HomeMy WebLinkAbout11071960NOVEMBER 7th. 1960 The. Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Monday November 7th. at 10:00 A. M., with the following members present, L. A. Tart, Chairman, Com/ Worth Lee Byrd, Com. W. A. Warren and Com. Alex Cameron, Com. Joe.Currin was absent. Also present were the County Attorney and the Auditor. The County. Attorney served as Clerk to Board in the absence of Inez Harrington The. Following Reports W. H. Stewart Elizabeth Matthews D P. Ray Kyle Harrington Inez Harrington Ray Thomas L B. McLean Roy Godwin Were Approved: Sheriff Clerk Superior Court Tax Collector Clerk Recorders Court Register of Deeds Dog Warden Veterans Service Officer County Electrical :Inspector Mrs. W. E. Salmon appeared before the Board to file a claim for claimed.to have sustained by falling and spraining her ankle at sid courthouse, claiming her fall was due to the step. HMrs. Salmon was her bill from Dr. Williford and the Board in turn would submit same Contractors to find if they were covered under their Insurance Pol however, denied any liability on the -part of Harnett County.. injuries she e entrance to advised to get to the General icy. The Board, Motion by Commissioner Byrd seconded by Commissioner Cameron that the Ladies Auxiliary be permitted to serve sandwiches and coffee at the courthoise on November 8th. 1960, Election Day. It being understood that the place used by the ,ladles auxiliary must be at least 50 feet from the actual polling plane. Motion carried. Mr. Rescue Rescue by the James E. Glover of Erwin appeared before Squad seeking a donation to help pay for Squad which opperates county wide. This Board but no definite action to be taken the Board on behalf of the Erwin part of the equipment used by the matter was given serious consideratio at this time. Upon motion by Commissioner Cameron andseoonded by Commissioner Byrd that a tax refund on lot in town of Dunn be given to Mrs. Mamie Byrd Crumpler 501 S. Orange Avenue, Dunn N. C. in the amount of $20.18 on account of error in taxes paid for the year 1958 and 1959. Motion carried. Commissioners Byrd and Cameron also made a motion that tax in the amount of $12.18 be refunded to Mrs. Sadie Baer, Dunn, N C. on account of error in listing. Miss Hall appeared. before the Board and asked that a man be placed on a twenty four hour 'call with the Welfare Department at a salary of $20,'00 per month. On motion of Commissioner Cameron that such an employee be provided seconded by Commissione Byrd the Board voted unanimously in favor of said motion. Mr. R. B. Butler of the R., B. Butler Auction Company of Warrenton, N. C. together with Mr. Herbert L. Johnson of Coats, N. C. appeared before the Board and submitted a propositionrto sell the Cornelius Harnett Boarding Home at auction, It was upon motion of Chairman Warren and seconded by Commissioner Byrd and Commissioner Cameron be ordered a contract to sell said property on the following basis: 5% of sale price if the sale is confirmed and zhn the- ,event said sale should not be confirmed, then and in that event, the Board of Commissioners agree to pay the said R, B. Butler Auction Company and'Herberat L. Johnson jointly the sum of $600.00 for their efforts in making the said sale. Motion carried. Mr. J. D. Mason appeared before the Board and agreed that his lease for the Cornelius Harnett Boarding Home property may be cancelled at the pleasure of the Board in order for the Board to effect a sale of the said property. An agreement was drawn and signed between both parties setting out other conditions a copy of which is hereby attached. A motion was made by Commissioner Warren seconded by Commissioner Cameron that the county offioes be closed for Thanksgiving Day November 24th. Motion carried. (Over) 425 NORTH CAROLli A HARNETT COUNTY This agreement made between the Harnett Cm J. D. Mason of Harnett WITNESSETH and entered into this the 7th. day of November 1960 by and my Board of Commissioners parties of the first part and County party of the second part; THAT WHEREAS the Harnett County Board of Commissioners has heretofore leased to J. D. Mason, party of the second part certain County Property formerly known as the old Harnett County Home for a period oi years; and, WHEREAS said lease has approximately twelve (12) more months to run; and, WHEREAS the said party of the firstpart is negotiating a sale of the said property, but is handicapped in so doing by reason of said lease; and, WHEREAS, Mr. J. D. Mason, party of the second part has agreed for the Board of Commissioners to cancel his lease at their pleasure. In the event of a sale of said property is made, then and in that event, the said party of the second part shall have a period of 90 days in which to vacate said premises. NOW THEREFORE, it is mutually agreed between the parties hereto that the above lease may be cancelled at the pleasure of the Harnett County Board of Commissioners.
