THE HARNETT COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS in meeting assembled on Monday
February 5th, 1961, adopted the following resolution:
WHEREAS, State Highway # 210, between the town of Lillington, North
Carolina, and SpringLake, North Carolina, thence on into Ft. Bragg, North
Carolina, is of such a hazardous nature that the people living along said
highway are continuously filing complaints about same, and,
WHEREAS, there have been approximately twenty -five or thirty deaths on this
stretch of highway since the year 1947, due to the numerous hills and short
sight distances that exist along said highway, and,
WHEREAS, conditions which now exist and have for many years are so hazardous
that a committee has been appointed and named Mr. Bobby Kennedy as Chairman to
contact the Highway Commission in an effort to get the existing conditthon
corrected, and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Bobby Kennedy has been in contact with Mr. J. W. Spruill,
Division Engineer, and has been advised by Mr. Spruill }hhat in looking over the
fifteen year report he could find no reference to any improvement on North
Carolina Highway # 210 as a previous study indicated this section' was adequate
for the projected traffic up to the year 1975, and,
WHEREAS, traffic has been so heavy over this particular stretch of highway
due to the personnel of Ft. Bragg as well as the civilian employees and others
using the same with particular reference to Ft. Bragg personnel using the same to
go North on week ends and other times that one's life is continuously in danger
when traveling over this stretch of highway, especially during the hours of sun-
set to dawn, due to the many hills and short sight distances that prevail along
said highway,
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Harnett County Board of Commissioners
earnestly request and hereby petition the said Highway Commission to make an
immediate re -study of this section of the road in view of the many deaths that
have occurred thereon in an effort to correct the present existing conditions and
make the said highway safe for the traveling public.
Done at Lillington; North Carolina, this the 5th. day of February, 1961.
