Minutes of Board of Equalization and Review for 1953
March 23, 1953
The County Board of Commissioners convened and sat as a County Board of
Equalization and Review for their First meeting of 1953, on Monday March,24,'
1953, at 10:00 in the court house at Lillington, N. C. All members,were present.
The meeting was called to order by the Ckaixman, L. A. Tart Before entering upon
their duties each member of the Board of Equalization and Review took and sub -
scribed to the following oath and-filed the same with the Clerk of the County board
of Commissioners: I , do solemnly swear that I will faithfully
discharge my duties as a member of the Board of Equalization and Review of Harnett
County, North Carolina,' and that I will not allow my actions as a member of said
board to be influenced by a personal or political friendship or obligation.
This the 23rd. day of March, 1953.

All townships on the,North side of Cape Fear River were heard. After the three
or four cases that appeared before the board were given due consideration the
Equalization Board recommended that the County Apprasial board recheck three
values in Grove Township. After these checks had been made Eugene C. Stewart's
value was reduced $4,250.00 to $4,000.00, and Mrs. Rachel Langdon Coats' value
was reduced from $1750. to $1500. The Board recessed for the second and final
meeting to be held on April 13th. 1953.

The County Board of Commissioners convened as a board of Equalization and
Review for their second and final meeting for 1953. All members were present.
All townships on the south side of Cape Fear River were heard. Only one tax-
payer seemed to be dissatisfied with their values placed on their property.
Mr. S. S. Adcock on recommendation by the County Appraisal Board value was re-
duced frpm $8,000, to $7,000. on a new store building on S. Main St. in Lillington
N. C.
By letter dated Jan. 23, 1953 from Norman & Rodman attys. for North Carolina
Pulp Co. claimed a reduction in tax value on land in Johnsonville township in
the amount of $1,289. by reason of the removal of +2,578 cords of wood at 50¢
per cord. This claim was presented to the board and was denied.
All complaints having been heard and reviewed the Board of Equalization and
review adjourned for the year 1953.
