JUNE 1st. 1953
The Board of County Commissioners net in regular session on Monday, June 1st.
1953, with all members present. Also present were the County Attorney, an the
Auditor and the Clerk to Board.
The report of Robert B. Morgan, Clerk Superior Court, was approved and
ordered filed.
The report of D. P. Ray, Tax Collector, was approved and ordered filed.
1'he report of Inez Harrington, Register of Deeds, was approved and ordered
filed.
The report of L. B. McLean, Veteran Service Officer, was approved and ordered
filed.
The report of B. H. Sellars, Electrical Inspector, was approved and ordered
filed.
Commissioner Worth Lee Byrd moved, seconded by Commissioner D. E. Lasater, Jr.,
that all County Employees who are eligible come under Social Security effective
July 1st. 1953. Motion carried.
Commissioner Worth Lee Byrd moved, seconded by Commissioner B. P. Ingram, that
Thurman B. Ennis be employed to audit the county offices. Motion carried.'
The Board ordered the County Offices closed Friday and Saturday July 3rd. and
4th.
The Board appointed D. P. Hay, Jr. Tax Collector, for a term of 1 year, be-
ginning July 1st.
H. D. Carson, Jr. was named Collector for Prepaid taxes in Harnett County for
the year 1953.
L. B. McLean was appointed Veteran Service Officer for a term of 1 year, be-
ginning July 1st. 1953.
Ida P. Hinnant was named Negro Home Agent for a term of 1 year beginning July
1st. 1953.
L. K. Boston was named Negro Farm Anent for a term of 1 year.
The Board appointed Miss Lela B. Huntley, Home Demonstration Agent for a
term of 1 year beginning July 1st. 1953.
Miss Margaret Ray was appointed Asst. Home Demonstration Agent for a term
of 1 year.
Commissioner Lasater moved that the office of the llarnett County Farm Agent
be declared vacant. The motion was lost for t`:e lack of a second.
Commissioner Byrd moved that C. R. Ammons be employed as Harnett County Farm
Agent for a period of 1 year beginning July 1st. 1953. This motion was lost
for the lack of a second.
The Board recessed to reconvene on Wednesday. June 10th., at 8 O'clock P.M.
