N.B. We Civil A.Avery and J.D.Avery hereby reserve our life -time right in the
above tract to use in any way that we may choose all during our natural life.
But we can't sell the land. The Chairman of the Board is hereby authorized to
execute deed and the Clerk will attest the same.

Indemnity Company of New York, New York, are held and firmly bound unto the
State of North Carolina in the Sum of Ten Thousand Dollars ($10,000.00) to the
payment of which we bind ourselves, our heirs, executors and administrators firmly
by these presents.
This is issued as a Renewal Certificate of Bond No. F 55556 from December 7,
1943 to December 7,1944, for the said Howard G.Godwin,Clerk of Superior Court,
Harnett County, North Carolina.

The following road petition was approved and ordered forwarded to State Highway
& Public Works Commission Beginning at a point near the residence of the late
Carson Surles and runs in a western direction along the farms of Zach Lee, C.L.
Guy, Moses Tripp, Robert Tripp and I.W.Norris to that dirt road:.leading from
Dunn to Turlington's Cross Roads.
The Board granted Beer License to Mack Oris Pope Averasboro Township to sell beer
at Five. and Five Club on HIghway #301.

It is ordered that the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad Company be refunded on
its claim the sum of three Hundred twenty seven and 1 /100 Dollars, with interest there -
on-from January 17,1943 the date of such erronious taxpayment,until paid;
And that said taxpayer-he released from.the payment of 1943 Harnett County
taxes to the extent of 326.89.
