Attorney was present and also the Clerk to Board. The report of Inez Harrington, Register of Deeds for the month of June was approved and ordered filed. The report of Howard Godwin,Clerk Superior Court for the month of June was approved and ordered filed. The report of Lola O'Quinn,Delinquent Tax Collector for the month of June was approved and ordered filed. 5,1943, with The County The report of W.D.Harrington,Tax Collector for the month of June, was approved and ordered filed. It is ordered that Beer license be granted to E.R.Wade Station in the Town of Angier. The Board approved an approporation in the sum of S275. for the Air raid warning in the Town of Dunn. This amount the equipment. The town will pay the other half. at the Fidelity Service for the siren equipment is one half the cost of The Board ordered that V.B.Griffin, of Duke Township be released of Poll Tax for the year 1942 and then permenantly on account of physical disability. It appearing that Mr.Lonnie B.Jackson, the elected Constable in Averasboro Township, is'now a Folic Officer for the Town of Dunn, and has resigned his office as constable, and that various citizens in Averasboro township has requested the Board of Commissioners of Harnett County toa ppoint Mr. R.C. Oakley as constable in Averasboro township, to fill the unexpired term of Mr.Jackson: It is upon motion of Commissioner R.L.Pate, secondedCby Commissioner F.B. Jackson, and by a unanimous vote ordered that R.C.Oakley"be and he hereby is appointed as Constable in Averasboro township,Harnett County, to fill the unexpired term of Lonnie B.Jackson, resigned. It is'further ordered that R.C.Oakley give a sufficient bond in the'sum of $1000.00, assuring the faithful performance of his duties as Constable, the bond to be approved by the Board of Commissioners. Be it resolved that the property in Harnett County and the town of Dunn containing 12600 ft. and acquired at a tax foreclosure sale under judgment No.SD#2317 -A -1440 by the County of Harnett and The Town of Dunn be sold to John Byrdsal, Dunn,N.C. P.O. Box 261 for the sum of Three Hundred Ninety Seven & 05/100 Dollars ($397.05) on the following terms and conditions: $47.05 cash and $14.00 per month for twenty ✓ five months due and payable on the ]it day of each month beginning August 1,1945. All that certain lot or parcel of-land in Averasboro Township,Ha m ett County and within the corporate limits of the Town of Dunn. Beginning at a stake on the South side of East Pope Street (Barefoot's corner) and runs said Barefoot's corner line S. 38 W. 140 feet to a stake; thence at right angles S. 52 E. 90 feet to a stake at the ditch; thence with the ditch in an easterly direction to a stake in the South side of East Pope Street; thence with the said East Pope Street to the beginning corner, containing 12,600 square feet and being the same lot conveyed to C.B.Aycock by deed recorded in Book 178 at page 96 in the office of the Register of Deeds of Harnett County. For further description see Book Ip. 116, page 319 Office of the Register of Deeds for H arnett County. And the Chairman of the Board is hereby authorized to execute a deed to John Byrdsol and wife, Esther Langston Byrdsal, and the Clerk to the Board will attest the same. NORTH CAROLINA, HARNETT COUNTY. Pursuant to and in conformity with Chapter 546 of the Public Laws, 1943, of North Carolina, the Board of Commissioners of H arnett County do resolve: 1. That from and after July 31, 1943 and beginning on August 1, 1943, the Tax Collector of Harnett County be and he hereby is authorised and duredted to collect all delinquent f=axes, fees, penalties, and other revenue, due the County of Harnett, in addition to the collection of current taxes as he is now required to do; and the Tax Collector shall be vested with all the powers and authority and shall be responsible for all the duties as are now, and or may hereafter be, provided by law for Sheriffs of the State of North Carolina in collection of taxes and levy and sale of land and personal property for taxes in the County of Harnett, and he shall be vested with au- thority to collect delinquent -as well as current taxes, with power and authority to make levy and sale of real prpperty and personal property for delinquent taxes, penalties, fees and revenues. •t. 2. That as of the close of business - on July 31, 1943, the Delinquent Tax Co18 lector of Harnett County shall account for and make settlement of taxes up to Aug. 1,1943, with the Board of County Commissioners, and she shall thereupon be relieved of all further duties e delinquent tax collector in connection with the collection of delinquent taxes, and the other duties imposed upon her by virtue of her office, and her surety shall be-discharged from liability from and after said settlement with reference to the collection of delinquent taxes and revenues theretofore made by her. 3. That the Tax Collector of Harnett County shall be paid a salary-of $4200. per annum, payable monthly, together with travel expenses of $1200 per annum, payable monthly. 4. - 5. That the Tax Collector is hereby authorized and empowered to employ such clerical assistance as in his opinion may be necessary for-the proper conduct of hissoffice, and with the" consent of the Board of Commissioners, tb fix their compensation. The aggregate expenses of the cendu.ctof his office, including all salaries, assistants, clerical help and supplies, not to exceed an aggregate of $15,000.00 annually. 6. That the Tax Collector be and he hereby is authorized to retain as additional' compensation -legal fees chargeable bylaw in case of levy; garnishment, land sales, or other process, for the enforced collection of taxes or any part or percentage thereof. 7. That beginning with - Aug. 1,1943,'H.S'.1Preeman,Auditor, be and he is hereby designated officially to receive pre - payments of the 1943 tax levy. 8. -That the Harnett County Tax Collector; as of July 1st, 1943, -shall give a good and sufficient bond with corporate surety, to be approved by the Board of'- Commissioners, in the amount of $10,000.00; protecting against loss in connection with the collection of'delinquent taxes for years prior to the 1942 levy, and miscellaneous revenues.
