HomeMy WebLinkAbout04041961469 APRIL 4th. 1961 The Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Tuesday, April 4th., with Chairman L. A. Tart, Commissioners W. A. Warren, A. C. Barefoot, Worth Lee Byrd and Alex M. Cameron present. Also present were the County Attorney, Clerk to the Board and the County Auditor. The Following reports were approved and filed: Inez Harrington D. P. Ray, Jr. Elizabeth F. Matthews Kyle Harrington L. B. McLean Roy Godwin B H Sellers W H Stewart Register of Deeds Tax Collector Clerk Superior Court Clerk Recorders Court Veterans Service Officer Electrical Inspector Electrical Inspector She riff Bond with Joseph Dorsey Hubbard, Constable in Duke Township was approved and filed with Clerk Superior Court PUBLIC OFFICIAL BOND individual THE AMERICAN INSURANCE GROUP Newark, New Jersey Know all men by these presents, That Joseph Dorsey Hubbard, as Principal, and The American Insurance Company, a corporation organized and existing under the laws of the State of New Jersey, as Surety, are held and firmly bound unto Stateof North Carolina as Obligee, in the penal sum of One Thousand and no /100 ($1,000.00) Dollars, lawful money, at the United States of America, for the payment of which, well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves, out heirs, executors, administrators, successors and assigns, jointly and severally, firmly by these presents. Commissioner Byrd moved, seconded by Commissioner Warren, that the Clerk of Superior Court be authorized to buy metal docket files for the Cbrks office at a cost of approximately $1290.00 Motion carried. Commissioner Warren moved, seconded by Commissioner Byrd, that the Commissioners request Representative Carson Gregory to have passed in the Legislature bills to give the Commissioners the authority to hire 2 additional Rural Policemen for Harnett County. Motion carried, The following Road Petitions were approved and ordered forwarded to State Highway Commission (1) To add, to -the State.Maintained Secondary Road System that street' known as South Sixth Street in Erwin, N C., a distance of 1/5 mile. The Board appointed Commissioner Worth Lee Byrd to serve on the Harnett County Confederate Centennial Committee. Commissioner Byrd moved, seconded by Commissioner Warren that Harnett County participate in the Surplus Food Program as soon as plans can b e completed. Motion carried. Commissioner Byrd moved, seconded by Commissioner Warren that following resolution be adopted Be it Resolved by the Board of Commissioners of Harnett County: Section 14 That in order to carry out the Surplus Food Program -of the Federal Government for Harnett County from April 4, 1961, to date of the adoption of the 1961 -62 Budget Resolution, appropriations in the amount of 65,100.00, are hereby made for the - purpose of paying salaries and other necessary expenses of said program. This resolution shall cease to be effective from and after the adoption of the 1961 -62 Budget Resolution, and all expenditures- made in accordance with this resolution shall be chargeable to appropriations made in the 1961 -62 Budget Resolution. Adopted this the 4th day of April, 1961. Motion carried. L, A: Tart, Chairman Board of County Commissioners RESOLUTION ENLISTING IN NORTH CAROLINA LOCAL GOVERNMENTAL EMPLOYEES! RETIREMENT SYSTEM WHEREAS, the 1945 General Assembly amended the North Carolina Local' Governmental .Employees' Retirement System so as to make the benefits of said System available to all counties., cities, and towns, and WHEREAS, the governing body of this Unit realizes the necessity of providing its employees with the security and protection provided by a sound retirement plan., and WHEREAS, Article 3 of Chapter 128 of theGeneral Statutes of North'Carolina provides that any governmental unit desiring to-enroll its employees in said System shall make application to the Board of Trustees of the North Carolina Local Governmental Employees' Retirement System and shall by resolution elect to par- ticipate in said System, Now, Therefore, be it resolved by the Harre tt County Commissioners in regular session, 1. That the Harnett County hereby elects to participate its employees in the North Carolina Local Governmental Employees' Retirement System, 2. That the Harnett County hereby agrees to comply with all provisions of the North Carolina Local Governmental Employees' Retirement System as defined in Article 3, Chapter 128 of the General Statutes of North Carolina as amended by the 1945 General Assembly. 3. That the Harnett County is hereby ordered and directed to make application to the Board of Trustees of the North Carolina Local Governmental Employees' Retirement System for enrollment of this Unit and its employees in said System. Upon motion of Commissioner Alex M. Cameron and seconded by Commissioner A. C. Barefoot the above resolution was.introducted for passage. The following number voted in -the affirmative: 5.
