HomeMy WebLinkAbout08141962August 14th, 1962 The Board of Commissioners met in a call session on Tuesday. August 14th. at 7:30 P. M., with all members present. Also present were the County Attorney, the Auditor and the Clerk to the Board. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the tax revaluation of the taxable property in Harnett County, Mr. Ottis Harwell, a Tax Supervisor and Appraisal. was present and offered suggestions for this work in the county, Mrs. Ruby Parker, Harnett County Home Demonstration Agent, and Mrs. Merle Swicegood. Southeastern District Home Economics Agent, appeared before the Board andintroduced Miss Etta Dare Carson, of Fairmont, N. C. and recommended that she be named to fill the Assistant Home Demonstration Agents office which will become vacant by the resignation of Mrs. Thelma Upohurch. Commissioner Byrd moved, seconded by Commissioner Cameron, that the resignation of Mrs. Thelma Upchurch, Assistant Hone Demonstration Agent, be accepted as of September 1st., and that Miss Etta Dare Carson be and Bhe is hereby appointed Assistant Honor Demonstration Agent to begin her duties on September 1st, at the same salary as now set up for the Assistant Agent. Motion carried, The Board ordered the County Offices closed for Labor Day. September 3rd. The meeting adjourned and will meet for the regular meeting of the Board on Tuesday. The Bounty Board of Commissioners convened and sat as a County Board of Equalization and Review for their first meeting of 1962 on Monday, March 26, 1962, at 10:00 A.M. in the courthouse at Lillington, N. C. All Comm - issioners and County Attorney were present. The meeting was called to order by Chairman, L. A. Tart. Before entering upon their duties all members of the Board subscribed to the following oath and filed with the Clerk of the Board of County Commissioners, " I —do solemnly swear that I will faithfully discharge my duties as a member of the Board of Equalization and Review of Harnett County, North Carolina and that I will not allow my actions as a member of said Board to be influenced by a personal political friendship . or obligation. All Commissioners were present, The following townships were given the priviledge of appearing before the Equalization Board: Buekhorn, Black River, Grove and Hector's Creek. No one appeared before the Board. The Equalization Board recessed after ample time was given for taxpayers whose values had been disturbed to appear before the Board. May 7. 1962. The County Board of Commissioners convened as a Board of Equalization and Review for their third and final meeting for 1962. All Commissioners were present. The following townships were given the priviledge of appearing before the Equalization Board: Anderson Creek, Barbecue. Johnsonville, Lillington and Upper Little River.
