SEPTEMBER ‘6th. 1960
The Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Tuesday •September, 6th.
at 10:00 A. M., with all members present except Commissioner.Joe•Currin, who was
absent. Also present were the County Attorney, the Auditor and the Clerk to the
Board. ,

• Mr. Robert C. Bryan, Attorney of Dunn, N • C. came before the Board requesting
that the Board issue its voucher for the Attorney fees allowed by the court in the
case of State VS Leroy Jones; also, to pay for memographing the record in the
Supreme Court. Upon motion of Commissioner Byrd ard seconded by Commissioner
Cameron it was unanimously passed and the auditor directed to pay the fee of
$900.00, and write the Clerk of the Supreme Court that the county would assume
liability for theprinting of the record.
The Board ordered that the statement of Wilda t Hauer, Court Reporter for the
transcript of the case of the State VS Leroy Jones be paid by the county.
Motion carried.
It was moved by Commissioner Cameron and seconded by Commissioner Byrd,
that this Board approve the proposition of a small flood controll dam on Lower
Little River at Linden ani authorized the County Attorney to write a letter or
:approval Off-this Board and send the same to the proper authority for action.
The Board aPproved the following road petitions:
(1) To sand clay that road in Netlls Creek Township.which is located
2' miles N. We'of Angier at South extension of Atkins road at intersection
of Angier Chalybeate Springs road.

(2) To black top that road in Duke Twp which runs from Highway # 1815
(Dunn-Erwin Road) t(00.1d. Dunn-Erwin Road known as County Avenue a distance of
a- mile

John E. Ingraham, Public Accountant, appeared before the Board and presented
t} report of the Audit of the County Offices for year ending June 30, 1960.
A motion was made and duly passed that an additional fees of $75.00 be paid
toA John E. Ingraham for adjusting and closing oet-the 1959 audit.

The Board approved a loan of $300.00 to C. R. Ammons, County Agent, for the
expense of constructing a booth at the State Fair for the Harnett County Ex-
hibits. The money to be refunded to the County after the State Fair is ended in
October.
Motion was made by Commissioner Cameron, seconded by Commissioner Warren,
to approve a loan of $1,000.00 from the Special- Courthoisse Fund to the
A. P. T. D. Fund on August 26, 1960 „due to a deficit in said A. P. T. D. Fund.

The Board authorized L. A. Tart, Chairman, to appoint a_eommittee as follows:
Malcolm Fowler, Chairman, Lillington, N. C.
Melvin Turlington, Lillington, N. C.
Mrs. I. F. hicks, Dunn, N. C.
to serve on the North Carolina Confederate Centennial Commission in beginning e
four year commemoration of the One hundredths Anniversary of the war between the
states. This committee tv serve with other county committees and assist in helping
to make this ai outstanding endeavor in the history of the State.

During the selection of the Jury for the trial of this action the jurors
regularly drawn for this court were exhausted after the plaintiff had used five
peremptory challenges and the defendant had used 4 peremtory challenges.
It now appearing to the Court that addit&nnal jurors should be drawn for
service at this term of Court, it is therefore ordered that the Register of Deeds
of Harnett County immediately bring into open court the Jury -boxes of Harnett County
snd a child under the age of ten shall draw from Box # 1 the names of ten (10)
additional jurors who shall be required to report on 'Thursday morning September
22, 1960, at 9 o'clock at the Courthouse in Lillington to be examined as to
whether or not they shall serve on the above- entitled case, and the Sheriff of
Harnett County -is directed to immediately summons the jurors so drawn at this
court at the time above set out and make due return of this writ.
