HomeMy WebLinkAbout09051961SEPTEMBER 5th. 1961 The Board of Commissioners met in regular sessionon Tuesday, September 5th. at 10 :00 A. M., with all members present. Also present were the County Attorney, the Auditor and the Clerk to the Board. The Following Reports Were Approved: Register of Deeds Clerk Superior Court Clark Recorders Court Tax Collector Veterans Service Officer Dog Warden Sheriff Electrical Inspector Inez Harrington Elizabeth Matthews Kyle Harrington D P Ray, Jr. L. B. McLean Ken Black and Ray Thomas W. H. Stewart Roy Godwin Mrs. Charles R. Cheek, of Dunn, County Home Demonstration Beautification leader, appeared before the Board and told of the project to beautify the courthouse grounds with the help of John Harris, State Extension Department, and the Home Demonstration Clubs, County Wide, and asked permission of the Board to proceed with their plans. The Board appointed Commissioner Byrd and Commissioner Warren to meet with them when notified at a later date. The Following Road Petitions Were Approved: (1) To hard surface that road in Averasboro Township, which connects 2 roads on County Avenue by the home of Coy Lucas, a distance of 400 yds, (2) To black top that road in Buckhorn Township W. A. Johnson home to J. F. Arnold Old Home place a Commissioner Cameron moved, seconded by Commissi Board of Commissiones authorize the Tax Supervisor motor vehicles of the County as shown by the photos tration card of said owners furnished by the North Motor Vehicles, Raleigh, N. C. Motion carried. The Board of Welfare met with the Board of Commissioners with all members of the Welfare Bca rd present and with Lela Moore Hall, Supertindent, also present. After much discussion the two Boards decided to reconvene on Tuesday, September 19th. at 2:00 P. All taxes beyond 1955 said tax collector to be paid on a basis of 20% on all collections. Also that H. D. Carson, Auditor, be authorized to pay the salary of $100.00 per month. Motion carried. Comthtasioner-.Barefoot moved, seconded by Commissioner Warren, that the resignation of Berles Johnson, Tax Supervisor, be accepted to take effect January 1st. 1962. Motion carried. The Board ordered that the sum of $11.03 taxes paid in Buckhorn Township for the year 1961 by Harold Swede Barbour be refunded on account of error in listing. Commissioner Warren moved, seconded by Commissioner Barefoot, that,Robert B. Morgan be and he is hereby. appointed Attorney for the Welfare Department at a salary of 100.00 per month, upon the recommendation of the Welfare Board. Motion carried John E. Ingraham, Certified Public Accountant, appeared before the Bcard and presented the report of examination of accounts in the various offices for the year ending June 30, 1961.
