DECEMBER 1st, 1952
The Board of CountyCommissioners met in regular meeting on Monday,
December 1st, 1952, with L. A. Tart, Chairman, vaorth Lee Byrd, B. P.
Ingram, R. L. Pate and H. S. Holloway being present. Also present were the
Clerk to Board and the County attorney.
The report of Elizaceth F. Matthews, Acting Clerk Superior Court, was
approved and ordered filed.
The report of Inez Harrington, register of Deeds, was approved and
ordered filed.
The report of D. P. Hay, Tax Collector, was approved and ordered filed.
The report of L. B. Mc,ean, Veteran Officer, was approved and ordered
filed.
Commissioner H. S. Holloway moved, seconded by Commissioner B. P. Ingram that
Miss.Margaret Ray, of Boone, N. C., be and she is hereby appointed Assistant
Home Demonstration Agent to fill the unexpired term of Miss Virginia Oliver
which vacancy was created ny the death of ,bliss- Oliver.
Bond in the amount of 450OO.UO, with the Fidelity & Casualty Company and
Inez Harrington, Register of Deeds as Principal was approved and ordered
filed with Clerk .3uperior Court.

the Principal shall faithfully perform such duties as may be imposed on him
by law and shall honestly account for all money, that may came into his own
hands in his official capacity durin- the said term, then this obligation shall

Commissioner H. S. Holloway moved, seconded by Commissioner B. P. Ingram, that
the Professional Staff of the Welfare Department -be given an increase. of 610.00,
per month and 14 per mile travel allowance to begin December 1st. 1952.
.(Motion carried)
The Board with the newly elected, members, assembled in the Court room for the
installation of the Elective Officers of Harnett County for the term: of office
beginning First Monday in December.
WHEREAS' this is the final meeting of the Board of Commissioners of Harnett
County as now. constituted; And,
WHEREAS' the YarieDselective and appointed officials of Harnett County have
cooperated -with this board during the past two years.and have extended many
courtesies andkindness'to the members of the board, for which this board de-
sires to express its appreciation;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVEDby the Board of Commissioners of Harnett
County that said board, and the individual members thereof do hereby express
to the several officials and employees of Harnett County their sincere appre-
ciation for the splendid assistance and cooperation given this board during the
past two years.
Upon motion duly made and seconded the foregoing Resolution was unanimously
adopted.

The Board of County Commissioners met at 1 :30 P.M. with the newly elected
members which is composed of L. A. Tart, R. P. Ingram, Worth Lee Byrd, D. E.
Lasater, Jr. and R. L. Mangum present.
L. A. Tart was named Chairman of the Board.
B. P. Ingram was narried Vice Chairman of the Board
Worth Lee Byrd was named Purchasing Agent.
R. L. Mangum and D. E. Lassiter, Jr. were named the Still Committee.
Worth Lee Byrd, R. L. Mangum and D. E. Lassiter, Jr. were named the
Courthouse Committee.
B. P. Ingram moved, seconded by Worth Lee Byrd that John D. Mason be,
and he is hereby appointed Superintendent of County Home. Motion carried.
Upon motion made and duly seconded Herbert D. Carson, Jr., was and he
is hereby named Auditor for a term of one year. Motion carried.
Upon motion made and duly seconded, beries Johnson was and he is hereby
named Tax Supervisor for a term of one year.
Upon motion made and duly seconded W. A. Johnson was and he is hereby
appointed County Attorney for a tern of two years. Motion carried.
Upon motion made and duly seconded L. M. Chaffin was and he is hereby
appointed Vice Recorder to sere at the pleasure of the board.
Commissioner R. b. Mangum was named as the Cornnissioner in charge of the
Farm Census for the year 1953.
The following road petitions were approved:
1. That certain road in barbecue Townsnip which runs from Love Grove
Church to Barbecue Highway and known as the Benhaven Morris Chapel Road , be
hard surfaced for a distance of approximately 1.y miles.
Petition mailed to George S. Coble, Lexington, N. C.
2. To black surface or make all- weather that certain road in everasboro
Township which runs from Dunn -rwin Highway at rdiison Lucas old place to
the old Field Church and graveyard and is known as the Wonder Town road a
distance of 1 mile.
Petition mailed to George S. Coble, Lexington, N. C.
3. To pull up and grade that certain road in Duke Township and is known as
Pope Street in Wonder Town, Last Erwin, N. C., a distance of 350 yards.
Petition filed.
The Board granted Ralph L. Gregory, Angier, U. C. R. 2,Free Peddlers License,
for a period of one year to extend county wide.
The Board granted three and one -half bays for the Christmas Holiday
(Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday n..JI.) beginning Dec. 24th. through
Dec. 29th.)
