The Board of County Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, May 4th. at
10 o'clock A. M. with L. A. Tart, Chairman, B. P. Ingram, worth Lee Byrd, D. E.
Lasater, Jr. and R. L. Mangum being present. Also present were the County Attorney,
the Auditor and the Clerk to Board.
The report of Robert B. Morgan, Clerk superior Court was approved and ordered
filed.
The report of D. P. nay, Tax Collector, was approved and ordered filed.
The report of Inez Harrington, negister of Deeds, was approved and ordered
filed.
The report of L. B. McLean, Veteran Service Officer, was approved and ordered
filed.
The repert of B. H. Sellers, Electrical Inspector, was approved and placed on
file.
I'he report of L. K. Boston, Negro Farm Agent, was approved and ordered filed.
The report of Ida P. Hinnant, Negro Farm Agent, was approved and ordered filed.
The following road petition was approved and placed on file:
To black surface or black top that certain road in Black River Township, which
runs from N. C. Highway 210 N. C. # 55 beginning at D. W. Denning's farm and runs
to Dorsey Adams farm and is known as the Deal Road, a distance of 9/10 miles.

Upon motion of Commissioner Byrd, seconded by Commissioner Lasater, Jr. the
Board ordered that the county's interest in a five acre tract of land in Averasboro
Township, the same being the tract acquired by the county under tax foreclosure
judgment No. A -1564 and is deed recorded in Book 247, page 349, be sold to George
J. Jernigan for $200.00, subject to the condifflat he list and pay 1953 taxes
on the same. find the Chairman was authorized o/ eed for same, attested by the
Clerk, upon receipt of purchase price.
The Board granted freepedlers license to Jesmond C. Duncan of Wake County,
Cary, N. C., on account of his being a disabled world war Veteran.
The Board of Education appeared before the Board of Commissioners and pre-
sented a petition signed by the citizens of Lillington Public School District,
requesting the Board to call an election to be held in Lillington School District
for the purpose of ascertaining whether there shall be levied a local annual tax in
the amount of 15¢ per $100.00 tax valuation in said District.

HARNETT COUNTY RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the current term of Honorable Howard G. Godwin, Special Superior
Court Judge, will expire at an early date; And,
WHEREAS, The Members of the Harnett County Board of Commissioners are unanimously
of the opinion that the Honorable Howard G. Godwin has since his appointment as a
Superior Court Judge discharged the duties of the high trust committed to him in
a judicious, conscientious and impartial manner in keeping with the highest tradi-
tions of the North Carolina Judiciary and in such a way as to reflect high credit
upon the State and the Judiciary; And,
WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners of Harnett County feels that the Honorable
Howard G. Godwin will continue to exercise the powers and duties of his high
office in a manner that will bring further credit to the Judiciary of our State
and promote the proper administrator of justice,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF HARNETT COUNTY,
THAT HIS EXCELLENCY, WILLIAM B. UMSTEAD, GOVERNOR GF NORTH CAROLINA, be and he
is hereby respectfully and sincerely requested to reappoint Honorable Howard G.
Godwin as a Special Judge of the Superior Court of North Carolina.
