HomeMy WebLinkAbout10161961530 OCTOBER 16th. 1961 The Board of Commissioners met in. a +call session on Monday, Octobe at 11:00 A. M. With Chairman L. A. Tart, Commissioner Byrd, Commission- Cameron and Commissioner Barefoot present. Commissioner Warren being account of illness. Also present were the County Attorney, the Clerk Board and the County Auditor. r 16th., ner absent on to the Mrs, McAllister of State Extension Department appeared before the Board and presented Mrs. Thelma Upchurch for Assistant Home Demonstration Agent. Commissioner Cameron moved, seconded by Commissioner Barefoot that Mrs. Thelma Upchurch be aid hhe is hereby appointed Assistant Home Demonstration Agent to begin her duties November 1st, at a salary of $2280.00 annually. Motion carried. Carl Lucas appeared before the Board And discussed Civil Defense in Harnett County in the Survival plan. Commissioner Barefoot moved, seconded by Commissioner Byrd that the county proceed with Civil Defense Plans for the county and agreed to match State and or Federal Funds that would be allocated to Harnett County for the purpose of establishing a survival plan for Harnett County. Motion Carried. C, R. Ammons, County Farm Agent, appeared before the Board in the interest of Soil Conservation and legal drainage of Black River and introduced Federal Engineers and State Conservation Engineers who discussed with the land owners the requirements, the possibilities of the drainage on Black River and the, benefits to be derived from the project. The following were named as at- committee: Ralph Hanna, Chairman Myers Tilghman, Vice Chairman Herbert L. Johnson Coy Lucas Carson Gregory This committee to represent the group of land owners in making the survey with Colonel Virgil Lancaster to set up themachinery in carrying out this pro- ject.
