The Board of County Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, July
6th. at 10:00 O'clock A. M., with all members present. Also present were the
County Attorney, the Clerk to the Board and the Auditor.
The report of Robert Morgan, Clerk of Superior Court, was approved and order-
ed filed.
The report of Inez Harrington, Register of Deeds was approved and ordered
filed.
The report of D. P. Ray, Tax Collector was approved and ordered filed.
The report ctx72ccS. of L. B. McLean, Veteran Service Officer, was approved and
ordered filed.
The report of B. H. Sellers, County Electrical Inspector, was approved and
ordered filed.
Mrs. S. R. McKay, County Librariazappeared before the Board and presented the
budget for the County Library in the amount of $3600.00, which was approved by
the Bpard.
The following road petition was presented and placed on file:
(1) To gravel or clay that certain road in Buckhorn Township which runs
from Mollie Brown's home to F. S. Blanchard farm, a distance of 5/10 miles and
known as Ausley Road. (Petition filed)
(2) Make an all weather road in Neill's Creek Township which runs from
Highway No. 210 to Bruce Johnson's home, a distance of 4/10 miles. (Petition
filed)
(3) Make an all weather road in Neill's Creek which runs from Highway No.
421 to A. L. Wood's farm, a distance of 1 mile. (Petition filed)
(4) Straighten and black top surface that road in Johnsonville Township
which runs from Cypress Church Road to Johnsonville Hoke County line, a distance
of 1 -8/10 miles. (Petition sent to Mr. Tart 7 -6)
The Board ordered a rebate of $5.82 to Dave Lilly, Dunn, N. C., Averasboro
Township, on a tax payment in 1948, on account of error in listing.
Upon motion of Commissioner Byrd, seconded by Commissioner Ingram, county
wide property valuation was ordered deferred until 1954. Motion carried.
Commissioner Byrd was appointed by the Board to confer with Town Board in
repairing the side -walk on South and west of Courthouse square and installing a
light at the steps near the Agricultural Building.
R E S O L U T I O N
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF HARNETT COUNTY That the follow-
ing budget, for the fiscal year 1953, 1954, be and the same is hereby adopted and
the tax levy for the said fiscal year is hereby appropriated:
General, Poor and Health (increase 412,000. for Superior
Old Age Assistance Court)
Aid to Dependent Children
SCHOOL FUND
Current Expense
Capital Outlay
Debt Service
Township Road Fund
Special District No. 2
Averasboro Township

Upon-Motion of Commissioner Ingram seconded by Commissioner Byrd, the follow -
ing Resolution was unanimously adopted:
WHEREAS, G. T. Profitt, Superintendent of the Public Schools of Harnett County
has appeared before the Board this day and advised theā¢Board that it is necessary
that certain work be done -upon the public school buildings of Harnett County in
order that such buildings may be ready for use and occupancy at the beginning of
the 1953 -1954 term, and has further advised the Board that it will be necessary
to spend the sum of approximately $50,000 for such purpose during the months of
July and August; And,
WHEREAS, sufficient funds to defray the cost of such work have been set up and
appropriated in the budget for the Harnett County School system for the fiscal
year 1953 -1954, but such funds will not be available from tax revenues in apt
time to be used in defraying the cost of such work and the Harnett County Board
of Education desires to obtain a temporary loan of4450,000 from the general fund
surplus of Harnett County in order that such work may be done during the summer
months; And,
WHEREAS, ample funds will be available in the Harnett County School Budget
to repay said loan within ninety days from the date hereof, and the Board of
Commissioners of Harnett County is of the opinion that the sum of $5o,000 should
be loaned to the Harnett County Board of Education from the general fund surplus
of said County to be used by the Harnett County Board of Education in making nec-
essury repairs and improvements to the buildings of said school system during
the months of July and August, which loan shall be repaid within ninety days from
the date hereof;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF HARNETT
COUNTY That the sum of $50,000 be loaned to the Harnett County Board of Education
to be used by said Board in making necessary repairs and improvements to Harnett
County *School Buildings during the months of July and August, 1953, provided
however, that no portion of said sum_ shall be used for any purpose other than the
repair and improvement of Harnett County School buildings, and provided further,
that said loan shall be repaid in full from revenue to be receibed by the Harnett
County Board of Education within ninety days from the date hereof, and the Audi-
tor of Harnett County is hereby authorized to issue a check to the Harnett County
Board of Education inthe amount of $50,000
